Round #2!

These are district foes who played for the district title back 4 weeks ago. At the time both were undefeated and ranked #1(Mayfield) and #2. Mayfield came away with a 42-21 win in a game that saw Russellville jump out to a early 14-0 lead on the Cardinals before Mayfield regrouped and took control. This game will see Mayfield possibly without the services of their main offensive weapon at reciever and return man, Deion Jackson who has missed the last 2 weeks with a injury. The time table for Jackson's return is uncertain and week to week awaiting a doctors clearance. Russellville lost the following week to a very good South Warren squad and will head back to Mayfield with a 10-2 mark.

The first meeting was one that saw Russellville introduce some new offensive wrinkles that initally casused the Cardinals defense major problems but after some on the fly coaching adjustments the Cards buckled down and other than a 80 yard TD run held the Panthers high powered offense in check. Russellville Head Coach Myers said he wants another shot and felt turnovers (5) and fatigue werefactors in the loss. Russellville gained 372 yards on the night but 267 of those came in the first half. For Mayfield, turnovers were also a issue, both teams played the two weaker Fultons prior to the game and both had a open week. Mayfield will need the deep recieving core to step up if Jackson is not cleared and will have to prepare for the game under the assumption that he will still not be back yet. In his absence the Cards will look for a group effort from the recieving corps that still has 5 guys that see significant minutes and have multiple catches. For Russellville there has to be concern over the injury Friday to Senior star running back Demarcus Hampton who has rushed for 1,200 yards on the season and scored 16 touchdowns. Hampton is rumored to have suffered a high ankle sprain. Both teams will want to cutdown on the turnovers and Russellville will likely need to try and figure out a way to add a few more wrinkles to their offense in the hopes of not going stagnet like they did in the second half of the first meeting with the Cardinals. Like the first matchup, this one should be a good one.

Perhaps tight early but Mayfield will pour it on once again. Mayfield by 3 TD's or more.

Still over rating Russellville I see. :)

I am more along the lines of Rookie, Russ just plain out throws the kitchen sink at us everytime we play and Friday will be no different. I fear this team more than anyother in 1A but I feel if we don't make massive mistakes we win

VOR, I hope your right and I'm wrong.

Mayfield 41-20.

You see them in person so maybe there is something that causes you to feel that way. You probably fear Russellville like I fear Frankfort. They are good teams with good athletes and you know you have to play well to beat them. But at the end of the day, it always seems to turn out the same way. I look at the scores and I see a team that can't stay within 3 TD's of Mayfield. I look at Russellville's opponents and scores and there is nothing there that tells me they can beat Mayfield. I think, just like me with Frankfort, you have a lot of respect for a good team and that is why you feel the way you do.

Still underrating them I see. As a Mayfield fan, just hoping to get out of this week with a W, be it 1 point or 30, just survive and advance and I'll be happy. Outside of Caldwell and McCracken, I think Russellville may be the next best team Mayfield's played this year. Tilghman and them are close. I think they're better than Murray and Graves.

The toughest game Mayfield will have the rest of the way. IMO

If Mayfield wins the title, Mayfield will win this one by a bigger margin than their next two.

Really? Why is Russellville getting so much love elsewhere? I really don't know much about them. I value your opinion, VOR.........do tell.

The Mayfield guys have done a good job hyping the team on their schedule they see as their biggest regional threat. I see Russellville in a somehwat similar light as Johnson Central. Impressive record and wins but the schedule leaves a little to be desired. Just like Johnson Central, they are one heck of a team but not the team that they have been hyped to be. In addition, look at the scores of their games versus Mayfield the past couple years. Yes, I know those games may have been close for a while but in the final scores Russellville hasn't been within 3 TD's of Mayfield, including earlier this year. Russellville is very good. They aren't any better than the other 1A teams left in the playoffs that are hoping to beat Mayfield.
