Newport really has a chance to make a run in the playoffs. It comes down to playing discipline mistake free football. Turnovers and penalties have killed them at times this year. Sure that up and they have a good shot at going far. Play undisciplined and go home early. They have more weapons than anyone in their region of the bracket. Talent is there.

Love seeing the Eagles fight their way back. Congrats to Mason County on the win and good luck in the playoffs!

I have not. I don't pretend to know much about most of the schools in the top ten. I just think this was somewhat of a down year for the NKY 5A district. Hopefully one of the NKY teams catches fire and does some damage in the playoffs.

I am not surprised there is no South Oldham or Cooper. I think the NKY 5A District is very mediocre this year. Good news is we get to see for sure in another week.

This is similar to last year. Both had a common opponent in Newport in 2013. Mason wins a close one against Newport and Scott beats Newport by 50. Scott was feeling pretty confident, as was I, going into the Mason County game until Mason came out and punched Scott in the mouth. IMO, Mason dominated the 2013 game. They were very physical and well coached. I've learned to not look past Mason County. I hope Scott has as well. There's no outcome in this game that would surprise me.

NCC wouldn't come close to beating Scott or Conner.

I agree somewhat but Woolley has also been blessed with some of the finest football facilities in NKY and also gifted with perhaps the weakest schedule the past two years that the school has known in recent history. I don't think its unfair to question exactly how much water the "winning record" truly holds.

If Scott doesn't win this game I think you have to ask if the program is truly moving in the right direction.

Is Grant in the district this year? They aren't listed as part of the district on the KHSAA scoreboard.

Since you are making a football reference, "This is CovCaths year to beat Highlands" would also be acceptable.

I have no affiliation to Scott other than I live in their school district and attend some of there games. For that reason, I do root for Scott but I also equally root for other teams that I have a little more affiliation to. I do agree, whenever Scott plays a good team, they struggle. But with that being said, this weeks game will have no bearing on my opinion, NCC wouldn't beat South Oldham.

Because I've seen enough of both teams to know. It really isn't close.

Are you sure that is correct? It sure seemed like Newport had more penalty yards than that. 5 personal foul penalties is just inexcusable. Newport was very undisciplined.

I think the one thing that is evident is that one and I mean just one SK fan seems to really rile up a bunch of fans from other schools who constantly tell us how much smarter and mature they are. For that reason alone it seems like no matter who SK beats, they lose.

SK is a pretty good team. Without knowing their roster they seem to be young and somewhat immature playing to the level of their opponents.

If the Florida team is truly a top 20 Florida team then I think its a fair statement. Florida is in the major leagues of high school football, we in KY are at about the Double A level.

Yes! But Highlands fans will use the Ryle game against SK and totally dismiss the score differential in their game against the Camels and SK's game against the Camels. You can't have it both ways. I would think that the Camels should have been a better team in their 6th game of the season against SK then they were their first game of the season against Highlands.
