According to the best available info I could find, the CCL changed its name several years ago. Then again, it's the interwebs ... can you really believe anything on it/them?

They've been playing the Prep Bowl in Chicago for 74 years now. Sounds like the Detroiters are just a little late.

Especially since the folks in Illinois own the trademark on Prep Bowl (season-ending championship game between the winner of the Chicago public-school playoffs and the winner of Chicagoland's Catholic Metro Conference.

I like the way we do it in Florida: By rule, playoff games' kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

They'll need more seats on the visitors' sideline, then. (Not joking, either. Ask Middlesboro how the Pirates travel.)

Best fans, other than my own high school of course (hey, look! We're #3 in Florida's Class 4A! ) ... ... and remembering that my newspaper career took me to Wyoming, Oregon, Kentucky and Florida ... Belfry. Easily. Always acted classy, traveled very well (sometimes outdrawing the home team), treated fans of other teams well. Second place goes to Burns (Wyo.) Junior/Senior High School. The parents of a coupla Burns Broncs saw me trying to send a game story via a cellular phone modem from the tailgate of my truck one night at the truck stop there; after that, I got to use a phone line at an insurance office near the school. Love those folks. Unfortunately, the Broncs are already out of the 2A playoffs (that's what happens sometimes when you draw the #1 team in the first round and have a six-hour road trip).

Given their enrollment, I'd guess that their JV team is their freshmen and sophomores. No freshman team per se; drops straight from JV to eighth grade. When the competition fumbles the ball away six times inside its own 20 --- all in the first quarter --- that's how it ends up. I'd be surprised if anybody gives them a game before the state championship game, when they should come up against the Catholic high school from Pittsburg, Kan.

Clock ran in the second half. They went for two in the second quarter and the third-quarter field goal was a third-down play. The JV also hasn't allowed a point this year (against JV teams, although I suspect they give other varsity teams h-e-double hockey sticks when the Smith Center varsity is taken out) and the 8th-grade team has allowed one touchdown. Smith Center's enrollment in grades 10, 11 and 12 (09/20/2007): 112.

Class 2-1A team (third-smallest class and smallest of the 11-man groups) in western Kansas that hasn't lost a game since 2003 or so. The 72 points in the first quarter was a national record. Outscored their opponents 602-0 so far. If the information I saw is correct, they're riding a 50-game winning streak.

The sprinkler system is not as effective at the CAM as it was at Vipperman, for some reason. Not as useful, either. :lol: But if you can make the drive, then make the drive. Weather should be chilly, but not much chance of rain there this weekend.

Sadly, the further east you get in Kentucky the more often you see that.

I remember spending a couple of hours for each PCB preview typing in all the rosters we could get sent to us (you'd be surprised how many coaches "forget" to send their rosters in advance, or haven't solved the simple puzzle of computers and e-mail :lol: ). And now they're not even in there?!? :madman: Ah, screw it. I don't work there anymore.

In Eastern Kentucky, there is no club volleyball ... period. T'would get in the way of endless basketball season. As for the 2-out-of-3 vs. 3-out-of-5 thing, I have no idea why the NFHS continues to allow the KHSAA to do it wrong.

Just to give everybody a jumping-off point for conversation, last year the Warriors finished 8-18 with an eight-game losing streak to close out the season.
