When was the last time WV failed to go to the 8th region tourney?

Where did they play? If they meet @ NKU it is such a much different setting. Just curious.

What about last night's games, other than the scores?

Did this game evaporate? Nothing exists on the khsaa website tonight, but it was listed yesterday.

Now that it appears that the KHSAA may be looking into attendance and location of the girls' Sweet 16 again, this thread has pretty much outlived its usefulness. But it has been viewed quite a bit. I just wondered how many views this has compared to others that have been viewed a lot.

PTB, you are very much correct in that most of the leading teams have done this. However, it is a very sad state of the current reality that this is a "must." No issue with you or with you stating this, just not in sync with the way things are.

For the Dragons, the third time will be the charm. These boys' come out firing as if they were headed to the OK Corral, launching it with no conscience. They shoot to get hot, then they shoot to stay hot. Win or lose, they will fly it, and my take is that tonight we'll see a them making shots ... for a win. Nothing against O-Cath, as I have not seen them.

With the mention of Mercer Co., let's not forget the 90's LexCath teams, especially those featuring Mercer County's VonDale Morton - who had quite a long commute. The situation of this entire thread is rampant, maybe more so, on the girls' side of the b-ball ledger. It's the "ACCUMULATION OF TALENT" that is driving many of the successful teams/programs. FREE AGENCY is now the norm in KHSAA basketball. Circumvention of rules and their intent has gone crazy, as parents pimp-out their kids, kids go to the best offer, and kids and parents collude to go here or there, just like the James/Wade/Bosch drama with the Miami Heat. I recall a mid-90s Sweet 16 in Louisville that featured about 25% of the participating teams utilizing players who had played on another team that very same season!!! It was sickening then, but the problem is much more widespread and worse now. It is now all about the accumulation of talent.

Not a bad choice, for sure. Frankfort Civic Center may be the most centrally located venue. But was it broken when held at WKU??? I maintain that it was not.

You are correct. Football and boys get an automatic following just because they are football and boys. Geez, I hate saying that, but it is what it is. There is really not much in common between girls' b-ball and boys' football.

There are multiple venues around the state suitable for hosting. EMBRACING the girls Sweet 16 is what needs to be the crux of where it is played. WKU certainly did that, but now NKU is getting its shot. The point is that is was not broken in Bowling Green and did not need a fix, but that is spilt milk. If NKU is not a significantly better, and they need a fair chance to prove it, the KHSAA has egg on is face and a screwed it up royally. Bottom line is the girls' Sweet 16 is a great event that is worthy of top-notch promotion. Again, community/region embracement is the key factor as to where it should be.

NKU has proven that it has a great arena - but so does WKU. They both are excellent. Being near Cincinnati is a plus in many ways, but Bowling Green also has fine options for food, shopping, etc. Depending on your location, you will prefer one over the other. IMO, success should hinge upon how northern Kentucky embraces the event, and this is what seems strange about the move to NKU. It may work out fine and all is well for the KHSAA coffers, but Bowling Green certainly proved that it embraced of the Sweet 16 for many years, which seems to show a lack of loyalty and appreciation for a job well done providing good ol' southern hospitality. To be fair, there may be some solid underlying reasons that have not been made public, and we must realize that it will take the full two year trial period to iron out any kinks.

Couldn't agree with you more! It was terrible when we had to travel north up I-71 for two hours to play the 8th region tourney up there the past. C'mon, now, we all have take our turn in the barrel, right? (It could be worse. Just imagine if it is ever held at Spencer Co.!!!)

Practice makes permanent, but it is proper practice that makes for improvement. It is maximum (within reason) proper repetition that exponentially increases improvement. Coaches are not all equally able to create practice situations that make this happen, which sometimes is due the abilities of the coach, but often may be due to the competitive situation of the school itself. That said, if and when the proper techniques and playing insights are taught through the implementation of fundamentally sound drills, most players should show improvement IF THEY WORK HARD CONSISTENTLY AND ARE WILLING TO ACCEPT COACHING.
