Cannon Silenced at Highlands

Featured Replies

Glad to see this, I have been to many fields with cannons, but the one at Highlands is too close to the field and a safety risk.

I think that we all knew that this was coming. Glad to see that no one was seriously injured.

Hopefully this has been what has been pushing Highlands over the top for the last 50 or so years, and CovCath can take its rightful place at the top of NKY football! :D

I think we all realize that it ends a tradition but the boys have the dedication, leadership and the coaching that truly makes the program what it is. The downside had it happened a few years back; I would not had to have replace those single pane 1920 windows in my home that rattled with each blast from the cannon up the road. For Mr. CCH I have a nice picture of last year scoreboard as a screensaver perhaps that can be shown on our big screen TV prior to the game. Now, before I am warned about the rules, I want you to know it looks like your program is back on track. The boys work hard and still consider it a big time rival. I have a lot of respect for the CCH program that is a big motivating factor and keeps are boys on task.

Tis a darned shame !!

I could see retiring the old cannon, but what about getiing a smaller and saver cannon to carry on the tradition.

Long standing tradition, I am kind of shocked that it lasted this long. These are the little slices of community that we are losing. But in light of the accident you can't be shocked that they decided to end it. Probably killed their insurance rates.

Knowing a thing or two about insurance that much is given. I can tell you that moving forward it was a given that the cannon has to be removed or the insurance would be in the excess/surplus market. The verbage in the article hints that way. Needless to say the true reason is public safety. I am certain everybody is an agreement that we surely would not want any other accidents or mishaps to take place. Rest in Peace Cannon but Highlands tradition will never die, we don't rebuild we reload.

Sad to see it go, but the right decision.

Stinks to see it go, but it is what it is. Can't argue with the decision.

We scored TD's BEFORE the cannon went off! No chance!:clap:

I hated the cannon as an opponent but I hate to see part of the tradition of HHS going away. With that being said, I understand the move but like JA stated above, David Cecil will be a bit different on Friday nights.
