That was one of the most fun games to watch in a while. At least the start and the finish. Of course I'm not a NO fan.

Called this in the other thread about Super Bowl winners, and I stand by it that they are legitimate Super Bowl contenders. This team doesn't pretend. They made a member of the "Elite 3 Pocket QBs" look dumbfounded for I would argue 3/4's of the game. If it wasn't for two 45-60 yard YAC, this wouldn't have even been a game.

How many games has Drew Brees won on the road in the playoffs? It's amazing how different of a team they are in the dome, and on the road. At home they really are the best team in football.

 

In all honesty, he probably hasn't played too many playoff road games, but I get your point. The best shot anyone has to beat the Saints is to play them at home. At night, in New Orleans it is tough to beat the Saints.

 

I think the one thing that this shows is that coaching does really play a BIG PART in how a QB will do. I used that argument many times during our Palmer debates, and people really sold it short on how much coaching really does play in it. People like Brees, and Rodgers have great offensive minds for their head coach. Alex Smith has had 7 OC's in his time as a QB, and the one other good year he had was with Norv Turner. Now he has Jim Harbaugh who definitely knows the QB spot obviously, and he is showing what he can do with the right coaching. Coaching plays a huge part in a player reaching its potential especially at QB. So I know I am happy for Alex Smith just like you are. He has had to deal with a lot of crap, especially considering the things he went through learning new offenses every year.

Seriously though, with what Harbaugh did at Stanford and now with San Fran doesn't he have to be considered one of the best coaches going? What would he do with a team as full of talent as the Packers? Would that even be fair?

Vernon Davis is a great story. Singleterry may have been a terrible coach but he did a lot of VD. I love seeing that guy do well.

I thought it was all about the pressure. It wasn't that they had Brees "dumbfounded". If he had time to throw, he picked them apart like he does everyone else. It was all about incredible pressure on the QB.

 

The challenge versus Green Bay (if GB wins) will be Rodgers tucking the ball and running. Rodgers can hurt you that way as well. Outside the rushing QB's (Newton, Tebow, Vick), Rodgers had the most yards rushing of the rest of the QB's in 2011.

Speaking of rushing the QB, Justin Smith was a beast yesterday. Bull rush after bull rush.

It's all about ratings. Tebow vs the Steelers brought in a 26 rating last week. Tebow vs Brady is an even bigger story. It certainly wasn't the better game but by leading with it I'm sure they got people to watch.

Ha just bringing up the fact that people did not give much credit to coaches playing a huge part in how a QB will do. QB's who play for offensive minded coaches, or in the Patriots and Colts case guys who will let the QB's basically run the whole offense really do great. Most people don't give Flacco to much credit, because they also have that conservative mindset and doesn't allow him to look great like others. I am not getting the Palmer debate again, just talking about QB's in general and how coaches play a huge part in how successful they can be. Also your right to think how Harbaugh will do with more talent is scary.

It showed it does matter. A team who is known for their defense, and guess what a TOP Ten DEFENSE just beat one of the best offenses in football. They caused turnovers, but most importantly never let the Saints get into rhythm either. Even in the second half when the 49ers offense did nothing until the final four minutes, the defense kept them right in it. Also guess what else it showed? It showed how when QB's play against the bad defenses that these top offenses have, that the QB's will look even better. Which is more reason to go against your Dalton theory, because most of these teams who have the better QB's don't have the defenses. So Dalton could start looking really good again.

 

Do you really want to go more into this debate? Right now one top 10 defense is a Championship game, then after this Ravens/Texans game is over there will be 2 top 10 defenses in the game. Which means Dalton would have played 3 games against top 10 defenses who are in Championship games! If anything this just shows that both ways are good ways to go about being successful. Some people have success having top offenses, some have success by having top defenses. Which means playing 11 games against top 10 defenses is also very tough, just like if they played 11 games against top 10 offenses would have been.
