I'm for one class. When the difference in boys between the middle 6A school and the largest 6A school is larger than the difference between the the middle 6A school and a 3A school then it tells me either population doesn't matter or the 5A through 1A schools are selling out the 6A schools. I'll go with the former. So I say no more classes and now the small schools have to get through all these "underachieving" big schools. And of course if you don't beat these underachieving programs with 5 to 6 hundred more boys than you it means you are underachieving also.

I would personally be indifferent. UofL doesn't play that weekend so that makes it a little more feasable to many fans.

I wished they had been playing on Sat for a long time now. I've never been to a St X T game mostly because I'd rather watch my own team play. I wouldn't at all be suprised (depending on the weather) if the game doesn't draw enough to sell out.

Everyone will probably spit on me for even mentioning it, but I think it would be a lot more exciting for KY to have a bowl system. Oh the fun we would have then.

Football can be a very complicated game, and in the relatively short time period from the beginning of summer practice to game time it can be difficult to establish fundamentals at the same time as creating game plans, especially for new players. Many people want to say that because Ohio doesn't have it means we don't need it, but I would argue Ohio probably has a lot more going for football where they don't need it like we do. I can't say that this is a fact but I would assume Ohio has better prep leagues than KY not to mention Ohio has a few million more people in the state. Overall KY doesn't have as deep rooted football traditions as Ohio (where it does, I don't think Spring ball is quite as necessary). For any team changing coaches, offensive game plan, or making a key position change like qb. This game less season can be invaluable.

I was earlier wondering if anyone had "ever" had a schedule to match what will be Manual's next season. Now I see one. That should be exciting for the Rocks and fans. P.S. strongopinion- Manual (a KY school) did challenge them in three out of four games in the previous series that ended only two years ago.

Thanks for the link. Last season the Old Goats covered one of the scrimmages that I wasn't able to get to so it was really nice to listen in and get an idea of what I missed, they do a nice job.

I have not yet decided how I feel on this issue, but I have something I will throw into the discussion. I heard a radio commentary on this subject some months ago, and a lawyer or judge (not sure) was for it because she dealt with many truancy cases and found a great number of parents took the route of claiming to home school there children instead of actually sending them to class. Her argument was that in getting these kids "in the system" better supervision could be had over those kids whos parents took them out of school for the wrong reasons. I just wanted to add that point to the discussion.

The highest in KY for 6A is 1436, in Ohio terms that would be about 1077 and the smallest (700) would be about 525. Just for comparison.

I'm not sure which is the cut off school but I believe the number to be right at 700 for boys. CY4boy is the number of boys at the school. These are old 06-07 numbers but the newest I know saw on the khsaa site http://www.khsaa.org/report/2006and2007averanegschoolenrollmentbyenroll.pdf

Build a feeder program and pump as many kid into it it as possible. The more kids start early the more talent is revealed and more interest you build in the kids and in the community for that football program. I strongly believe that every school has Jims and Joes, but many of them are walking the halls and not running on the feild. I also believe that you can't just throw these kids on the feild if they have no interest regardless of how much talent they have. The difference in dynasties and not dynasties is that it is "cool" to play football there. If you get the kids involved early it will build there interest in football, then from there the sky is the limit.

I wouldn' get to worked up footballhd. I generally agree with your basic point, that there is all that much difference in the practice and workout schedules. It is natural to credit every success you have to yourself and every failure to something else, and the truth often lies in the middle somewhere.

I don't have the numbers on me but a large number of juniors and particularly sophomores contributed a great deal last season. Where they were young last year in linebacker, secondary, offensive line and TE, they will be experianced next year. What I like about that is that it gives a good situation for new skill players to succeed when the role playing positions are stout. The QB position will probably be filled by Derek Woodmore the leading WR last season, this will add the danger of the running elemnt from the QB spot. I'm not terribly concerned about RB, I'm confidant someone will step up to that role. I do hope we can find some WR's though.

In the last three years Boone Co has gone 25-13, those thirteen losses included Scott Co 3x, Henry Clay 2x, Campbell Co 2x, Madison Cent, Trinity, Cov Cath, Meade Co, Simon Kenton and Owensboro. In the same time period Manual has gone 26-10 those 10 losses from St X 6x, Brentwood Academy (TN), Trinity, Male, and Ballard. I'm of the opinion that Manual would have gone closer to 34-4 with Boone Co's schedule, and Boone Co would be closer to 20-16 with Manual's schedule.

While it is a bit of a gamble I think it is the right gamble for Manual to take. There is no denying that Manual has advantages over other schools in the state. They school compose of no reside area (other than all of Jefferson Co) completely based on a set of Magnet programs, with a student population that is very success driven. Unlike probably every other school in the area Manual can match, and in many cases exceed, academic success with X and T. Manual is arguably the best suited school to make a challenge to X and T. As it is right now I think the state of local (Louisville) football is in a very particular crossroads. X and T are skyrocketing and the most successful public program to challenge them, Male, is taking a turn in the wrong direction. I don't want to sound like I've already nailed the casket shut on Male, I do think Manual needs to take Male's place. If Manual (or any other public school) cannot challenge X or T I think we will see separation in the next ten years, and I don't see that being good at all. Manual needs to take steps like these to grow the program to BIG level (we don't want to lose any more Bernard Jackson's or Jordan Whitings out of our weight rooms). I believe they need to do it NOW, or it will be to late and there will be no catching X or T. So as we said before it is a gamble and they could quite possibly go 5-5 or worse (I predict 7-3), but I think it is a gamble they have to take.

Warren Central is a solid program that has produced some good football. They have both the potential and a respectable history of success to make it a great opportunity. I would rank a position at Warren Central as job in top 25% of those positions in KY.

Thanks Cardinals fan for keeping us updated on the game. Again I really look forward to this game, having an opponent at that level really excites the interest in next season. I hope it is well played series. I find it funny in reading the comments to the article that someone wrote Manual isn't on the same level as Male. Perhaps someone should inform him that Manual has beaten Male the last two years.

Manual may have arguably the most difficult schedule any team in KY has ever had. It has been said on this board that Manual is to play Highlands, Trinity, Central, Colerain OH, Male, in addition to district opponents St X and PRP. Has any other team played three of the states champions and a strong "out of state" national power in the same season? The bad news is that they lost a three year starter at QB in Joey Harness and lost a great deal on the skill positions and defensive line. The good news is that probable QB starter Derek Woodmore is a great athlete who showed his ability on the field by being the team's leading receiver last season. Of course that also means that the Crimsons need to find new receivers to catch the ball. Another good sign for the team was that a large number of Juniors and Soph contributed last season on the Varsity level. Given a year of offseason conditioning these younger players should be great position to start the season off strong with plenty of experiance behind them.

I didn't mean to imply you making up the coaching situation, I was stating that I had heard rumors that the school might not make it a but for a few more years. I had heard that through a coach of another team who had heard it from a Holy Cross coach of a different sport, so it wasn't first hand knowledge, but if cougar is correct than that isn't the issue.

This comes strictly from rumor land, but isn't the future of the school in doubt?

Do you know the full schedule for Highlands yet? If so what is it? It's been said on the board that you have Manual on your schedule, as a Manual fan I'm interested in what where you guys see this matchup in regards to you schedule as a whole.
