Here's what I don't understand...if you have room for trailers, don't you have room to build rooms? :confused:

 

Some of these kids may've been riding 15-20 minutes to get to school. They can just as easily build a newer better school, and possibly make it closer to where the kids live. Plus people on here act like the school, parents or students have a say in the matter. Aside from voting for people that they hope will look out for their interests, most don't have much say in the matter.

Numbers undoubtedly help. But there are more than 20 schools in Ky with over 1,000 boys enrolled and that should be plenty big enough to compete against T and X if it were numbers alone. Coaching, commitment from the "community", tradition that is handed down from one team to the next and makes other good players want to attend the school ... those all have an impact. But look at Newport Catholic. They only have about 250 boys yet this season they played and beat every 6A school in N. Ky. except Boone County (yes, NCC beat Simon Kenton). If it were numbers alone NCC shouldn't have a chance against those teams. Give X and T credit for building great programs. Instead of knocking them, learn from them and try to beat them. But you better be ready to work like you have never worked before because that is probably the biggest reason why their tradition continues...just like it does at all the best programs Highlands, NCC, Beechwood .... nobody outworks the kids and coaches at these schools.

DD, I agree size helps a lot and that is one of the issues the six class system is aimed at addressing. Furthermore, school systems like the Boone County schools have no beef here. If size is the solution then they need to quit building new high schools and expand the ones they have.

 

You can't cut your enrollment and then cry because someone else has more students than you do.

 

Size is a huge factor. Not the only reason but the biggest.

 

What type of football culture would be developing or have been developed if SK was playing 1A?

 

I have not seen anywhere that the Boone County School Board has a beef or where anyone was crying. I would guess,IMO, that they were more interested in finding or building better facilities for learning as opposed to trying to win championships.

 

I am simply pointing out that they have an advantage and it is a large hill to climb to knock them off.

 

And believe it or not my daughter attends and is a Senior at an all Catholic school in NKY.

 

I also have met and have had many conversations with a couple of their coaches, at Trinity. They are great and very helpful. They are always willing to share insights and thoughts on different concepts.

Ram no disrespect but you mean to tell me out of over 1400 boys T or X can field great football teams (about 30 keys players) but can't field a quality 12 man b-ball team. Sorry I am NOT buying it!!!

4 - Coaching...not only do we have skilled coaches (as do other programs), we have a bunch of them, which really helps to fine tune the teaching

5 - Numbers, sure they help, but mainly when we get banged up and such...they do help, but we were once very small and won....then we got bigger and won...

Then please explain why the largest public schools (Dunbar and Henderson County), who have male enrollments of over 1000, don't dominate.

 

And then explain how Highlands (who is playing 2 classes up I believe) is able to dominate their class. They are the smallest school in 5A.

Yes. BUT if it was the end all be all then Dunbar (the largest public school in the state) wouldn't be abysmal.

When I was in school 900 years ago the public schools in Jefferson County had larger male enrollments then Trinity and guess what, Trinity still won a bunch.

 

They lose a lot of athletes to schools such as Lex Cath & LCA, also they have too many coaching turnovers and a the support is nowhere near the same as say Trinity or X.

 

Anyone who thinks that enrollment is not one of the factors in their success is kidding themselves, although I don't think it is the major factor.

All of those things are awesome no doubt. I do understand that there would not be numbers coming out to play football if the team was not successful.

 

The numbers part helps out a lot in practice as much as anything.

Honestly AllTell you are exactly where I was the first time I read this thread. Sure size is a factor but it's not the end all, of all. Look at how well historically Danville has played schools from Louisville and Lexington. :thumb:

 

And let's not forget Beechwood. They are one of the smallest 1A schools and still dominate.

Rockmom and Guru, you are to be commended. You gave the exact same responses to this thread I would have.

 

If Trinity found a way to squeeze four new science labs and 8 more classrooms onto that tiny block in St. Matthews a couple years back, anyone can find a way to build what's necessary to accomodate more students.

Amen, our grounds are dramatically smaller than many a public school that has smaller enrollment.

The numbers are not the only reason they are good. But numbers to provide the reason that they belong in a class separate from nearly every other school in the state.

 

I personally don't want to see that. But it does make that arguement.
