Oldham County 78 John Hardin 55

Recommended Posts

On senior night, Oldham blitzed John Hardin to stake out a 43-23 halftime lead, then kind of cruised during the first half of the third quarter, failing to get a field goal until about 3 1/2 minutes left in the third.

But John Hardin was unable to make any real headway even while Oldham went cold for 4 1/2 minutes....never got the 20 point halftime deficit under 16.

Oldham with nearly all subs in the fourth period as they worked their five seniors out one at a time, with Maddie Clark coming out last.

25 turnovers doomed JH (Oldham had only 9 heading into the fourth period, and finished with 13.

Both teams assessed a lot of fouls; JH had two players foul out, Graham and Tidwell.

The pick and roll worked for Oldham County throughout the ballgame. The Lady Colonels' "twin towers" of Lakynn Goldsmith and Aliyah Swanson repeatedly scored on the play, particularly Goldsmith, who finished with 16 points.

Although the total number of fouls called was nearly dead even, John Hardin had their fouls concentrated on a few individuals. As a result, Tidwell had three fouls by halftime and ultimately fouled out, as did Graham. That meant the two leading scorers for JHHS were handcuffed.

Lady Bulldogs' Tidwell is going to be special. The 8th grader is long / lanky, and very athletic, and she already leads the Lady Bulldogs in scoring and rebounding. She shoots well, and moves well. Given a little more varsity experience and she's going to be one of the Fifth Region's elite.

Also impressed with the play of Kristeen Kettlehake off the bench for JH; she certainly didn't play like a player who averages less than two points a game. Scored 6 points and won an awful lot of "hustle" battles.

Oldham County did a great job on the glass; four players with 5 or more rebounds.

Lakynn Goldsmith had perhaps one of, if not the, finest game of her career on senior night with 16 points 6 rebounds. The big senior really ran the floor with abandon, and scored at least three layups while leading the fastbreak.

Also very impressed by Oldham County's Sydney Cheatham. Normally not a big scorer, Cheatham had 11 points tonight in a variety of ways. Great hustle and strong defense.

Maddie Clark with 25 points to lead Oldham County.

Oldham improves to 18-11; John Hardin falls to 8-18.
