I agree that this team isn't a typical BW team and they have been down for a few years. Is it an exodus of players? no committment to the weight room? I keep hearing of players moving into the school district but seldomly hear of them moving out.

 

I don't THINK it is an exodus of players. I can't think of anyone that has moved out. There are still families moving in and tuition students. I know for a fact that there is a great commitment to the weight room too. I agree with Guru, it isn't what it use to be....not sure it ever will....

A 4A team never has anything to gain from playing a 1A team.

 

I disagree. 28-7 is not bad. "Iron sharpens iron." Play the better teams and see where you need to set your bar.

If Coach Brossart continues on his present course with Dixie you are absolutely correct that Beechwood should drop Dixie but just like CovCath, Dixie should keep Beechwood on the schedule and consider scheduling Highlands too.

 

On the other hand, if you don't play better teams, will your team improve? Several of you were quick to knock Scott for not playing 'up'.

When I used to think of Beechwood I thought of a 3A or 4A team playing in 1A both in size, athleticism, and execution.

 

Now I just think of them as a better than most 1A school

I have often said that had Mf and Danville been in 1A Bw's image would have not been what is became. If you are CovCath you always want to play this game so you can beat Beechwood's brains in and ask all the young student athletes why would you play for Beechwood when you can play for us.

 

I agree completely with this. It's a GREAT game for Cov Cath to play from an advertising standpoint, and like it or not, there have been quite a few students over the years who attended Beechwood grade school and turned out to have great positive impacts on the Cov Cath football team when they opted to attend Cov Cath instead (Mitchell Jobe, Marc Mangene, Manning Hanser...).

 

Beechwood would be better off making a sturdy-but-manageable schedule of 1A & and 2A victories, and maybe adding in a decent 3A team along the line to show you're not "scared of the bigger teams". Prove that anyone playing for your team will have a solid 8-2, 9-1, or 10-0 regular season, and have a solid shot at a championship ring. Bigger schools on a 1A schedule beg for more injured players and a not-so-attractive record to brag on.

Agreed. And I think as soon as they can get a couple of titles strung together in the course of two or three years, or maybe a title and a couple of appearances in the 1A championship game, then you'll see the talent pool at Beechwood increase again noticeably.

What Beechwood doesn't have, that Yeagle always had is size and natural grass fields. Beechwood teams of the 90s were some of the biggest in the state regardless of class. In October and November, when the fields went to crap, their lines dominated on both sides. Additionally, they always had one or two skill players that were FAST on FAST to compliment a bell cow back. Yeagle made adjustments on the fly that no coach could match, and he had them in position to beat any team in the state a couple of those years. W/ the intoduction of turf and spread offenses, Beechwood's advantage wasn't so advantageous. They still haven't developed a strong passing game (though Fiegler is getting there) and their lines have been pedestrian. They have evolved to become faster as a team, but a 1A school is going to have a tough time matching speed everywhere with the bigger boys. You have to give up one for the other due to roster size. It seems like the years of Beechwood and NewCath routinely giving the bigger schools a beating are going to fade into oblivion. The bigger schools are getting more players and better coaching than in the past (due to developing youth programs) and Beechwood's #s are stagnant. Not their fault, just is what it is.

Beechwood lost 28 to 7 to CCH. 2 weeks prior they lost (a game they were more than capable of winning) to Franklin County (5A school) currently ranked #4 in state in 5A and currently undefeated. Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Connor (5A) have trouble with FC last year in playoffs?

Beechwood does very well in 1A and hammer a lot of those schools with the exception of Frankfort and Mayfield over the last couple years. Is this thread advising Beechwood to keep playing less competition by making an easier schedule? I believe to be the best you have to play the best so why wouldn't they schedule tougher games or bigger class size schools especially when they are very competitive. It’s not like they are losing 40 to 0 every game? To act like they can't even be on the same field as some of these bigger schools is just inaccurate in my opinion. They are a little under .500 in last 3 years against those schools. The regime now, certainly isn't on the level of Yeagle, however you must realize at a small 1A school the talent level is going to fluctuate very much over the course of a decade. You can tell simply by the beechwood and CCH rivalry. Throughout the last two decades there have been times when Beechwood has owned the series for 5 years followed by CCH owning the series for 5 years or so. But according to this thread there shouldn’t even be a discrepancy on who owns the series if CCH is so superior…

Especially these next two years Beechwood will have a legitimate shot at getting W’s. Obviously there is a size difference (player’s size) in these two school, given the class size rankings – that is expected. CCH an all male school selecting from 600 kids to Beechwood with around 50 to 60 kids that dress in a varsity game made up of all grade levels.

The key difference that was the really noticeable last night is that CCH had #9 and Beechwood didn’t. You take #9, a D1 football player at 6’5’’ over 200 hundred lbs, off CCH it’s a whole different ball club.

The bottom line in this discussion for Beechwood - 2011. If they win the title that year with a dominant team, all this hogwash doesn't exist. That is probably the only season of the Rash era that Beechwood didn't fulfill their potential. That would give Rash three titles and anyone questioning him or what is happening at Beechwood would look like a total fool.

And if its Men vs boys...answer this...if Sam Dressman #9 was suiting up for the Tigers in last nights game and not CCH....what is the outcome? My point being is that the MEN vs boys argument isn't as big as it is being portrayed because if ONE player is on the other team the outcome of this game is exceptionally different in my opinion. He was the biggest factor in the game besides Beechwood having 4 turnovers.
