Newport should be strong, they have looked good at a lot of the summer activities. Somewhat suprised that Villa Madonna Senior Blake Bryan didn't make the list of players, not saying that Bryan is better than most on that list but he is a nice player.

When you are a school like Beechwood when you are up you can be really up and when you are down you can be really down. One thin class of athletes can really hurt your program simply based on the number of boys in the school. Beechwood is most certainly down by Beechwood standards. Highlands has one of their best teams in recent memory. Highlands will name the score.

Not a real shocker to me. A strong Dixie team and a rebuilding Tigers team. Beechwood should handle single A but will struggle with the bigger schools this year.

2nd team scores on 1st team is not running it up. Stop them. What do you expect. If they kneel it every play you would be arguing that they are disrespecting your team. Just a bad matchup, they happen. Learn from it and move on.

I could think of a number of reasons!

I believe that a lot of their younger kids play up. Plus their class sizes are pretty small. We are talking about an "A" school.

Any word on who will be coaching with Flynn at Highlands? JV? Frosh?

I completely agree with you. I would say the way that you evaluated a high school coach would be completely different than a college or pro coach.

Part of being a coach is how you handle your team as well. The boys at Holmes deal with more off of the floor than most kids in NKY. Henley and his staff have done a fantastic job of keeping those boys focused, which can be difficult to do. Being a great coach sometimes goes beyond x's and o's in my opinion. Especially at this level. I left Grant Brannen off of my intial list and I agree, he really should be included with the up and comers. His teams have been very well coached, he has gotten every ounce of talent out of the kids on his team.

My top 5 varsity would be: Dave Faust David Henley Mike Listerman Jim Hicks Rick Shumate

Nathan will have great things in his future, he is a tremendous athlete both as a Baseball and Basketball player. He could easily walk on to their Basketball team at Transy as well. Congrats to a great young man.

Any word on what happened to their previous freshman coach?

Yes Buettel, Snyder, Smith, and Romes to Graduation!

Looks like the Tigers weakness at this point will be in the front court, losing Smith and especially Snyder will hurt. Young kids will need to step up for Beechwood if they hope to keep this momentum going.

Dayton has a tough draw but is hosting so that should help them on their home court. Holy Cross and NCC in the second round could be interesting. I think NCC has the best shot of coming out of the All "A" again this year. But it is only May so it is tough to tell.

Long standing tradition, I am kind of shocked that it lasted this long. These are the little slices of community that we are losing. But in light of the accident you can't be shocked that they decided to end it. Probably killed their insurance rates.
