Madison Central 78 Trinity 77

That's pretty interesting. I never knew that people in Louisville felt that way about treatment outside of Louisville. I hate to hear that but obviously the way this game ended adds validity for those who feel that way. I was there was something I could do to change it.

I would say it is the overwhelming sentiment in Louisville, especially in the Sweet 16. As far as the refs go, there was an article in Sports Illustrated a couple of months ago and it talked about home field advantage. The authors concluded that the refs are human (like everyone else) and they will subconsciously favor the home team, and that is the main reason for the "home field advantage." When a Louisville ("big city") team plays out in the state, supposedly neutral site or not, most fans in attendance want them to get beat. Perhaps refs can sense this. To counter this, the Louisville team could try to bring more fans and thus lessen the home fan disparity.

After watching the play, you are correct. There was a foul; however, it was a foul on the Madison Central player. Dieudonne clearly has inside position on the ball and is backing up to make the interception when the Madison Central player jumps over his back.

Horrible way to steal a game from a team!

The reality is- referees should NEVER decide a game and they do and one team gets screwed and in this case it was Trinity!

However, I still have to give Madison Central credit for a great game.

I just watched the ytube replay and I have to respectfully disagree with you on this loubballfan. The MC player was throwing the ball in not shooting the ball. IMO the Trinity player backed into the MC player with two hands on him holding him down keeping him from elevating. It was clearly poor defense of the inbounds lob and in my opinion clearly a foul. The Trinity player should have tried to deflect the pass as opposed to initiating contact as if he was blocking the MC player out.

Just my opinion:

In the regular season, I think the part about Louisville schools playing out in the state may vary according to the area, and is something that happens to everyone around the state who goes out of region (and/or get different officials than those from their home association).

In the postseason, I think things can happen differently according to factors such as whose playing, officiating, attending, supported-by-fans-at-large in a given year. Here, each year is different in the big picture because there's a random order for which regions draw one another, teams advancing have their officials eliminated, etc. that gets very difficult to predict or quantify, especially when trying to say that Event A occurred to Team B on Date C because of Person D performing Act E. However, I will agree that there are post season games where I felt one team was purposefully wronged. These are limited to only a few incidents (four that stand out in my mind immediately) throughout years of watching though.

As for an example of an incident where I thought a Louisville school has gotten a favorable call (and a moot didn't make a difference in the game's outcome): 2009 - Central vs. Holmes in the state finals, Central (I'm thinking Wilson) hits a buzzer-beater (I'm thinking at the end of the first OT, but could have been a separate overtime or at the end of regulation) that had an opportunity to be waved off. From my perspective, I didn't think the shot got off in time (and it definitely could be proven otherwise with video, etc. that I'm wrong), but it was nonetheless counted and the game continued. The point I'm trying to make with this one is that it was on the biggest stage, and there was a chance that a Louisville school got (the opportunity to be robbed, but wasn't. Again, to reiterate, this DEFINITELY isn't one of the bad games that I referred to in the paragraph above. My point is that, if given the opportunity, Louisville schools aren't automatically ripped because of where they happen to be from. Sometimes, they can even be the beneficiary of some very questionable officiating (see PRP vs. Hazard in the state semi-finals in 1986... I'm thinking there's been some video commentary on the controversy, KET maybe(?).

The point I was trying to make with all this:

There's an element of luck involved because no one can influence the balls coming out in the order they do.

There are games where I am not ashamed to say that I think there were some things heavily influencing an event that has benefitted one team over another, but I'd qualify it by saying that these types of examples are very rare, and it seems that this has applied to everyone involved at one time or another (no matter where they are from). However, when experiencing one of the very rare cases, I definitely feel a sense of disappointment (especially for the team that its happening to).

Honestly, in the overall scheme of things, had Trinity taken care of things when they had the opportunity, the call (right or wrong) would have made no difference. Learn from it and move on. GO ROCKS!

Agree.

Can you imagine how nuts Feldhouse would have gone had that call gone against Madison Central?

:scared:

Is that the general feeling in Louisville?

Not only a general feeling but an accurate statement if you look back over the years. Lots of questionable calls in the 30 or so Sweet 16 years I have been watching against Louisville teams. And I just go as a fan and didn't live in Louisville for many of those years.

As one wily old veteran coach who won a state title once told a group I was in where he was speaking, "I told my boys we have to be 15 points better in every game because we know we're going to get the shaft when we get to the state tournament."

Personally, I would've let the final call go and let the game be decided in overtime. Technically, it was probably a foul but in that situation, I let it go. JMO.

Would have been worth the price of admission!!

Why would officials go against Louisville teams in the state tourney? Officials don't care who plays or wins in the state tourney.....only officials that sometimes don't get to call the final four games are those from Louisville because their home regional teams are usually playing!! Give me a break on crying about officials being against Louisville teams.....that is ridiculous to say the least!!

The foul called with 5 seconds remaining should have been a no-call. I didn't see a foul on the Trinity player anymore than a foul on the Madison Central player. Let it go.

The last foul called most definitely should have been a no-call. Not enough there to whistle a foul. In most games that would've had to have been a tackle for a foul to have been called in that situation. Let the players decide the game.

And... I understand that if Trinity had hit their free throws, or not taken a bad 3 shot late in the game, that they would not have been in this predictament. But that's still no excuse for poor decisions by officials.

Since you are one, and we are many....AND you're not from Louisville, I will disregard your post as invalid.

You have got to be kidding me. So what you are saying is that the only way it should have been a foul is if there was a tackle. What if the defender grabs an arm, or holds the other player's jersey? Should the play have been a foul at the end of the first quarter and not at the end of the game? I agree that it is a shame that with so little time on the clock a foul call decides the game (although the kid did have to make the pressure free throw). But IMO the Trinity player defended the inbounds pass very poorly and it was a foul.

Do what you feel is best..you have a great team and support your team instead of making excuses for them....just hurting your team IMO...still stick behind my opinion that state tourney officials definitely don't care who wins or loses the games, they are just happy to be there..
