I wouldn't quite say they had trouble keeping the score down, but they certainly didn't try to run it up either. Rather vanilla all night running mainly sweeps and simple dive plays, with a few passes mixed in early. BB defense put up little resistance, and NCC's line dominated the game throughout. BB "O" actually showed some signs of life on several drives, even early when it was 1's vs. 1's; but couldn't seal the deal with a score. Classy showing by all appearances; despite some of the rhetoric on here, the kids played it hard & clean. Didn't see any woofing or pushing & shoving--Dominant performance by the superior team. Best of luck to both the remainder of the season, and good luck to the 'Breds in defending their title!!

I seriously doubt the Brossart kids are stupid enough to talk smack to an obviously superior opponent?? Seems like some of the NCC faithful on here are making this game more than it is, not the kids??

You make some very valid points. The move to 2-A will haunt for years to come I'm afraid; but what is, is.

Good points regarding "football players" EG, although the situation isn't quite as hopeless as it may seem IMO. Those several classes of outstanding athletes mentioned, that was so successful in many sports, had few with any football experience; although had they grown up as football players, I'm certain they would have had some success. The program has had several setbacks since it's beginning, as many on here have mentioned, and now getting moved into 2-A as about the 26-27th smallest school in the state (current enrollment) will probably be another. In some ways, its like football has "started over" a couple of times in the only 4-5 years of the BB's programs existence?? That said, they have had some stability in the coaching ranks, numbers are up, and they are beginning to get some players with actual football experience; with an active middle school program that is getting better. They will undoubtably continue to lose very good football players to NCC or Highlands, but can be an option for that next tier of Campbell County kids, some who may turn into very nice varsity players as they mature. I still think the model used at Walton Verona (get a group of interested kids at the middle school age, play a freshman schedule when they get to 9th, JV schedule as they age and then go Varsity when they're seniors) is the preferred way to build a program. That way as the program matures, there is a system in place at the younger ages to develop replacements for the graduating seniors each year. Small schools will still go up & down with given strong & weaker classes; but not the huge swings in talent level. I'd anticipate a move back to 1-A in the next realignment, where they may be more competitive with the other (non-Beechwood) area small schools. The fact that they have overachieved in most of their others sports, where they're consistently more than competitive with much larger schools, probably hasn't helped football, as all kids want to be part of a winner. Agree, it may be years before the program gets to a true competitive level, and sports like soccer may suffer if it does??

A HS Football forum would seem an odd place to vent old girl's sports' vendettas, but then I'm seldom surprised anymore?? Maybe the BB Girl's freshman track team ran up the score??

Seriously--Examples?? First off when has Brossart EVER had much of a chance to show off in football, and in basketball?? Give me a break?? Their '05 & '07 teams finished # 1 in NKY and NEVER ran up the score, even on occasions when it was hard not to. You're way, way off on this one!! This said, NCC will should name the score as there is a large distance between these programs as everyone knows--Hopefully the 'Breds handle this situation with class, and both teams come out intact. CovCath--Highlands by a large margin. Beechies and NCC used to be really big when they were in the same class, but now kind of an afterthought. Boone & Conner in the day was pretty big, as was SK-Dixie. Nothing close to CCH--Highlands though--District foes, multiple state championships where the winner of these two became the state favorite, etc.

Sounds like two baseball scores tonight with this one and Carroll County's 7-2 win vs. Bellevue?

Doesn't sound like Highlands was trying to run up the score, but sometimes its hard not to? After watching Brossart hang 41 on Pendleton tonight; it may be hard for Highlands or CCH not to come close to the century mark??

The bolded seems to be a common theme in most Campbell County threads, about the great successes of their middle school and freshmen teams; only to be followed by less than sterling to downright dreadful seasons at the Varsity levels. From "undefeated" to "one loss & only to Highlands" type 7th, 8th and freshmen teams, to the basketball "Dream Team" of a few years ago; its makes one wonder why athletes at such a large school, with wonderful facilities (soon to include football); don't get seem to get better and progress as rapidly as their peers as they mature?? I'm another that has no real dog in this fight, but it's frustrating to watch these kids seemingly underachieve after showing such promise early on? Another very consistent observation on these CC threads is the constant mention of parents, its always "the parents this" & "the parents that"?? While every school has its issues with overzealous & unrealistic, to downright meddling parents, are we to believe that its that much more prevalent at the County so as to affect the outcomes of seasons?? If so, then someone needs to get things under control quickly. I do think the somewhat revolving door nature of coaching staffs has had a detrimental effect on events at CC, and they seem to have success with the longer tenured coaches--Wrestling immediately comes to mind. Staffs don't seem to stay intact for more than a year or two, and when they change, its not a torch passing, but a major upheaval to an entirely new system. 6-A teams should not be "rebuilding" every year or two? I think Coach Lickert can succeed if given a chance, but then I thought that about the previous regime, which seemed to be turning the corner?? It will be interesting to follow, as it always has been; but the kids work hard and deserve better. In short, as one observer mentioned to me a few years ago after a CC loss--"Why do kids go to Campbell and never get any better"?? While that's obviously not completely true, and numerous examples to the contrary exist--It does seem that a ton of talent coming in, is producing very little results coming out in most cases??

Who would you like them to play, Trinity & Highlands every week? They've got some serious competition when they start the 2-A district play part of their schedule, and are honoring the multi-game contracts they signed the last couple of years. NCC wasn't built in a day, and neither will the BB football program. Let the kids enjoy a win or two against schools of their size; before heading into the reality check of district play? BB's always played an ambitious schedule in their sports' programs, and don't run from a challenge; you'll get your wish of some losses when they play NCC, HC, etc.

To use a somewhat local analogy, about the same number of MAC schools that routinely beat the top Big Ten teams?? What's the point--Different dynamics and different worlds.

What's up with the Jackson County to NKY connection?? Wasn't the Elliott kid that was the difference maker in Pendleton County's run in the 10th in the '05-'06 timeframe a JC "transfer"??

Interesting comment on a football game???? Also, I didn't realize that all the 7-8 other CC schools didn't play softball until recently?? Actually I think all the CC area schools started playing fast pitch about the same time; but that's for another thread. Congrats to the Mustangs and keep playing hard!!
