KHSAA Football draft alignment for 2009 and 2010:

Featured Replies

1. If the school populations, which do change, have not been taken into account before this layout, then this layout of classes and districts will change. After all isn’t that the reason for different classes?

2. The issue of cost is being overplayed in my opinion. If cost really is a factor, then what about the non district games? In many cases teams travel farther to play non district schedules. The district schedule is only 4 or 5 games meaning 6 or 7 games are non district until the playoffs. If cost is such an issue, then non district scheduling must be addressed. I use for my example Hopkinsville who could not schedule local teams (for various reasons I will not mention). Last year Hopkinsville had to drive to Highlands (6 hours) and Lincoln Co. (5 hours) to fill out their schedule. This year Hoptown travels to Mercer Co. (5 hours) and Warren Central (2.5 hours, which is not bad but there many more teams a lot closer).

3. This may only be an issue with Western Ky teams, but I bet when ALL sports are looked at there is a lot of unnecessary travel out of district.

I never said or implied any team in NKY requested a move.

Does my opinion not matter if I support say Scott, Holmes, or Dixie.

I am not a parent of, fan of,or alumini of, any NKY school I respect the accomplishments of schools like Beechwood, Highlands, NCC, and I love High school sports, and I like rooting for underdogs. I miss the Kentucky Post because they made following NKY high schools easier to follow.

I just don't think anyone should be able to move up, and last time I checked I am entitled to my opinion no matter who I support. I just don't look at the world as if you question anything these programs do or get you are wrong.

My opinion is not an attack on those who want to move but how about on a flawed system that doesn't let everyone move just the ones they deem acceptable. Lloyd and Newport had to travel for years did you take up their cause as well?

As to your first comment, I was asking for clarification. Thank you for such.

As for your second comment, I never said that a supporter of those schools couldn't have an opinion or that their opinion wouldn't matter. It does help understand a poster's "motivation" if you know what school they support. Much like it helps understand a critical post against McCain if you know that the poster has endorsed Obama. Many people know that I support Highlands and thus have a clear understanding as to why I feel the way I do. No need to get defensive as I wasn't intending to be offensive. Just trying to understand where posters are "coming from" and it helps me understand their opinions.

As to missing the Post, I agree with you although I think Ryan is doing a pretty good job of improving Enquirer coverage and hopes to do more this year.

Yes you are entitled to your opinion regardless of whom you support and I don't recall saying to the contrary.

As for taking up for Lloyd's and Newport's cause since they had to travel far, if they had requested to move up and been denied (at a time the KHSAA had even permitted move ups) I surely would have taken up their cause. But I don't think that was the case.

Finally while the system may be flawed as you assert, but from what I know of the decisions made by the KHSAA in re the requests for move ups, those that were approved had solid geographical reasons for approval. Those that were denied, did not. Some of the requests were based on competitive reasons (the requests specifically stated such) and those were denied automatically.

I'm curious to know which requests for a move up were, in your opinion, improperly denied? If you can tell me that, I'll see if I can find out the rationale for the KHSAA's decision.

This is my contention as well. I know that some teams are traveling a good distance for district games. I also know that there are teams that are traveling good distances, sometimes further then their district games, for non district games. And, no, I it is not just a Western thing, teams are doing it around the state.

Like I said before, and I don't think anyone has disputed the fact, that many Kentucky baseball teams drove to Florida for baseball games, and many Kentucky basketball teams drove far to be in holiday tournaments. And, for as long as I have been associated with Kentucky High School Football (1988), football teams have drove far for football games.

Warren Central (2.5 hours, which is not bad but there many more teams a lot closer).

You must be traveling with an Amish family by horse and buggy if it takes Hopkinsville 2.5 hours to get to Warren Central. It's about 65 miles from Hopkinsville to Bowling Green.

Like I said I am only familiar with the NKY schools that wanted to move, so can you tell me which of these schools request was accepted and which ones were denied.

Casey County- regional move

East Jessamine- Wanted to go to 5A and they wanted to pick the district

Fleming County - region move

Green County - Up to 3a district 2

Knott County Central - Up in 3A district 6

Madisonville North Hopkins - up to re-establish rivalries

McLean County - play up 3A district 1 or 2

Ohio County - Regional Move

Russelville - Geographic concerns

Somerset

Southern - regional move

Washington County

West Jessamine

Off the top of my head no, but I'll look into it and see what I can find out.

Picky, picky. :irked:OK. It takes me an hour and a half, in my car, to get to Bowling Green from Hoptown. But then again, I don't drive a twinky school bus.

I would say that the Amish family would make similar time to most school buses. My son's 6th grade class went on a field trip to the capital the other day. He was gone two hours, from Raceland, and called me and said he was almost to Morehead.

For those that do not know, Raceland to Morehead is normally one hour, and Raceland to Frankfort is normally three hours.

There again I have made my point that travel is not a main concern. A 6th grade field trip on charter buses.

I will tell you that it is my understanding from a reliable KHSAA person that as for the Grant Co getting displaced comment and their increase mileage due due to the move, Grant Co (and I believe I was told it was their super) was asked about their possible move and they were for it. So with that "blessing" CovCath and Highlands were moved into 5A and Grant Co moved to another 5A district. If Grant Co had said "no" to the move, I'm told that something else would have had to be done or else a 6 team district created, which would not have been all that unusual. I believe under the proposed alignment, there are approx. 8 districts with 6 teams.

And are you saying that someone else from N. Ky requested a move up but was denied? If so, whom?

And again, its my understanding that the KHSAA didn't worry about motives. They only worried about mileage. Since Grant Co was okay with the additional mileage and the move, they were moved. Perhaps in hindsight, the KHSAA shouldn't have moved Grant and just created a 6 team district in N. Ky.

For purposes of disclosure, would the posters advocating the position that teams should not be able to be move up mind telling us which schools they support/follow/have sons playing football. With a little work, I'm sure we could search posts and be able to make that determination, but I'd appreciate the posters just telling us to save us time.

I'm a CovCath fan. Looking from the Scott/Dixie/Holmes perspective, I think any misgivings about letting teams play up can be easily understood. Just as from the Highlands perspective it could be seen as questionable for larger schools to have those misgivings.

I understand that.

Anyway, I'm done with this thread. I've said my piece and there's nothing more I can add.

My understanding was that FC's move to the Breathitt/Cawood district last year was at FC's request. There was some speculation that they requested the move in hopes of earning a home playoff game; which was worth the additional travel.

I agree with you, but the other side of the coin is schools moving up to avoid being beat by teams in their class. Somerset and Madisonville come to mind.

I agree--everyone should have to play in the appropriate class.

What does everyone think about CLASS A if it looked like this?

D-1-1 Ballard Memorial, Crittenden County, Fulton City, Fulton County, Mayfield

D-2-1- Beth Haven, Bethlehem, Caverna Campbellsville

D-31Beechwood, Bracken, Bishop Brossart, Dayton, Ludlow, Walton-Verna

D-4-1 Eminence, Trimble, Gallatin, Kentucky Country Day, Lou. Holy Cross

D-5-1 Berea, LCA, Nicholas, Paris, Frankfort

D-6-1 Clinton, Lynn Camp, Williamsburg, Harlan, Hazard

D-7-1 Raceland, Fairview, Pineville, Jenkins

District-1-8- Allen Central, Betsy Layne, Paintsville, Phelps, Pikeville, South Floyd

Forgot Bellevue in this district.

In looking at Class A District 3 and 4 it seems to me that it would have made far more sense to put Walton-Verona in District 4 with the likes of Gallatin Cty, Trimble Cty etc. These schools are already rivals in Region 8 basketball so it only seems logical to me..

Bracken is going to pass every team in District 3 and drive a minimun of 60 miles just to play their District foes in District 4.. but what do I know..lol

Every single team in Bracken County's district is a 3 hour round trip for Bracken County, by putting them in District 3, it at least knocks an hour off of the round trip. Would switch Walton-Verona with Bracken County
