  1. I will say this, if this Highlands team really is as close to the 1998 team as you think then this will not be a close game. That team was really in a league of its own, I think any preseason comparison to them is very premature.
  2. Something additional to note about this match-up is that these are two of Kentucky's most prestigious academic institutions going against each other.
  3. As a matter of reference 2008 Manual vs Central W 34-28 2008 Highlands Vs Central W 28-0 2007 Manual vs Central W 20-13 2007 Highlands vs Central W 21-13 2006 Highlands Vs St X L 21-35 2006 Manual vs St X L 6-20 2006 Manual vs St X L 9-39 2005 Highlands vs St X L 0-45 2005 Manual vs St X L 7-17 2005 Manual vs St X L 18-33 While the past will have little to due with Fridays game, and it is quite possible Manual could be worse than usual while Highlands will be better than usual, do the programs appear to be so far apart that the four and five TD predictions seem appropriate? I'm not suggesting it is impossible for Highlands to lay the smack down on us but I won't at all be surprised if that isn't final outcome.
  4. Well the situation for Manual is as follows. Everyone will make the playoffs. Our route will have to go through St X. We haven't beaten St X since 1993. We've beaten everyone else. So we can continue scheduleing just the best teams in Louisville or try to get a little tougher. What we were doing wasn't getting us any closer to a championship, so even if we do go 3-9 and lose to St X in the second round we will have gotten just as far as we have by going 9-3. So at least we can say we tried something different.
  5. Coach Nichols's stated reason for the schedule was to keep the players attention. Big games tend to make the players more focused and feels he will get more out of practices and the like by having a big opponet every week. It was not because he has a great team this year.
  6. Seeing as Manual plays the top contenders for that title we should get a good reference point to consider that possibility.
  7. I figured someone had to start this thread. The facts as they stand are that Highlands blewout Male in a barrage of TD's and Manual couldn't manage a TD against Ballard in thier scrimmage. Doesn't sound to promising for my Crimsons. However two of the three TD's Ballard scored were from the defense off Manual turnovers and the last one was during the controlled part (teams got a number of plays not downs) so perhaps the Manual D may give my Crimsons a chance if the O can limit turnovers. To those coming from Highlands I want to reiterate that the stadium is not at the school but at 1230 East Burnett Street, 40217. There is parking at the stadium however I think they charge a small amount ($2 I think) to park in the stadium (on the baseball feild actually) and it can be a hassle getting in and out of there. Most regulars tend to park on the surrounding streets although these will fill up reletively quickly and some streets will be blocked from gameday parking. The moral of this story don't try to get here right on time because you will probably end up late. Get there early, stop by one of the neighborhoods hole in the walls, and have a cold one before walking to the stadium. I would assume this to be a well attended game. With this being the season opener (always a big draw), T and X not playing actual games (they may want to get a look at both HHS and Manual), and the fact that some UofL prospects like Roller will be playing could bring out a large contingent. Although there will be plenty of seats ( I believe Manual Stadium is the largest HS stadium in the state) the lines for tickets and other things could be difficult.
  8. I think it is cultural. The gay culture is remarkably more flamboyant than straight male cultures, this flamboyance and use of and mastery of exaggerating emotions plays well in the acting field. So in other words the ways they act in order to better fit in thier community, also serve them in becoming better actors.
  9. It is not state of the art, UofL has a great deal of scheduling issues with it as it is overbooked, and it is always sold out and could use more seats. I will say my only event in Rupp was not a basketball game but a concert. So I'm not talking about game experiance as I can't compare the two but I feel like the seating and viewing in Freedom Hall was superior to Rupp, which while big felt very vanilla in most respects I simply didn't feel like it was at all special.
  10. Last season Manual and Ballard faced off twice. The first game of the season was very close with Manual winning 36 to 26. Then due to the severe wind storm several games in the area were effected and both Manual and Ballard needed opponents so they decided to rematch with Ballard winning the second game 30-14. It would be very fair to say that the two programs are close to each other in terms of strength, I would give a slight edge to Manual in the last few years but they are close. Ballard is in Trinity's district and much like Manual they are most likley competeing for 2nd in thier district (which will be a challenge). Ballard is in there second season under a new coach (who I believe posts here on BGP) but it was reported that they are also filling a lot of holes. It isn't a tragedy that they lost to Ballard, but it is a major concern that they didn't score a TD. CardinalsFan I hate to say it, because I'm very happy for us to play a program like yours, but it might not be doing your program any favors by playing us this season. It could get ugly.
  11. Freedom Hall is better than Rupp, and we are replacing it.
  12. There was no thread but Manual did scrimmage Ballard. There is a podcast of it on Old Goats. Ballard won 21-3 I believe. Not a good sign for my Crimsons at all, I can't overstate that. While I didn't listen to all of it I heard enough to know that the offense is not gelling very well. Unless they see huge improvement real fast it will be a very ugly start for Manual.
  13. I saw a 28-6 halftime score for Moeller from another board, A. Is this accurate? B. How did the later half progress?
  14. Thanks Birdsfan. Knowing that your guys put one on Male like that doesn't bode to well for my Crimsons.
  15. Out of curiosity were Highlands TD's primarily from long plays or long drives?
  16. The very first thing I thought after I read that sentence is "which does "it" mean". But I also aknowledged that it doesn't really matter it all ended up in the same action. My post was to clarify the very specific point made by another as to the wording in the report.
  17. In the long run it really doesn't matter, because she said she would get an abortion with it, but the statement, as read, is ambiguous, (which was the point of my response to begin with) and the only clarification we have received is such that the payment was for insurance. I heard on the radio that an abortion cost was closer to $300 not $3000. Furthermore if the Sypher recordings are legitamate, Pitino was putting the choice in her hands. Should she have not chosen to have the abortion, is it at all likely he would have wanted her to have insurance? I could see why he might. So the moral of the story is if we had already had healthcare reform back then than we wouldn't be having this arguement.
  18. "Um, like I said before, you know, this is not something that, uh, you know, I can decide on. I think that the best thing in all scenarios is to go through with it, but that it has to be your call because it's the, it's uh, (inaudible)." http://fox41.com/Global/story.asp?S=10921650&nav=menu1404_1
  19. It actually has everything to with the subject for those passing judgment on the issue of abortion. If he doesn't think she is pregnant than in his mind he isn't funding her abortion. As if he would even have a say in that matter anyhow....
  20. You can choose what you believe but that is what his lawyer is saying. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4394257
  21. If you look at the situation through his eyes all of those aspects make perfect sense. You don't deal with an emotional issue by reverting to your inital reaction everytime the issue is brought up. For him this an issue of the past and personally he has moved forward I can completely understand his reference to timelines in this scenario.
  22. I totally disagree. This is the first time I've ever seen Rick Pitino nervous and I thought what he said was appropriate. Also remember this happened a long time ago and even for his family the seven months that have passed have allowed them time to sort the situation to where the wounds are somewhat less open. Were I to see tears in this press conference, I know they would be a disingenuous manufacture of an emotion he probably has in his rearveiw mirror.
  23. Your not getting my point really, he may have been doubtful about the existance of the pregnacy to begin with, as I would be. He asked her how much the insurance was, she said 3000 dollars, then he paid her. Did he pay her to be able to have the abortion or did he pay her to go away? We don't have that answer.
  24. No that isn't what it said. It said "She told him she was going to have an abortion, and stated she didn't have health insurance. He asked how much it would cost. She gave him the figure of $3,000, which he gave to her". "It" could be referring to health insurance or the abortion itself. And depending on the mindset of Pitino the money might have simply been "go away" money if he didn't believe her story.
  25. When I read a question like cch5432's "Why should everyone be forced to have healthcare?" I see actual intelligent honest debate that has no fear inspired slant. Perhaps the problem is the two of us are probably focusing to much on what our eyes are looking for. But I'm not seeing that policy discussion and disagreement are the drivers of the opposition movement. I see the "Obama wants to send you home with a pain pill to die", "Obama wants to pay for the illegal aliens", and "Obama wants to make your healthcare worse to pay for the nonworkers" and other bumper sticker type distorted truths as the plan of action. This is no different than the "No Blood for Oil" before the Iraq war in that it isn't intellegent argumentation, it is fearmongering.
