This is an example for every young player to use the opportunity they are given and give very thing you got on the field and off like Travis. This kid didn't wait and played himself into a D1 player before his senior year. Great career Mr. Elliott! Better days are on the horizon for you!

"Big Lew" was so funny and he didn't even know it. Talk about a huge person. 6'4" 300. That guy could dominate when he wanted to. No question he could have played at a higher level if he wanted to. Notice how I use te phrase, "if the wanted to." UL wanted him. I remember him when he lifted weights for the first time as a freshman. He benched 300lbs with pure strength with no firm. Amazing potential. 1990 was stacked. Boone was ranked number one, cov cath, holmes, lloyd, dixie, beechwood, highlands all were real good. Back then only two teams per district made the playoffs and there were only 4 classes. Making the playoffs was such a feat back then. I wish it went back to that.

Never understood why they needed these rules. Can't they just play football.

Is it fun of course, why would we play? But I loved the satisfaction of knowing I was able to put it on the line. Then the respect I got from my coaches and teammates was the greatest feeling ever. Anyone can go out and play basketball or baseball with a group of people, but football it doesn't work like that. You need the equiptment the teammates and 11 other guys to play against. Football is a special fraturnity and you don't get accepted until you put it on the line.

As a young kid I used to keep score for the weekly mens league at Turners. Afterwards when I would clean up Dan would be shooting baskets all alone and just nail jump shots from everywhere. I would rebound for him. I thought he could not miss. And they all were swishes too. He used to show me a trick that when the basketball nets were brand new and real tight and that if you make a perfect swish it would snap the ball back out through the rim. And he did it over and over. I will always remember that. It was like magic to a kid. If anyone knows please correct me, but I was told he had a nickname when he was with the royals. He played behind Oscar Robertson. So when Oscar took a break Dan would sub for him. The nickname was something like the "3 minute man", b/c thats all the Big O needed for a break. What a great person.

I am not saying they have but I am saying they will this time. But that is my opinion. I do know they will hire a person they think will mesh well with the kids there. They are not just looking at a resume. They will inquire to past experiences as to their appoarch towards inner city kids. Which explains my thought.

The most important criteria they will use in selecting a new coach is how they feel the coach can interact and communicate with the players. You can plug a lot of different coaches in many programs but you can not plug a lot of coaching types at Holmes. They will look at this first then coaching resumes. That leads me to believe they will stay with someone close to the program.

Lickert has played Freshman in the past. But their strength lies in their backfield. So he has to work his way in between Greg Clemons & Damian Oden, which is Scruggs 1st cousin. I think with Scruggs speed they will use him defensively for sure. Also, Jonathan is running track and has won all the meets he has ran versus freshmen as an 8th grader. This game got out of hand early. Ockerman came out in a 2-3 zone that frustrated the holmes guards. They couldn't get the ball into the paint. The stanley kid from ockerman is quite a player. He sees the court well. Holmes looked rushed and couldn't hit many shoots. Ockerman played great defense.

Holmes lead the entire game. Scott made some great 3s throughout the game to keep it close. Jackson was very good. Scott executed very well at the end of the game. Englemon and Peterson fouling out before OT killed holmes. I have to admit the refs blew the 5th foul call on Peterson. The ref was standing at a bad angle and called a pushing foul but peterson never touched him. I was sitting were you could see there was no contact. You hate to see it but the ref made a bad call...it happens. The double drill call was pretty bad too. Refs had a bad game. Coaches won't admit it. But refs don't lose the game. Holmes were given their chances to win. Scott threw the ball away a few times. Holmes missed to many FTs. Frommeyer did a great job of keeping his team calm. Also, Holmes could have imploded after some of those calls at the end but they hung in there. Kaiser should be commended for that. His boys look good. Congrats to both teams.

Yeah, not sure how it happened either. He was an athlete, just not a hard worker and took his talent for granite. He didn't work at the little things...Blocking schemes, blitz pickups, discipline running attack,, that sort of thing. It was the Barcelona Dragons too. He was special teams and back up RB. I think he had some connections. That helps too in all levels.

Not saying you are. I get that little man's syndrome at times. It's a curse.

May seem like its so easy for guys to go to a "small college" and start. Doesn't always happen that way. My junior year, we had another junior who transfered from West Virginia as a walk on to play my position in D3 world. He was 6'0" 225lbs (4.5 40), I was 5'8" 195lbs (who knows 40). I ended up with the starting position for two years. He did go on to play in NFL Europe though. But he couldn't start in D3 though. I didn't get the look from bigger colleges b/c of my small stature. I get it. My point is, if you think that it is that easy to play at a small school then you are sadly mistaken. Those small school first stringers are strong. They all are former standout, allstars or captians. If you think you got what it takes then play as high as you can...basically, go big or go home. No room here in "Small College" world but guys with big hearts who lay it on the line.

It is and was totally worth it for me. I could only image if I didn't. Over coming that challenge only helped my confidence in all areas. The friends I made, the places I traveled and memories are priceless. I can tell you good evidence of why it is worth it. I see the guys who gave up or never went to play...the either never finished their degree or just flat out feel the "what if" guilt. Goals: Get my family's first college degree - Check Play 4 years of football -Check Get a career - Check Walk around with my head held high - Priceless What a pessimitic thread. Hope this helps players that was on the fence. If you want to play football then do not let anything stop you.

It doesn't matter the age of the players. If you can create a system for players to excel in the league they are competing in, then that determines a good coach. A good coach will understand their competition. Then coach to overcome it. Putting the players in right positions is critical. You have to have a head coach with a good vision then everyone falls into place. Ken is one of the best at that. That's what would help CC Freshmen. Most people who know Ken would agree with my comments.

Then what reason would they have to not hire a guy who is one of the better coaches in the NKY area? And was wanting to do it and has experince with those kids.

I say yes and no to this question. Can you do that? Yes - I officiated AAU youth basketball for 5 years and I was amazed by the reaction of some parents. They really thought we would cheat. Now I coach and it has given me a different view of referees. I talk to my parents about their behavior towards the refs. They don't always listen though. If only everyone had the experience of officiating I think there would be an entire different treatment towards them. Officating is tough and it takes a tough person to put up with the ridicule. No - You just want the officials to admit mistakes and the ones that do really learn to become better refs. I have had officials that have come over at half times or timeouts that give you an explanation or admition to a blown call. I have a lot of respect for those guys. But the guys that seem put out to be there you can see they do not get themselves in good situations. Those refs owe it to the players to give it their impartial and undivided intentions with no past influences coming into the game. They should pretend that they never seen either team so they can be impartial. Isn't that why they do that for playoffs. Impartial is critial.

Thank you Sir. I wasn't so sure after week 1. They put it on us. We had quite a few unproven players that got better as the year went on. We had speed but couldn't handle the overall talent & size of that CCRD team. (I really liked that Avery Wood. Great attitude) Hergott did a great job with them. I am impressed with all those kids in that game. I thought the CCRD team I saw with Kelly and Kramer was real tough but this one was on the same level. Also, I stopped in the holmes weight room and over 10 of those kids on that BT superbowl team where lifting with the varsity kids. I think the Holmes Freshmen team will be pretty tough. That depends on if they let Scruggs play freshmen or just stay varsity.

Coach Turner still is one of my favorite coaches I ever played for. He demands respect from his players and they will give all they got for him. Great job Bryan Station.

No offense taken. Obivously, I would have picked Scruggs, which is why you have to pick another player from a different team. The organizations made the choice not me. I still had to pick between those CCRDs and the league. Connor Conaboy was one of the best lineman this league has produced. I felt Zach was the most complete player in the league. Scruggs may have been the most talented. I feel if everyone watched the same games we did you would only agree with the other coaches who made their votes. And all those coaches watch a lot of film. I think the MVP is a good award to give out and it sparks fun debate. There is no doubt, CCRD was one of the best middle school teams and collection of players ever to play together. And probably the best defense I have seen. I am glad to have had the opportunity to play them in the superbowl. It will be fun watching them progess through high school.

He is currently at Holmes and in their weight program. He is loving weight lifting. I do not think they ever thought of going to CovCath. He wants to stay with his friends and relatives that go to Holmes. They have some real good quality kids in the probram. With the talent currenly and coming to play at Holmes they should be a very storng contender in 4A. It would be nice to see Jalen Beal play both sports at holmes. Peterson, scruggs and beal would be 3 potential all staters on one team.
