Is it time for Beechwood to stop playing Covington Catholic? Men vs. Boys?

Featured Replies

From the game thread:

CovCath had scored 4 TD's and a FG before Beechwood tallied.

The difference in size between the two teams was dramatic.

CovCath players were routinely carrying Beechwood defenders 3-5 yards before being tackled.

Many of the turnovers were the result of MEN popping BOYS. Not a shot at the Tigers at all, just a statement of fact in the difference in the physical development of the two teams.

I love the Beechwood program, have many friends that have played there and several friends whose sons are on the team now -- that was a physical beating and I truly don't think the game should even be played. I tip my hat to Beechwood and Coach Rash for wanting to play it, but it just isn't a fair fight.

Nor do I think CovCath should be playing Bellevue, Ludlow, or any other 1A school.

Has Beechwood's program gotten that bad? If they can't compete against most of the good teams in NKY they will have a hard time winning state titles.....which is what they crave.

The program is nothing like it was under Coach Yeagle but at the same time neither is the talent.

A 4A team never has anything to gain from playing a 1A team.

Most of the years under Coach Yeagle were dominant in Class A. I cam remember years when they crushed everyone, but would lose to Cov Cath by 40 or more during the time Coach Ray was there. Either way, I don't know if I agree with stopping the game completely; it's good preparation for other teams to be faced.

If you are CovCath you always want to play this game so you can beat Beechwood's brains in and ask all the young student athletes why would you play for Beechwood when you can play for us.

Are we implying that the Coach Rash's seat is getting warmer?

I am not implying that at all but other than what Coach Rash did when he first took over the program from Coach Yeagle his resume is pretty slim by Beechwood standards.

Put it this way, if it was Highlands he would have been gone long ago.

When I used to think of Beechwood I thought of a 3A or 4A team playing in 1A both in size, athleticism, and execution.

Now I just think of them as a better than most 1A school

Real good way of thinking about.

Beechwood has a fine 1A football team and a solid coaching staff but these are not your big brothers Tigers.

I agree that this team isn't a typical BW team and they have been down for a few years. Is it an exodus of players? no committment to the weight room? I keep hearing of players moving into the school district but seldomly hear of them moving out.

The Phenom Frosh teams haven't panned out so far but I will say Fieger is an incredible high school QB already so the future should be bright for the Tigers.

How are the SK transfers panning out? Not heard UK on the soap box over them in a while? Sophomores now, i believe. I thought Stringer was filling in some at RB and Safety.

Beechwood should drop Dixie and then Dixie should start playing Highlands again. LOL, sorry to turn this into a Highlands thread.

If Coach Brossart continues on his present course with Dixie you are absolutely correct that Beechwood should drop Dixie but just like CovCath, Dixie should keep Beechwood on the schedule and consider scheduling Highlands too.
