Simon Kenton 51 Walton Verona 41 32nd District First Round

Featured Replies

Final from Williamstown. Closer than anyone expected.

Walton better or typical SK team that won't meet expectations?

Maybe they will come on here and cry about how they got hosed, cheated, blah blah

Survive and advance. They ain't giving style points this time of year.

congrats to SK for advancing and give credit to WV for competing

Definitely closer than most would have thought. I would assume WV played better than expected.

Walton really played well to end the year. If you made a list of the top 4 or 5 teams in the 8th RIGHT NOW they would probably be on it.

Took them a while to find their groove and fell to #4 in district bc of it.

Walton hit a bunch of 3's. Perry and Poore got Walton back in the game after SK was up 15 or 17. Walton had it down to 43-39 and then SK went on 8-2 run to close out the game.

Walton played relaxed while SK was tight. Being relaxed, Walton hit a high % of threes while SK missed quite a few open looks. Harmeyer and Harney did not look right to me.

Congratulations to Walton on their season, and, especially to the seniors.

I myself thought Shelby shot the ball well and played very hard nosed as usual. Was very shocked to see her not start.

Also thought that WV played a very patient game and did what they could to pull off an upset. Kudos to them for playing an awesome game against a great SK team. Congrats to the WV seniors and the rest of the players and coaches on a good season.

Good luck to SK in the District finals and in the Region. Make some noise!

Congrats to the WV girls on an outstanding effort. After being down 15 at the half it sure looked like it was going to be a long night however they battled, made some shots and got some defensive stops. Being down 4 with 2 minutes to go is all you could have asked for after the halftime score. SK's pressure both offensively and defensively is relentless.

Like Trimble last year WV showed the blueprint for how to compete with SK. Shocked Stowers had his team hold the ball for most of the 4th quarter. WV packed it in and allowed them to. But in doing so they sort of killed the momentum they had going. But any coach would take their chances being down only 4 with 3 minutes left.

SK not a sure thing to make the Sweet 16. No sure things come tourney time. They have all the tools but I get the sense from watching them they are not all on the same page. Not many teams can match up with Meier's size yet they do not make her a priority to touch the ball on many possessions. And there was one sequence in the game when it looked like Stamper and another player were playing keep away from Niece. Stowers had to call timeout to make them give her the ball. Harney, Harmeyer, Jones, Stamper, Gilliam chuck too many 3's for my taste. Last night only Harmeyer shot it well. Niece is a nice high school player...high basketball IQ and plays within herself. She killed WV on the offensive board.

Hope SK and Trimble hookup again in the regional. That will be fun to watch. Congrats to WV on a solid year in Coach Clink's absence. They will be solid again next season.

My buddy texting me updates said Walton pulled within 4 early in the 4th quarter after hitting 2-3 back to back threes and then they let SK hold it. If that's true, (trailing by 4 early in 4th) not sure why they would take pressure of SK? You have been looking for momentum during the game and then you let your opponent stop your momentum? Easy to second guess now but if you cut a 14-15 point lead down to 4, why do you take your foot off the neck? Always a proponent of not letting up.

When was the last time WV failed to go to the 8th region tourney?
