I'm for Russellville but Mayfield is too good and the fact that Mayfield runs the Spread offense which allows them to score quickly and RVK runs the Veer which means they want a "grind it out" game does not bode well for RVK in this one IMO.

The Mayfield guys have done a good job hyping the team on their schedule they see as their biggest regional threat. I see Russellville in a somehwat similar light as Johnson Central. Impressive record and wins but the schedule leaves a little to be desired. Just like Johnson Central, they are one heck of a team but not the team that they have been hyped to be. In addition, look at the scores of their games versus Mayfield the past couple years. Yes, I know those games may have been close for a while but in the final scores Russellville hasn't been within 3 TD's of Mayfield, including earlier this year. Russellville is very good. They aren't any better than the other 1A teams left in the playoffs that are hoping to beat Mayfield.

I'm tired of hearing all this scheduling crap. Whether its Trinity or Mayfield, you guys are consistent powerhouses in your class, you are expected to be an excellent team each and every year. Other teams do not have this luxury. I think you fail to understand this. Russellville has great teams every now and then, but they are not a consistent 1A powerhouse. What good would Russellville get from scheduling Warren Central or Bowling Green every single year? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! 10 win seasons are not guaranteed at Russellville like they are at Mayfield, so stop beating the :deadhorse:

^ your comments have little validation. There are variables to consider such as, they haven't beaten us lately thus they are hungry, they ALLWAYS play us tuff, head coach is former mayfield assistant who would love to beat his old school, mayfields only break away threat is out with an illness. My biggest fear is has mayfield already peaked? And yes 10 victory seasons are expected here but this is the weakest mayfield team they have had for about 5 years now, especially defensively.

Mayfield finally started to get in the backfield in the 2nd half of the 1st game between these two and began to blow up the Panthers play calling soon after the ball was snapped. Unless Russellivlle has something new going on in the playbook, and they very well might, I would think the Cardinals will take this rematch. Expecting R'ville to add a few wrinkles, but to basically stay with what got them this far.

What I need from Mayfield is a motivated start, and not wait until halftime to shift into the next gear. The playoffs are not the time when you let an above average team stick around into the 3rd and 4th quarters. Hoping the Cardinals remember how they played in the 1st half of this game a few weeks ago, not just what the scoreboard said at the end. If they do, it will be fun to watch as a Cardinal fan.

Mayfield 28

Russellville 12

I completely understand what you are saying. Perhaps it would not be good for Russellville to schedule like Mayfield. And Russellville did schedule up a little this year. However, when I am evaluating teams and what to expect in a playoff game, you better believe I am looking at both teams' strength of schedule and how they preformed against that schedule. It isn't perfect by any stretch but at least 85% of the time the team that played well versus a stronger schedue is going to get the win. Like it or not, record plus strength of schedule at this point in the season will tell you how good a team is.

Big Black Jack, that's not a Mayfield fan talikng about the schedules. I think Rsv has played a very solid schedule for a 1A team. Ft Campbell, S.Warren, Trigg Co are 3 quality non district games. I don't think that schedule is as strong as Mayfields, Beechwoods, Pikevilles or Hazards, but, would be right up there with any other 1a school and plenty good to challenge you and prepare you for the playoffs.

Mayfield was not used to seeing an offense like Russellville's the last time they played. This time they should be more prepared for what face's them this go around. Without Dion we are missing a key piece but I believe Mayfield can overcome this part. Mayfield needs to get off to a solid start and make Russellville play from behind.

I understand you point, and I think that's why they put South Warren on the schedule. Only other team relatively close that I feel would be good for RVK to play is Glasgow, maybe even Hopkinsville.

With that said, I'll go 35-14 Mayfield.

Interesting switch, If not mistaken, you picked Russ in the game poll the first meeting 4 weeks ago.

Despite what any of you non Mf fans think, I worry more about Russ because they have played us better than anyone else has in class A the past 2 seasons. I do feel better about this game than I did the first, espically after reading in the paper about their 264 pound back having a high ankle sprank

All right, TP, I let it go the first time you made that comment but not a second time. Two seasons ago Beechwood was an incomplete 19 yard pass away from beating Mayfield. Last season Russellville didn't even make it back to the regional finals game against you while Beechwood led most of the first half and was tied with Mayfield at halftime.

Trust me I want RVK to win, but I think they will again run out of gas in the end. I find it more interesting that YOU find it interesting I have switched my picks since this game was played 3-4 weeks ago and Mayfield pulled away in the second half. Did you really think I would pick RVK again? I touch the stove once and then learn my lesson.

In 2012 Russ held us to our lowest point total of the season in a 27-7 Cards win that was a fight.

In 2012 Mf beat Bw 35-14. But that Bw game we both new Mf missed its chances in the first half. I think Bw might have been better but I never felt much worry about getting beat at Bw. Russ on the other hand seemed like they might beat us as they dominated us for awhile. Maybe its becasue their coach is a former Mayfield coach and I have a fear he will figure us out. IDK they just seem like they could beat us and I have never felt real worried about BW winning before or durning our games other than the 2011 game that was a toss up but one I figured we would win. Again this year they got after us and had me concerned

If Mayfield wins the title, Mayfield will win this one by a bigger margin than their next two.

I think Rsville will keep it close, but, Mayfield pulls it out by 10-14 pts.. I can see Frankfort's athletes matching up well with Mayfield and keeping it close, too, in the following round.

Who has more athletes - Frankfort or Beechwood?
