article 10th Region Week 10 Review: Campbell, Mason and Montgomery Post Big Wins

1. Bourbon County (21-5) - The Colonels picked up a big 75-63 victory over George Rogers Clark and also knocked off Paris 81-73. That means they finished in a tie in the district with George Rogers Clark, and that the 40th district top seed will be decided by a coin flip. The winner of the coin flip will face Paris and the loser has to play Montgomery County. Against the Cardinals, the Colonels found themselves in a hole early but battled back behind a 29 performance from star Amirion Joyce. Brycen Collins chipped in 20 points and also some game changing plays on defense. Poor three point shooting (2 of 20) doomed the Colonels in a 72-65 loss to Campbell County.

2. George Rogers Clark (18-7) - The Cardinals had their roughest week of the season, dropping road games to Bourbon County (75-63) and Mason County (60-53). The Cardinals got off to a hot start against Bourbon County but did not have an answer once the Colonels turned up their pressure defense. Jerone Morton had 17 points against Bourbon County and 23 points and 9 boards against Mason County. Lincoln Bush had 16 points and 22 rebounds against the Colonels.

3. Bishop Brossart (18-4) - The Mustangs won both of their 10th region games last week, defeating Augusta (50-47) and Pendleton County (66-48). The lost to Newport Central Catholic (76-73). Three of the Mustangs four losses have come to 9th region teams. Bishop Brossart is the only 10th region team that is undefeated (10-0) in region play. However, they have not played George Rogers Clark nor Bourbon County.

4. Robertson County (18-5) - The Black Devils picked up victories over Pendleton County (76-63) and Fleming County (74-43) to bring their winning streak to 5 games. Sophomore Justin Becker had 35 points and 11 boards in the win over the Wildcats.

5. Montgomery County (15-11) - The Indians won all three games last week, including a 57-49 road win over Mason County, their most impressive win this season. The Indians also defeated Augusta 58-48 and Paris 61-50. Sophomore Hagan Harrison and junior Rickey Lovette continue to be the Indian's go-to players.

6. Mason County (13-9) - The Royals dropped a home game to Montgomery County (57-49) but bounced back in a big way to defeat George Rogers Clark (60-53).

The Royals won despite having several players out due to injury or illness. Xylon Frey and Alex Schalch each had big games.

7. Campbell County (12-12) - Dane Hegyi and Jordan Gross each scored 18 points and pulled down double digit rebounds, and Garrett Beiting scored 19 to lead the Camels to a 72-65 win over Bourbon County. Despite the big victory, the Camels remain #7 because the two teams in front of them also had impressive victories last week.

8. Paris (8-15) - The Greyhounds continue to improve. After being blown out by Montgomery County and Bourbon County earlier in the season, they were much more competitive last week. They lost to the Indians by only 11 and the Colonels by only 8, and picked up victory over Model to finish 1-2 last week. Ricqiece Washington had 17 points and Caleb Johnson had 15 points and 8 rebounds in the loss to the Indians. Jamaun Clark had 20 points and 9 rebounds in the loss to the Colonels.

9. Pendleton County (11-13) - The Wildcats have achieved their highest ranking of the season. They lost to Robertson County (76-63) and Bishop Brossart (66-48), but picked up a nice 5 point win over Bracken County, avenging a loss to the Polar Bears that happened early in the season. Tredyn Thomas had an astounding 42 points and 20 rebounds, for the Wildcats in the win over Bracken County. He shot 23 free throws in that contest. Next week they have tough games coming up against Campbell County and Montgomery County.

10. Calvary Christian (12-11) - Cross Dugan had 29 points, Noah Herald pulled down 12 rebounds, and the Crusaders pulled off an big 69-49 win over Augusta. Calvary Christian lost to Ludlow (65-59) earlier in the week.

11. Augusta (12-13) - The Panthers started off the week by almost pulling a nice upset over Bishop Brossart, only to lose by 3 points. Then they lost to Montgomery County (58-48), and Calvary Christian (69-49). They seem to be trending in the wrong direction.

12. Bracken County (10-15) - The Polar Bears split home games last week, beating Harrison County (80-71) and falling to Pendleton County (70-65). 8th grader Blake Reed continues to put up big numbers, pouring in 23 points per game on the season.

13. Scott (4-18) - The Eagles continue to struggle, dropping games to Newport Central Catholic (85-62) and Conner (78-54). Scott hosts Augusta next week. The Eagles are young and could bounce back next season.

14. Harrison County (4-20) - The Thoroughbreds lost to Bracken County (80-71) and Madison Central (84-48), but bounced back in a 71-47 blowout victory over Fleming County.

15. Nicholas County (4-20) - The Bluejackets lost to Berea (79-61) and Morgan County (81-73). They have the lowest RPI in the region.

16. St. Patrick (5-18) - The Saints dropped all 3 games last week. They have lost 7 in row and remain winless against 10th region competition.

Games of the Week

Madison Southern at George Rogers Clark - Tuesday, February 11 7:30 p.m. - The first game in the Cardinal's beautiful new 4,200 seat gym.

Knott County Central at George Rogers Clark - Friday February 14 7:30 p.m. - The Patriots are one of the top teams in the 14th region.

Robertson County at Campbell County - This is a makeup game, not sure of the details yet.

Wow, no movement for Campbell County, does someone else have my thought process?

Robertson County at Campbell County is slated for Saturday. Time has yet to be determined, according to Coach Kelsch.

Mason is playing like a top three team at this point, imo. I can't argue the ranking because they have nine losses. But at this point in time I wouldn't want to draw them in the upcoming tournaments. Winning the region may be a stretch but I could see them playing for the title.
