When the older Dressman was in the game it was a mismatch. He was too big, too strong, and too athletic for the Beechies.

 

Late in the game when he was pulled due to injury, the game was much more evenly played.

 

Keep playing. Beechwood will be just fine in the next few years. Cupboard definitely not bare.

When were the two titles? If he had won a third and the three of them were spread out then I am with you, however Beechwood didn't win the third and the two titles were shortly after he replaced Yeagle, correct? If so, you could argue he won with Yeagle's program.

Beechwood only has 1 problem and its Mayfield!

 

 

That will get fixed as Mayfield will be moving back up to 2A in a year and Beechwood can go back to being the big ole fish in the 1A pond just like they use to be

The simple answer is No. It is not Men vs Boys. It was a Senior player who did whatever it took to beat a young team that will beat larger schools the next three years.

 

Beechwood definitely needs this game to prepare for the post season. From what I saw last night they will win the rest of their regular season games easily if they do not turn the ball over like they did last night. Then they will be a force in the playoffs until they run into the tougher competition like in years past which is what a game like last night prepares them for.

 

And it is not fair to compare anyone to the Yeagle decade. There will never be another small school run like Beechwood enjoyed in the 90s. Beechwood was nothing near that before Yeagle and actually has sustained quite well post-Yeagle. Every year they are in the hunt for a title and have not had any down years and for a Class A school that is incredible.

This thread seems like more than a little overreaction (or perhaps better stated traffic generator--I suppose I am feeding into the latter). A young Beechwood team (I also realize a lot of young CCH players in the game as well although the difference was the senior dressman as referenced above) loses 28-7 in a game where they make 4 turnovers and they should stop playing their neighboring rival school, CovCath. CovCath was and is the better team as most agree but it wasn't that big a mismatch. Watching the game in person I didn't feel like their health was at risk with the size disparity and it seems to me this is an excellent way for Beechwood to prepare themselves each year for Mayfield and other better playoff competition especially because the Tigers get such limited competition out of their district (but 3 weeks to heal). Did I miss the thread earlier this year "Is it time for Boone County to stop playing Covington Catholic? Men vs. Boys?" when CovCath beat them down 48-0 to start the season (following up on their 34-0 loss to CCH the prior year so hard to argue it was just one bad game when you haven't scored on them in 2 years). Although I suppose it would open up the schedule for a 1A Beechwood - 6A Boone County game that it appears would be much more winnable for the Tigers.

I think it's hillarious that you felt the need to clarify. What's the series record HHS vs CCH? I believe the Beechwood CCH is 19 vs 14. Doesn't seem that "one-sided" to me.

Beechwood lost 28 to 7 to CCH. 2 weeks prior they lost (a game they were more than capable of winning) to Franklin County (5A school) currently ranked #4 in state in 5A and currently undefeated. Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Connor (5A) have trouble with FC last year in playoffs?

Each year they have lost to Mayfield in playoffs.

 

Over the last 3 years Beechwood has went 6 and 7 against 4A schools and larger. Aren't 1A schools suppose to lose to 4A and bigger schools? I'm just failing to see the logic here with this thread. Beechwood does very well in 1A and hammer a lot of those schools with the exception of Frankfort and Mayfield over the last couple years. Is this thread advising Beechwood to keep playing less competition by making an easier schedule? I believe to be the best you have to play the best so why wouldn't they schedule tougher games or bigger class size schools especially when they are very competitive. It’s not like they are losing 40 to 0 every game? To act like they can't even be on the same field as some of these bigger schools is just inaccurate in my opinion. They are a little under .500 in last 3 years against those schools. The regime now, certainly isn't on the level of Yeagle, however you must realize at a small 1A school the talent level is going to fluctuate very much over the course of a decade. You can tell simply by the beechwood and CCH rivalry. Throughout the last two decades there have been times when Beechwood has owned the series for 5 years followed by CCH owning the series for 5 years or so. But according to this thread there shouldn’t even be a discrepancy on who owns the series if CCH is so superior…

Especially these next two years Beechwood will have a legitimate shot at getting W’s. Obviously there is a size difference (player’s size) in these two school, given the class size rankings – that is expected. CCH an all male school selecting from 600 kids to Beechwood with around 50 to 60 kids that dress in a varsity game made up of all grade levels.

The key difference that was the really noticeable last night is that CCH had #9 and Beechwood didn’t. You take #9, a D1 football player at 6’5’’ over 200 hundred lbs, off CCH it’s a whole different ball club.

 

Great stuff! And while I agree Beechwood may belong on the same field, and no need to stop playing CCH, I would ask, when is the last time Beechwood BEAT somebody of note? A little like former Reds skipper Dusty Baker IMO. Yes they will win the rest of the regular season games this year like opening Christmas presents, but can they win the game that matters? I am a doubter. They have to prove it to me that they can. Line play has to be better because Mayfield will match their speed and the coaching adjustments will be sound from the Cardinals.
