The truth happens to be that while this would raise many people's ire, it would more likely than not, be a major creator of interest and debate in high school football. BGP would probably melt down over debates of which teams belong in which post season bowls. I think it would be MUCH more entertaining to follow high school's football if it were modeled after the BCS system.

I was unaware of this, I've never bothered to look it up but I was always told Seniors couldn't play JV. As far as I know ONLY StX doesn't play Jrs in JV games. They are also one of the few teams that has the total numbers to do this.

So long as teams are still in classes I don't see where there is significant difference between this and the districts. The districts are geographically aligned. There would seem to be a major reliance on the scoring system that factor in how to rank a team from 6A who beats a team from 1A. How would Jefferson Co be handled? There are more than enough teams for everyone in Louisville to fill up there schedule with local teams. If Trinity plays Male, St X, Manual, Ballard, PRP, Eastern, Central, Fern Creek, Butler, and CAL and goes 8-2 how would that compare to Southern playing Atherton, Waggener, Valley, J-Town, Western, Desales, Holy Cross, Doss, Fairdale, and Iroquois and goes 10-0. One schedule is significantly tougher than another. However if the playoffs were eliminated and there were no KY State champion, nor were there any classes. The conference that I would want Manual to play in would consist of the best teams in the Louisville area. If it were kept to 10 teams I would want Manual Male St X Trinity Central PRP Ballard Butler Eastern Fern Creek We could call it the Louisville Premier Conference.

1. 1998 Manual 7 Seneca 0- Lot of back story here, Seneca was a big rival at the time because the winner of that game would go to the playoffs. The previous year a teammate of ours, Quinton Hammond, was murdered on his way to school by another kid with the intent to steal his shoes. Quinton had a phrase he used when he played, he'd say "You can't hold me I'm bringing thunder". We were up 7-0 at the end of the fourth and Seneca was driving HARD and got about to the 30 yard line. Out of no where a weather system appear and a loud crack of thunder rolled through. At that moment the sideline erupted in chant "You can't hold me I'm bringing thunder". It wouldn't have mattered if we were playing the New England Patriots, no one was moving the football against our defense. To this day I still feel the chill in my bones remembering that moment, it was a moving moment that I don't think anyone involved will forget. 2. 2001 Manual 20 Male 13- Male and Manual have oldest rivalry in the state of KY and one of the oldest in all the country, prior to this meeting Manual hadn't recorded a victory against Male since 1988, and very few of the games were even close. Manual beat the Micheal Bush lead team out of shear will. When the game was over the team gathered on the hill of the end zone and sang the fight song, it was pretty awesome. 3. 2003 Manual 37 Trinity 36- This was the first a three game series of incredibly close and outstanding matches between Manual and T, this being the only one to make my list, because Manual won obviously. Manual scores at the end of the game and decides to take a two conversion to avoid overtime and made it. Incredible effort the Manual qb Austin Tiller who made gutsy last second throws the entire evening. A huge win for the team that came into the match 0-2 losing to Danville and Eastern the weeks prior, against the Brian Brohm lead Trinity. 4. 2007 Manual 34 Male 14- Manual had last beaten Male in 2001 and many of the match ups ended last second field goal wins by Male. In this one, played in Papa Johns Stadium, Manual dominated. 5. Not really, Manual is a more of an academic draw than an athletic draw. In other words the reason most kids are there is not football. When you account in factors distance from home (Manual is a long drive for most it's students, very few live near the school), academic difficulties, and other normal factors (cars jobs etc) they don't have the retaining power of an X or T that has a significantly stronger cultural connection with football. (I am curious as to what the actual rate of retaining players is at X and T. If you start at 100 and are down to 30 by senior year, it is still better than starting at 40 and ending at 12 even though the rate is the same. I don't know what the number are but I think this is something to consider) Manual also has no resides area, meaning it has no direct feeder program. Unless you are a brother of or a child of an alumni it is unlikely that you grow up thinking about playing for Manual. I think those sort of connections keep kids in a program through the tough years (little playing time, deep in the depth chart). I also think that it is tougher in a city high school to keep kids interested in high school activities simply for the fact that kids have so many options to do things outside of the school environment. In small counties and towns there isn't much to do other than high school activities. The difference that T and X have is that football is so important to that community that it is a still a very strong interest for so many of the players. There are no teams in Louisville that retain as well as X and T. And I don't think Manual has a "problem" other than normal circumstances. All I was saying is that the gap that Manual needs to overcome to beat these teams is to have consistency across the board. In order to do that they need to equate the experience and physical maturity of X in all positions.

I think what he is saying is that the other coaches would rather not anyone have success because it disproves any complaints they have against X and T. Its a low blow to the complaining coaches not necessarily the implication of a rift between coach Brown and anyone else.

When Manual can acquire and maintain a greater number of players to match St X's physical maturity on the field they will begin to beat them. To many cases of seniors vs sophomores make it very difficult to get over the hump. I think Manual has closed the gap on Male.

Let me put it this way. I truly don't believe there has been a team in Lexington better than Manual in the last few years. However with as many great performances that Manual has had, they have also had a few head scratchers and poor performances that make it difficult to say they are better without any games between them. I'll say this also. In the four game series Manual had with Trinity from 2003 to 2006, they gave Trinity competition far better than anything Lexington has come up with. Also Manual beat Male last season and with the exception of 2006 was within a TD in all games with Male in that same time period.

If your not aware, Shawnee is A. Not a 6A team. B. Nothing of a football threat.

I think they have the players but they need to play at a higher level. I think it would be in there interest to beef up there schedules with consistency and try to get as many match ups with top 10 teams outside of the region as possible, that will help prepare them for a shot at Trinity.

The only Louisville team post 2000 I didn't add was your win over Central in 2003, all the others are right there. I don't have scrimmage results nor do I really think them to be conclusive of anything.

And I'm sure you would be "competitive", but I doubt anyone in Louisville is bothered by any concern that Highlands might be the best team. Trinity isn't afraid of you I just doubt they have to beat you to prove anything.

I'll say this looking at the rosters it shocks me that the there were no lineman from the Louisville 6A schools on the east side. That would include schools like Trinity, Ballard, Eastern and such, I'll bet they don't make that mistake next year.

Looks like the East wasn't as dominate as some of the prognosticators made them out to be.

In the playoffs last year there was not an open seat on Manual's side. On top of that the standing views are bad.

Have they done anything about the visitors side seating?

That would normally be correct but Manual has NO official feeder schools. Every student there had to apply for a special program and go through a selective process. This answer relates with the other. They pick from all students who apply. One of the reasons that there is such a high contengent of former private school students is because Manual is very arguably the best school in Jefferson Co., or the state of KY for that matter. These former private school kids are usually well suited academically and come from families with a high degree of concern for there children's education, in other words they are good students, and compete on an equal level with students from public schools over spots at Manual. This is also not a new phenomenon. I've heard many groans from the private school crowd about Manual stealing there middle school athletes. The truth is this has been common place at Manual before they were a good football program(I myself played for the catholic middle schools), but now the Manual is achieving success, it is being scrutinized by the private schools. I can't speak to any specific cases, because there could be any number of reasons this student transferred. Most transfers into Manual that I knew of were simply a case of the student not liking atmosphere of the school they left. While I was there no one I knew transferred TO Manual (I knew more than a handful that transferred out of) for athletic reasons, I'm not naive enough to say that doesn't happen though. He's gone. Why is this appalling? The gap between the the two parochial schools and the rest of 6A is far bigger than the gap between any other class. The difference between Dunbar (the largest public school in 6A) and St X the marginally smaller private school is that St X has 240 more boys. The difference between the smallest and the largest of each other class is 1A=200 2A=90 3A=80 4A=90 5A=150 and for 6A=780. The fact is that per the class system St X and T don't numerically belong in 6A they belong in a bigger nonexistent class. I don't think it is appalling that some coaches are asking for special circumstances.

I agree it would make perfect sense for them to switch Seneca and Shelby Co, however Shelby Co is better off then they were before.
