No Wonder X and T Dominate!

Featured Replies

The biggest reason they dominate is enrollment. These two schools do have great programs, very good coaches, and tremendous support from their communities, but the simple advantage of numbers is the biggest keys to their success year in and year out. It would be like Boone County or Simon Kenton playing 1A or 2A. Or HHS playing in 1A.

St.Xavier 1436 boys

Trinity 1361 boys

Simon Kenton 772 boys

Boone County 839 boys

I posted it in other threads. For SK to compare to Trinity in terms of enrollment you would need to combine them with Highlands and NewCath.

HHS 404 boys

Newcath 261 boys

It also shows you how amazing it is what HHS does year in and year out competing and beating schools larger than themselves.

That is what I am starting to think about their state titles.

Jealousy?

Anyone that thinks numbers are not a part of the formula, is fooling themselves.

Then why do X and T not dominate in basketball?

Obviously it does.

Basketball is a very different than football in this regard. One player can make all the difference on a basketball team.

I do think that the enrollment certainly helps (more players, more competition, higher level of output by players from practice to practice, etc), but I certainly don't see it as the primary factor.

IMO, this thread is nothing but an attempt to belittle Trinity and St. X's championships. Who cares if they've got a large number of boys at the school? St. X and Trinity MAKE more ATHLETES then anyone else... That's why they are so successful. Not because they have 52352345 boys that attend their schools.

It is the fact that they have such a large number of boys to choose from. You can't honestly think that they wouldn't miss a beat if their enrollment was cut in half. I think that they would still be at or at least near the top, but not nearly as far ahead of the rest as they are.

I still think they'd have the same number of championships that they have now. Which is that the original poster was targeting to begin with.

I think the number would be smaller but still more than the rest.

It is without a doubt the primary factor. Any program that could start with 100 freshman basically every year would compete in 6A in the state of Kentucky. Without the enrollment numbers X and T have they wouldn't have these types of numbers coming out for football.

That said it is not the numbers alone. Schools like Henderson and Dunbar are examples of that. Both HC and Dunbar have close to the same number of boys as X & T but can't compete.

I think the number would be smaller but still more than the rest.

I don't know who would be able to beat BOTH St. X and Trinity. IMO, if you beat one then you'll probably lose to the other. Unless of course they end up in the same bracket.

Either way, maybe they wouldn't have as much success in the regular season... But I just do see anyone competing with a "shortened" Trinity or X squad in the 6A/Old 4a.
