Conner also had a stud at Middle Linebacker and at Nose, they were much more physical than Conner freshmen teams of the past. Beechwood freshmen looked really good at times and a little sloppy at others, but as everyone has stated that's what scrimmages are for....

Their Middle School team won the medium school championship last year, they had a lot of nice players on that team. Good foundation for WV moving forward.

Maybe I'm plain crazy, but I think the Juggs can compete with Beechwood this year, not saying they will beat the Tigers, but I think the game is going to be very close. Just sayin

I don't know what Russellville has coming back, but I would venture to say they will be a thorn in Beechwoods side. They have a solid program.

Different kid than his brother, not taking anything away from his older brother, but he did not play with the same passion as Justin. The rumor on the street is that Western really likes the kid, but will have to wait and see.

Great point, I coached at the senior level of NKYFL for a number of years and then switched to MS, people at the NKYFL program I coached at were appalled at the lack of live hitting we did on a regular basis. We did have some live drills, but footwork and fundamentals were first and foremost in our teaching...live drills, or inter squad scrimmages only accounted for about 5% of our practice time. Folks weren't too appalled after we started winning. As you said you don't have to beat the kids down to be a physically dominant team.

I agree with what you say, however Coach Brossart passed his test IMO when he cleaned up the mess typhoon Pike left at Dixie. He has emerged as one of the top coaches in NKY IMO.

Everything I have read over the years tells you that kids in that age category should not be doing maximum effort lifting, most are still in their growth phase, growth plates could be damaged or compromised. Seems a little ridiculous to have 13 year old kids out their doing max effort. Just my opinion.

I would agree 100%, the facilities at the Kenton County Schools are as good or better than anything any school in NKY can put forth, and I for one am glad to see Scott become a much better football program. To get back on the original thread, the kids are what determine how competitive the game or games will be. This past year Beechwood was senior laden with an abundance of experience and it showed in the result against a Cov Cath team that was probably not as talented as some in the most recent past. This year who knows, I don't know enough about the Cov Cath roster to comment on what they have returning, but do know that Beechwood lost a lot, but as usual they will have very capable replacements to fill those voids. Personally I think Beechwood winning last year added a spark to the rivalry, will it take them another 6 years to win....only time will tell, but I feel pretty confident the young men from Park Hills have this game circled on the calendar while they are pushing iron around this winter and spring.

Reading way to much into it, the birds are stockpiled, like it or not it's just a fact. IMO Hergott could have started for 85% of the teams in NKY last year, he just happened to have a darn good D1 QB in front of him. Please don't get upset that everyone isn't fawning all over the kid coming back to Ryle, hope he does well, just don't think he is at the top of the class just yet.

Yep, I still like to jaw with the refs, and I don't always agree with what the coach is doing, but I keep my mouth shut, try not to be a hypocrit.

I always make it a point in the first parent meeting, and yes I still have them, that I have an open door policy and will be happy to listen to suggestions, but there are two topics that are completely forbidden, one is Jimmy or Joes playing time, the other is I will not talk about another member of the team. Other than that I am completely open to suggestion, but will confess that in the 15+ years doing this, I can probably count on one finger the number of suggestions that actually made sense. The other point is that when I first coached I was approached numerous times, seems as though the longer you do this, the fewer parental suggestions I receive. Come to think of it, haven't had one in the last three years....that's surely the kiss of death right there!
