San Francisco 36 New Orleans 32

Featured Replies

One of the most outrageous fourth quarters I've ever seen. I didn't give Alex Smith a snowball's chance in Hell of pulling that out after the gut-shot that was the Graham TD.

I'm betting Candlestick smelled awful from all the soiled underwear. If there's a game the rest of the playoffs that tops this one, I don't know if I can handle it.

Great game. What the New Orleans linebacker was doing on that last TD pass, I have no idea. I think staying in front of Vernon Davis is probably a good idea. San Francisco is a true contender if Alex Smith is going to play like that. That San Fran defense is nasty.

Let's go Niners, let's go!!!

I can't imagine being a fan of either team and watching that. It would have shaved years off my life.

Lets face it. San Fran is for real. They may not win it all but they've been disrespected all year. Couldn't be happier for Alex Smith even though he took out my boy Drew Brees.

I'm not sure the Niners can beat Green Bay on the road, but I'm very happy with this season either way. It's been a long while since I've had a whole lot to cheer about...

The two most complete teams left in the playoffs are San Fran and the Giants. Those two are very good in all categories.

Can you believe they led SportsCenter off with the Patriots game instead of this one? One of the best games I watched all year. I thought when San Fran went up 29-24 they left too much time for New Orleans. I had no idea that New Orleans would leave too much for San Fran.

Given how much time they've invested in Tebow worship this week, this surprises you?

It shouldn't, but it did. I really thought the superior game would win out. I guess Tebow + Brady = Doesn't matter, they're top story.

It might have been more like this: Brady+Tebow > Brees+Smith in that Brady and Tebow are, by all accounts, pretty good-looking guys. Brees, however, is kind of scary-looking, and I don't think 1 percent of the country outside of the Bay Area could ID Smith in a lineup. That, and the unnecessary Tebow hype they've invested in.

ESPN comes out looking pretty bad in all this, really. I hope the readers/viewers let the ombudsman hear about it.

How many games has Drew Brees won on the road in the playoffs? It's amazing how different of a team they are in the dome, and on the road. At home they really are the best team in football.

I think the one thing that this shows is that coaching does really play a BIG PART in how a QB will do. I used that argument many times during our Palmer debates, and people really sold it short on how much coaching really does play in it. People like Brees, and Rodgers have great offensive minds for their head coach. Alex Smith has had 7 OC's in his time as a QB, and the one other good year he had was with Norv Turner. Now he has Jim Harbaugh who definitely knows the QB spot obviously, and he is showing what he can do with the right coaching. Coaching plays a huge part in a player reaching its potential especially at QB. So I know I am happy for Alex Smith just like you are. He has had to deal with a lot of crap, especially considering the things he went through learning new offenses every year.

So happy for A. Smith. The kid was really left for dead and JH has truly resurrected him. I really thought he would be out of the league by now. The dime he threw to VD down the left sideline was incredible. He threw other great tight throws as well, but that one was my fav. So happy for this kid. He deserves it. Kudos.

Kind of like Peyton Manning in that regard.
