  1. Played Devou Park the other day for kicks and giggles (only $20 & shady).. The course was in good shape for what it is, not sure exactly which but one of the back par 4's fairway was like walking on ultra-plush carpet. One downside- I am pretty sure I lost more balls on purpose than I actually lost. My short game was super frustrating, I have a hard time staying down on my wedges and my putting is average at best. Thank God I get off the tee and hit my longer irons well. Still getting about 170 yds out of my 7-iron. However the dreaded 3 putt shows up more than I would like. Shot a 90 so not horrible but Devou is a short course and should have been in the low 80's. I have played Fox Run, California, Devou, Triple Crown, Eagle Creek, Boone Links, Shelbyville Country Club (Louisvillish- my old man lives there). All have been in pretty good shape considering.. Favorite was Triple Crown- had never played it before and thoroughly enjoyed my 91 out there..
  2. Its okay to be emotional with your players. Hence the reference to the banquet. I also said I understand players/seniors because it could be the end of their playing. Im more talking about coaches. For any coach in the NCAA tourney, there is a next year. Nobody fires a coach for losing in the Dance. Coaches, who are grown ups, should be able to handle themselves in a professional manner during a press conference. I'm not saying they shouldn't be emotional, just stop the sobbing. I have played and coached (not elite yet) and have never cried after a game. I've been mad and upset but never to tears. Have you ever seen Calipari cry at a press conference after a game? Knight? Wooden? Riley (pat)? Anyway, just seems a little over the top to me.
  3. I feel the same about any player who throws a punch during a game. If you set the expectation to begin with, you will avert future problems. Don't forget I dogged the NCAA in my post for not being more stringent on this topic. I also congratulated your team on the win. Fighting has no place in sports unless you are boxing or playing hockey. If Yancy wants to throw punches he should take up one of those.
  4. Food for discussion-- It seems as though during every post game interview there has been someone from some team crying. When did this start happening? I know players have occasionally had a rough time when losing but coaches? I know they have just as much wrapped into the team as the players do, if not more, but really guys? Save the emotion for the banquet. Come out, talk about the game and move on. Maybe this is why there are only a few elite teams and coaches in sports. I would be willing to bet P. Jackson only cried tears of joy and probably not during a post game interview. Same goes with many other coaches. Anyway, I was thinking about this and figured who better to "debate" it out than the fine folks using BGP..
  5. I'm gonna get hammered for this but oh well, here I go-- First, congrats to Coach Cronin on two tough W's. I am glad UC has revived it's fan base. The more the merrier at the top- only makes for better basketball. However, Yancy Gates should not be on this roster. I understand people make mistakes, I have, but to assault another person in the manner in which he did is criminal. He may not be a true "thug" (I hear he is an okay dude) but after he made the decision to throw an unwarranted haymaker punch during a game (yes, this is still JUST a game) is in(un?)excusable. We are willing to completely suspend a player for receiving any form of benefit from his talent but we will only slap the wrist of a player who blatantly-on a national stage-committed a crime. I wish Bearcat fans success in the future but I for one will not be rooting for them in any game until this guy is gone. As a fan of intercollegiate sports (in general) I think the NCAA put a black mark on its behavior policy by not handing down a full year suspension (if not career suspension). With that said, let the games continue!! One week away from knowing the heralded Final 4!!
  6. Chris Farley- all time fav comedian Michael Jordan- all time great athlete JFK- most interesting story Hulk Hogan w/ Miss Elizabeth circa 1989- Great childhood memory
  7. Sorry, you could probably copy/paste it into the browser.. Interesting film to say the least, wouldn't it be nice to have the team Euliss (sp?) Trinity had?!?
  8. Thought some of you may find this story interesting. It is a video you can watch directly on the website: High school football has never had a higher profile, with nationally televised games, corporate sponsorships, and minute-by-minute coverage on sports websites. In northwest Arkansas, FRONTLINE examines one ambitious high school team working its way towards national renown. With a superstar quarterback at the helm, tiny Shiloh Christian is striving to join the ranks of the country’s best high school teams—teams whose workout schedules, practices, and styles of play increasingly imitate the pros. But as high school players grow bigger, faster, and stronger, there are growing concerns about the health and safety of these young players, with rising rates of concussions and death from heat stroke.
  9. Spencer gave Collins a decent showing in the first half.. Looked like Collins just had too many horses-- RB Brooks is pretty shifty! I remember his dad playing in the 90's. Not too many people at the game- sad to see that considering it was a 2nd round game. Good luck to Collins and Coach Lucas next week.
  10. What would my comment have to do about lack of knowledge in coaching? I simply referenced facts about WV past seasons.. We know you obviously have an agenda- your screen name.. I also believe anyone who posts on here has an agenda, their own. As far as building programs from scratch, you are right, never had the pleasure... Or maybe I have- that you do not know..
  11. I still haven't quite figured out what the draw is here. He took over an up and coming new program at a school that has always had it's fair share of athletes-- then proceeded to lose miserably in his first year, catch a good district in a bad year in his 2nd only to then beat Bracken (how they get in playoffs is a joke) and get hammered by Frankfort. Then jump in class to a lower quality opponent (minus Owen this year)(left Beechwood, Bellevue, etc) and lose in the first round of playoffs to a team they beat soundly in the season (looking past Lloyd was a mistake). This makes him a quality candidate for a big time NKY job?!? Not so much. I think Scott's coach should stay there, they deserve to have a legit HC. Sounds to me like Borchers is doing pretty well at Cooper- so I wouldn't see him moving. I am intrigued about this Siple fella- hear a lot about him and I appreciate offensive innovators since the game has moved from ground and pound over the last few years. Interesting debate for the next weeks/months.. Hopefully for Dixie not months....
  12. I am a warrior myself... Plus I played for both coaches (Lucas and Shipley) when Lucas first came to S-ville.. Like them both but Lucas was a favorite. Was glad to see him get the job and having success.. I will get my first look at the team this weekend..
  13. Will be attending this game- hope Coach Lucas gives me a good reason for making the trip back home to Shelbyville.. Don't know much about either team so I am gonna homer this pick and say Collins wins..
  14. Not that surprised on this one.. I figured it would be a close game- talked to a Lloyd guy and he had said they were gonna make Walton beat them in the air. Can't win in postseason when you are one dimensional- have to be able to change it up with different looks.. Lack of preparation or general oversight? Also not 100% on this but if you look at schedules from the season I would have given Lloyd the edge b/c of better competition.. While WV was playing Gallatin, Trimble, Estill, etc. Lloyd had a pretty decent haul in late season.. (Holy Cross, NCC, Newport, Bellevue) Even in losses, when you play better competition it makes you better..
  15. Not knowing too many players on this team- does the lady who was outspoken about him being kicked off have a child on the team?
