Two guys from East Carter: Mark Berry- OL/DL- had offers to play DL at Morehead and Western, but just wasn't interested in going to college. He is still in Grayson, married and doing well Aaron Miller- OL/DL- went to UK and was Freshman all-SEC as a left tackle, but couldn't stay eligible; no doubt in my mind he would be playing on Sundays if he could have stayed on the field. I think he ended up at KCC, but I don't know if he made on the field there either

Coach Stepp used to coach at Berea, so this is a logical choice. He would be a great choice. He has Clay competing and had Berea in the playoffs. He would win at Mad South

I am partial to the spread, but I think ANY offense that features the otion game as a base is great. Defenses have incredible trouble beating the option. Mixing in the option with a good short passing game is ideal, in my opinion.

I am a big believr in the multiple 50. It is really a 3-4 when run correctly. You need versitile up-men on the ends of the line of scrimmage. Those guys are key, along with a good nose and a good Mike. It is versitile enough that, with proper personnel and coaching, you can match up against the run and shoot one week and the triple option the next. I love it!

Euless Trinity won...this isn't the state title game though. Euless beat Converse Judson the next week for the state title in 5A division 1.

This is great to hear. He was a good coach at Lex Cath and it is nice to see him have success in Georgia.

Trinity is from Texas, however there is a large population of Samoan immigrants in the Euless area. The Haka they do after every game is awesome, very similar to what Hawaii does.

Having coached in Kentucky and now coaching in Texas, I would say these three are the reasons for a lack of victories by Kentucky schools over some teams from other states. Texas high school football coaching is on another level. A lot of guys have college experience both as a player and coach and that makes a difference. Any school that uses two way players will struggle against a team in the GCL that two platoons all of their guys. Fatigue makes cowards of us all and combined with the talent at these schools, the combination can make great teams look bad on a given night. When Kentucky schools start having more success, then their will be that expectation of winning, which will lead to a different mindset during preparation and a better attitude going into a game. This can make the difference between winning and losing. All of this said, I know I hopld Kentucky football in higher regard than a lot of posters on this site (based on comments in some other threads I have started). I believe Kentucky has some great programs that can compete nationally with other top programs. The question is depth. Highlands, X and Trinity can compete with almost anyone, and some of the smaller programs like Beechwood, NCC, Danville and Belfry can hang with any other small program in the country. The problem lies in that in Texas, there are 12 or so state champs in smaller classes that can compete with the smaller programs like Beechwood, NCC, Danville and Belfry and that doesn't include the top teams in those divisions, so there are probably like 40 or so teams in Texas at that level. You can say the same thing about the larger schools. I don't think the problem is at the top, it is in the lack of depth of great high school football teams in the state, overall.

Those receiver number for the kids from Lone Oak and Lewis County are darn impressive...both those kids should be playing at the next level, I assume.

Duncanville is an impressive team...lots of athleticism. This is a good showing by the Cards.

What's the story with Fairview? The job was posted on KHSAA. Was the coach fired? I know Tackett left, but the program was soild when he left, wasn't it? Any background from my northeastern KY buddies?

There are a lot of good western Kentucky programs. The get less publicity, but teams like Mayfield, Bowling Green, Tilghman are well respected. Good, solid footbal being played out west.

I don't want to freeze out the Trinity, St. X and Highlands fans because I am a huge fan of all of those programs and everyone that follows high school football nationally recognizes these programs as the best in the state, no questions asked. I do want to know, however, what are some of the programs that don't get the attention, but are solid programs throughout the state? I tend to think of the little guys when I think of underrated. Russell probably is the most underrated, in my opinion. All the Red Devils do is win. They are very solid and are probably the best program in the eastern part of the state. Who else is out there? Who you got?

I echo this sentiment across the board for a lot of these high school football teams. Miami Northwestern was a great team (I saw the Miami Northwestern/ Southlake Carroll game in person. Both great teams! Southlake doesn't get out of the region in Texas this year). I think there are a bunch of great teams and I'm not sure these rankings reflect an accuarate picture of who is the best team in the country.

1. There seems like there should have been a Bluebird on the roster. 2. Kentucky football is on the rise...look at the schools some of these kids are commiting to. There is a lot of talent in the state of Kentucky!

Many different number one teams, depending on which list you look at. I was just trying to get some opinions from folks. I had the pleasure of attedning both Texas 5A state title games this year and I hae to say Euless Trinity was the best team I have seen this year. Dominant on both lines of scrimmage and great speed in the backfield. I know some folks are closer to the Ohio and Tennesse schools then I am. Even Trinity, X and Highlands may get some consideration. Just curious.

There are several states that seperate the two. The rivals list did not include the seperate private school championships for several states. Again, nflhs.com will produce a more complete list.

NFLHS.com will produce a state champions list as well that is more complete. There are more champions in a few states (like New York and California).

Oh yeah, Tre Newton is still running wild here in Texas...he'll do his running next year at Texas.

Incidently, how about this gem: Johnson Central vs. Archbishop Stepinac, NY The mighty Eagles defense versus the wing-t proficiency of the defending state champion Crusaders would not be for the faint of heart. Bring your lunch pail and your hard hat, because this one will be blue-collar all the way. Your school versus mine :fight: Seriously, this would be a good game.

Wow...I really liked what I saw from Brentwood this year...high praise, but Trinity is a monster! It would be a nice game.
