Wiltjer just needs to get stronger and play with confidence.

Sometimes he forces his shot too much and he can get himself into trouble when he does so.

The schedule gets significantly tougher this point forward.

Think about this, UK could have been blanked in the second half and they would have still went to OT>

Next week provides the first real tests in a long while, including what I consider a possible, even probable loss at Vandy. I just don't trust that place. Florida at Rupp may be their biggest threat at home this year.

UK is starting to get that flow and chemistry thing together that I talked about earlier. That is the reason why they were my least favorite Coach Cal team, but they are starting to get it now and its been very fun to watch!

The one thing I honestly would like to see happen this month is to have games that come down to the final minute. Games where we might actually be losing in the last minute. Even the Indiana game we were winning that last minute, it took a shot at the buzzer to lose. I want to see how this team responds when they are down in that last minute and how they do on offense then. Last year we knew the man was going to be Knight. This year we have a team where the open guy should take the shot, or would someone try to do to much in that situation and force something? I want this team to actually be in that situation once or twice before the tournament comes along. I think all those close games last year, even the losses really helped the team come tournament time.

Great crowd for a road game, if you want to call it a road game, with more than half of the arena being UK fans, lol.

I am disappointed in how Cal treated Polson at the end of the game, sitting that long waiting to get in with all of your timeouts? And before someone says he should be grateful to be on the team or living every UK fans dream, It's not like it was a close game or that he sent him to the table with a few seconds left. Timeout, travel on purpose, something!

UK fans were yelling at Cal to get him in, to call a TO. As someone said in the game thread, Wall used to get Krebs in the game at times. One day, it will come back to haunt Cal.

I was just on the "darkside/wildwest" board reading about this topic, and it reminded why I hate that place so much, NO CLASS from the A LOT of their people!

Yes he has proven that he doesn't suck. The only thing this proven is when this fan base gets spoiled, they consider anything that is not "GREAT" to suck. It was the same thing when Pitino spoiled us UK fans, and people even during the title year considered Tubby as a coach that sucked. Coach Cal has now spoiled us with great players who can be some of the best players in the nation starting as freshman. So when we see a freshman who does not step in right away and dominate, people say he sucks. It is not the player, its the fans who have become spoiled. He is a good player, just now a great player like we have become use to. He is the normal freshman with talent who will have good moments, but also tough moments. Not to mention playing the few minutes that he does, is not going to help him stop having freshman mistakes. He is good he just plays on the most talented team in the country though, so his game obviously is not as good as the rest. However he is a far way away from sucks.

Well said futurecoach.

With Wiltjer and Vargas needing the minutes and Davis/Jones/Kidd-Gilcrest needing not to get injured, I do not get why Cal doesn't go to the bench earlier. Davis' last play could have gone very wrong (finger, wrist, elbow...)

Help me understand why Cal left a sub at the score's table from 4+ minutes until the end without calling a timeout to get him in the game. That's got me really scratching my head. The kids that practice hard day in and day out deserve a chance to see the floor once in awhile.

Let me get this straight. Your beating the home team to death and folks are upset because the visiting coach didn't call a timeout to get subs in...really ? :idunno:

I was at the game, and the atmosphere was great. The restaurants and bars around the arena were packed with blue before the game. I don't know how much was heard on TV, but there were several "Go Big Blue" chants throughout the game. The USC fans tried to "boo" us out, but didn't have enough people to do it. There was even a Polson chant right before Cal sent him to the scorers table.

Great game to watch. Hopefully they'll keep rolling.

YES!
Nice to see all the Wiltjer haters out tonight when the Cats are up by 20 plus in the 1st half. He has struggled a lot this year, but the kid can play. Give him a full season in the weight room in the off season, and he'll be a very good player the next 3 years. Gotta love the UK fans that refuse to give a kid a chance.

He's one of my favoite Cats. He just needs to relax and quit thinking so much. I bet he's one of their best shooters in practice, he just needs to bring it to the game. Stop hesitating, catch and shoot.

One funny moment (to me anyway) in the game was when a South Carolina player had the ball close to the basket and Davis was hovering over him. He gave a head fake, then another, then two more, and finally decided to throw the ball back to a teammate. Davis wouldn't leave his feet and the Gamecocker wanted no part of him. scared.gif

Because it means more to get the game over with on the opponent's court. The salt was already poured being up by 40. You do not extend the game even more than you have to. It was a fluke a whistle was not blown under the 4 minute mark.

As if you needed more comparision, this is the 3rd straight SEC game UK has won by 20+. Last time that happened was 96...

I'm with EZ on this one. Quick timeout. Tell the officials you're just getting a sub in and move on with the game. SC would not have had a problem with it. Reward the kid.
