  1. That's all you had to say. Everyone here knows your MO. With you Slick, we just wait for the other shoe to drop.
  2. You got us slick. The jig is up everybody, might as well fess.
  3. What an odd question from the other side of the state.
  4. Oh yes, Hazard resting on that 2011 championship. If dusting off the history books, you realize that comes a year after Hazard became an afterthought by halftime in 2010. Just foolin with ya 30dad.
  5. I'm still trying to wipe my memory banks of the last time these two teams played. U-G-L-Y! I could see this game going either way, and typically special teams... penalties... and turnovers play big roles in close, early season games. All things being equal, I've got the feeling special teams for Mayfield should win them field position and perhaps a field goal or two, which may be just enough to get them over the hump. 34 to 28 Mayfield.
  6. 7 Russellville 5 Mayfield 3 South Warren 2 Caldwell Co. 1 Paducah Tilghman TB Caldwell Co.
  7. Another great thing about Jackson was that he compensated for the mistakes of others. Some one misses a tackle on defense, JJ would be there to clean it up. A block isn't picked up on offense, JJ was strong enough to take that tackler and a few others with him down the field. Everyone on this Mayfield team will have to do their part to be as successful as in recent years. With that being said, other than the QB... DL/OL and say receivers, a scrimmage gives you the opportunity to see who can fit best at any given position. I suspect it will be a work in progress over the first one-third of the season, plugging in players to different spots until the staff finds the right combination. Biggest concerns I had from Friday for me came from the corner positions... let's just say they had great position if someone was posting up under the basket looking for an easy lay-up... in football, however, that gets you pass interference. The running game... just not the explosiveness, or really the speed Mayfield is usually accustomed to. I'm guessing the young freshman will get his fair share of playing time in the backfield. I'm not going to be too tough on the linebackers, we've been spoiled to say the least. To give up just 6 pts in the varsity portion of the scrimmage, against a run heavy Milan team, is certainly respectable. While others have their own opinion, I still see the success to Mayfield this year will be a higher pass to run ratio. Handing the ball off when your senior quarterback has the smarts and the arm to torch high school defenses, I would say throw first and ask questions later.
  8. I am hearing the ESPN slate is set, and while there was some interest... they ultimately passed. The only way there would be an ESPN association with this game if it becomes an ESPN 3, internet game. The more likely scenario is a regional FOX connection, which is a mess in itself as part of Kentucky gets Fox Ohio and other portions receive Fox South or even Sports South.
  9. Anything known about the PT game? I've heard it could be moved to Saturday... I've heard it could be at Murray St.... and I've also heard a regional sports network could pick up. Anyone else know or have heard these things?
  10. While Joey passed away just as the weekend was complete, his weekend started with what he loved... covering football at the Kentucky / Illinois all star game this past Friday night. Here is his last story... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsung players, defense spark West Kentucky rout by By Joey Fosko jfosko@paducahsun.com Jun 15, 2013 CARBONDALE, Ill. — The West Kentucky All-Stars turned in a dominating performance, some of the highlights coming from players that probably won’t be playing football on Saturdays for the next four seasons. Marshall County linebacker Casey White, who had two pass deflections that ended up as interceptions (one of them was returned for a touchdown), earned defensive Most Valuable Player honors as West Kentucky thumped its counterparts from Southern Illinois 42-20 on Friday night at Saluki Stadium in the annual matchup of high school stars from both sides of the Ohio River. White, who played in just three games for the Marshals last season because of various knee injuries, is forgoing a shot at college football to enter the pipefitters’ union, so he went out with a bang in his final game as a football player. White broke up a middle screen early in the second quarter, knocking the receiver out of the play with the ball appearing to deflect off his shoulder into the hands of Trigg County defensive tackle John McGee. McGee gladly made the 5-yard trot to the end zone for a score that extended the West Kentucky lead to 21-6. “I didn’t even know if the ball hit me or not,” White said. “I was just putting the hit on the running back, and I looked up and heard everybody going crazy and my man in the end zone with the ball.” White also tipped a pass that ended up as a pick for Murray linebacker Jaleel Lee, the second of the West Kentucky defense’s three interceptions. Through three quarters, West Kentucky had held the host squad to three first downs and 76 total yards while bolting to a 35-6 lead. Some of the lead cast of characters on the defense were expected — Mayfield linebackers Jonathan Jackson and Dondre Jackson, among others, turned in fine performances. Then there was Lone Oak defensive end Zach Perry, who had a sack and a tackle loss in Southern Illinois’ second series before playing sparingly in the final three quarters because of an arm injury. Perry has lost 25 pounds since the end of football season, slimming down from 240 to 215. Some of the weight was shed during basketball season, and Perry has gained some quickness out of the exchange. That led Lone Oak teammate Jason Smith, an offensive lineman heading to Eastern Kentucky, to remark that Perry “needs to play somewhere.” “I’m not as strong as I was, but I feel a lot quicker,” said Perry, who long ago turned down some interest from small colleges with the intention of attending Murray State as a non-student-athlete. “I haven’t even looked into walking on or anything, but I’m kind of thinking about it now.” The offensive MVP was Christian County tailback Kory Mosley, who had 113 yards on 15 carries and was one of six West Kentucky players to score a touchdown. Graves County’s Zach Katzman had 75 yards on eight carries and drew first blood with a 9-yard run midway through the first period. And Calloway County quarterback Tyler Greer sparked the offense in the first half, setting up Katzman’s touchdown with a 26-yard scramble and connecting with Christian County’s Jeff Alexander on a 40-yard strike on the first play of the second quarter. Greer had a walk-on offer from Murray State and was also considered a college prospect on the baseball diamond as one of the area’s best shortstops. But his immediate plans are to attend Kentucky. W. 11. Guess Mayfield will have to go back to winning championships the way they used to, you know, before Jackson. The big worry coming into this season was what kind of line play Mayfield would get, I would say they passed with flying colors. Suspect that Mayfield would rely a little more on the pass next year, but with most of the guys in the trenches returning expect Jake Guhy's numbers to look like a video game.
  12. “If they run 50 plays, they want to get Jackson involved in 35,” McPeek said. “That’s the guy you want to know where he is at all times. I told our guys if he goes to Wendy’s, you better know what he orders.” Quote of the week from Fairview's head coach. I bet Jonathan could have a Frosty in one hand and the football in the other and still flatten his opponent, many of which will be hanging on from behind just trying to slow him down. Despite Fairview wanting to be the more physical team on the field, I expect the Eagles to be a step or 2 slower in the second half and Mayfield will pull away. 42-21 Mayfield
  13. Kudos on the Beechwood burgers. They were delicious. Mayfield was it's own worst enemy in the 1st half with the dropped passes. Really poor pass defense by the Tigers... coverage was way too loose. Speed may have contributed to the big cushion. If not backed up so often in the 1st 2 quarters, Cards could have thrown more often. New blood in Bowling Green this year.
  14. Nussbaum left, Nussbaum right, Nussbaum up the gut. Once that doesn't work, I'm guessing we'll see the "special" Mayfield package that's been in the works for the last 3+ months since the scouting started. Mayfield just needs to come out a play hard from the 1st snap and everything will take care of itself. Let this game stay close into the 4th quarter and anything can and probably will happen. This is not an elite Tiger team, but there should be plenty of excitement next summer in Ft. Mitchell heading into the the 2013 campaign. This year belongs to Jackson and company, his record setting Mayfield career will end where it should, in Bowling Green for a 4th and final time. 28-14 Mayfield
  15. This year's Tiger is just a cub. Still can't leave its momma yet. :jump:
  16. I think the win over OCath last week may start the ball rolling to Bowling Green for Murray. 24 to 20 win this week, followed by a road victory at Glasgow next week.
  17. As always, I'm worried about Mayfield giving up a cheap score or two on the long ball. However, after watching Jonathan Jackson simply steamrolling HC and taking the team on his back (even more so than usual) I don't think Mayfield will be seriously theatened... at least in the end. Hoping Mayfield comes out with a couple of early scores and gets a running clock going and maybe get the JV in for a few minutes toward the end. 49-17 Mayfield.
  18. I was watching the live stream from the Mayfield game of these two. It was 6 turnovers by my count, 3 picks / 3 fumbles. At least one of the fumbles and one of the interceptions set up 2 KCD short scoring drives.
  19. Guess 3rd on that list is pretty good, considering no one will ever catch the top two. Would also like some insight from the one pollster who voted for Holy Cross to win.
  20. Who says they haven't seen Frankfort? Not one person compiles these playoff previews. I've seen Frankfort, and unless the second coming of Jared Lorenzen doesn't burn Mayfield deep on repeated occasions, then Mayfield has an excellent chance of winning. Looking at the success Danville was having on the ground, even when Frankfort knew the Ad's had no passing game last week, I would think Mayfield's running game would put up some big numbers. Would love a shorter trip to Frankfort this season. By the way... Mayfield fans have heard this "more team speed or as much team speed as Mayfield" in the playoffs the last several years, and we're still waiting to see it.
  21. Rogers comes west again, but no more wing T at Graves.
