I would put this game in the line of HHS wanting to play NCC.

 

In Ft. Mitchell and the surrounding area it is a huge game, no matter who is suppose to win. Family Vs. Family, neighbor Vs. neighbor, co-worker Vs. co-worker, heck parishioner Vs. parishioner and after the game is over, everybody sits down to some eats and drinks and talks about how bad the stripes were. It's a fun night for the kids, their parents and the neighborhoods.

 

If you were on the field after the team meetings you would have seen the players playing around with each other, family gathering together some with Blue some with Red and the pictures taken with both Red players and Blue players being taken together.

 

No, don't stop the game as IMHO the community enjoys it too much and it doesn't matter if you wear Red or Blue it's a fine night or Saturday afternoon when everybody gets together!

 

I agree with the location and class size comparison with NCC and Highlands but lets also keep in mind that throughout history the CCh/BW rivalry has been much closer. I don't know the NCC Highlands all time record against each other however the BW/CCH is much more competitive than NCC/Highlands match up. Highlands is on a whole other level when it comes to football.

Same here. Many of my best friends are Beechwood alums.

To the contrary. I'm not upset at all. Disappointed, yes, but definitely not upset. Me being upset would have meant that I had Expected to win rather than simply hope to win. We have exchanged many PMs about by position so I'm not sure how you can say I'm "drinking the Tiger-Aid".

 

I am frustrated with people pretending that these boys are no where near the talent and essentially don't belong on the same field as CCH. Because of that, I did jump the gun on you a bit because I thought these were your words. The difference this year was one player, the platooning that you mentioned and also that Beechwood Staff doesn't seem to understand how to utilize the simply above average talent to give the top players like Max Shover a rest. 37 coaches on the sidelines and nobody is managing the personnel.

From what I have witnessed, I to struggle to see some of the play call/personnel decisions being made. Against the 1A school BW plays they can get away with throwing the ball/running the ball to who ever because majority of the time they win by a large margin. But when BW plays larger schools and better competition it makes more sense to find ways to get the best players on the field, proper rest, and most importantly the BALL in their hands. Some of the play calling I have seen is very suspect and inconsistent. Both on O and D. I believe BW has very solid DB's yet I feel like they over use zone coverage. It is known BW struggles against the run as seen against CCH, however I feel like I rarely see the D line up in man coverage. The same goes with Offense - #3 Max Shover has been as consistent as they come - and mentioned in this thread against CCH is the 8 drops by WR's and the one leading to a Int...Now if you have a kid that is solid at WR, doesn't have drops and is one of your better players then why are you not finding ways to get him the ball. Time and time again I see BW going to I guess what they feel is comfortable but it's the same type of plays to same people getitng same results. I just don't see the progression. Every now and then you will see a wrinkle but to be honest it isn't enough for my liking. That makes an easy scout and your failing to keep your most potent offensive weapons involved. The move of Stokes to backfield/Full back has been great and another weapon in the arsenal - (we need more imporvising imo). Stringer is dangerous in the open field but seem to consisntely run him through holes up in middle. He is more effective on sweep plays or screen passes like a 3rd down back where as studer is probably the best hole runner on the team because he invites contact.

 

All in all I just feel like BW is under utilizing soem of their better talent and should be getting their best players involved without question. Just seems like they have a mold their comfortable with and stick to it. Glad to see Burns gettign involved as he didn't really see much action first couple games of the year.

Maybe it's not by choice, but I liked seeing the smaller, quicker linemen for Beechwood. I think it's been pretty well proven that teams can be very successful using smaller, quicker O and D linemen in defeating teams using big and slow linemen. Plus, if you are going to need to have some of them play both ways, they are usually in much better condition than the big old linemen. If I recall properly a lot of Beechwood's linemen are pretty young. That may have played a much bigger role in them getting pushed around by CovCath than their size.

Thought I'd give this one a bump. Beechwood snapped the Colonels' win streak in the series this past year. I know little about what players the Tigers are returning in 2015, but Cov Cath will have a new head coach in Eddie Eviston, who has coached against Beechwood. Coach Eviston's New Cath teams went 1-2 against Beechwood, losing 39-40 in double overtime in 2010, losing 20-29 in 2011, and winning 34-14 in 2012.

I remember in the 90's, the majority of the guys I played ball with should have gone to Scott or Dixie or Simon Kenton to play, but many left to play at Beechwood, Cov Cath or Highlands, and to tell you the truth, back then I wouldn't and couldn't blame them. But now it's just not the case. Many kids are staying put and making the other programs more competitive across the NKY board. I believe the Kenton County facilities have helped in this as well.

I would agree 100%, the facilities at the Kenton County Schools are as good or better than anything any school in NKY can put forth, and I for one am glad to see Scott become a much better football program.

To get back on the original thread, the kids are what determine how competitive the game or games will be. This past year Beechwood was senior laden with an abundance of experience and it showed in the result against a Cov Cath team that was probably not as talented as some in the most recent past. This year who knows, I don't know enough about the Cov Cath roster to comment on what they have returning, but do know that Beechwood lost a lot, but as usual they will have very capable replacements to fill those voids.

Personally I think Beechwood winning last year added a spark to the rivalry, will it take them another 6 years to win....only time will tell, but I feel pretty confident the young men from Park Hills have this game circled on the calendar while they are pushing iron around this winter and spring.

What is true in most football games is especially true in CCH vs Beechwood - the game is won in the trenches. Beechwood almost always has skill players equal to CCH. In recent years Beechwood has not had the size at the line of scrimmage to win verses CCH. Last year Beechwood had the line play they needed to win.

It's that time of the year again for the Tigers and the Colonels. Beechwood is rolling at 3-0 this season and Cov Cath is struggling at 0-4 coming into the game this Friday. Kickoff at 7:30pm in Fort Mitchell.
