Individual changes from the 2007 and 2008 alignment made for 2009 and 2010 were:

Class 1A: Walton-Verona placed in District 1-3; Berea placed in District 1-5; Evarts and Cumberland deleted

from District 1-7 (due to consolidation into Harlan County)

Class 2A: no changes

Class 3A: Cawood deleted from District 3-6 (due to consolidation into Harlan County); Fleming County moved

from District 3-6 to 3-7; Magoffin County moved from District 3-8 to 3-6

Class 4A: no changes

Class 5A: Bullitt Central moved to District 5-3; Cooper added to District 5-5; Bryan Station moved to Class 6A

Class 6A: Bullitt Central moved to Class 5A District 5-3; Shelby County moved to District 6-4 from District 6-8;

I'm not a Fort Knox supporter by any means, but they really need to move the Eagles out of that district with Bardstown and Danville.

Not sure why Campbellsville is in the east when they are hour from Louisville. They could get to Frankfort faster than WIlliamsburg. Makes no sense.

 

Also makes no since why Paris and Lex. Christian wouldn't play in the north. It is closer than Fairview.

 

Doesn't look like any changes occurred in Class A other than the additions.

I'm not a Fort Knox supporter by any means, but they really need to move the Eagles out of that district with Bardstown and Danville.

I don't know why they are in the same district anyway....they only have around 390 students. How many does it take to be in 1A?

I don't know why North Laurel isn't moved to District 7 though. They have to be closer to all those teams than Harlan County and probably Letcher, too.

My guess is that the only "official" input the KHSAA is interested is receiving is from the schools. So unless you are a super, principal, AD or head football coach, you really won't be able to have any input unless you provide it via the school you support.

 

And keep in mind that there is no alignment that will make one hundred percent of the schools (and certainly not 100% of the fans) happy. Its just not possible.

I agree. I can remember, in the 4 class system, when some districts had 8 and others only had four...that must have been tough to go 6-4 and not make the playoffs and team could go 0-10 and make it based on district numbers. Not sure if we can get away from that with many schools lumped together but so far from another possible district.

 

The Shelby Co. move makes NO sense. How do you put them in that district and not with Ballard and company???

In talking to Coach Borchers for Cooper, I thought he said they would be a 6A school for football. Guess not. 5A with CovCath, Dixie, Highlands, Holmes & Scott.

I don't understand why they just don't start in 5A as there are only 5 teams in the district. However, maybe it had something to do with the 5A schools not being able to drop a game, and the 6A schools could.

Just from looking at it, I would say you hit the nail on the head. Remember that, at least for our school, 2008 is the second year of a contract cycle and working people into a schedule seemed better in 6A with the other Boone County schools. Likely in the future, I can see B, C, R and Cooper all being in the second largest group (not the top group). That would make it very interesting.

Personally, with diesel at over $4 a gallon for school busses, six in one to help with travel seems to be much smarter. I just wish there was a way to fix one district in 5A with absurd travel.

I think Kissinger made a good point. From my review of the districts (admittedly without knowledge of the geography involved in all the districts), it looks as if you tried to move one of the teams in the 6 team districts into a 4 team district to make it a 5 team district, it would result in a lot more travel (not just for the one school moved but also the teams in the district that it would be joining because every other year, they'd have to come visit). And travel costs big bucks.
