Is Bowling Green the #2 team in the state?

Featured Replies

 It's also easy to say go to Ohio and play those guys when it's less than a 20 min drive versus a 4 hours drive. It would be almost as close for BG to go play Hoover in Al. Wonder how many times HHS is going 4 hours to play anyone?

Hello !!!! Highlands is driving four and a half hours to Western Ky. to play F.S. in the finals , does that count ?

Is it 1975 0r 76 when the speed limit was 55? Or are you a senior citizen just enjoying the ride. It is only 200 miles from Ft. Thomas to BG. 3 hours 15 minutes with no delays in Louisville and if you "hustle" a little you can make it in 3 hours.

If your trying to be "cute or smart " your neither ! I haven't had to look at a map lately , but I'm pretty sure that Ft. Thomas and Louisville are not in Indiana . Try looking at my username and try to figure out where I'm coming from . As far as being a senior citizen , I don't know what your definition of a senior citizen is. So my trip might take four and a half hours , my suggestion is don't get behind me on the way to BG ! :D As far as hustling , I used to do that when I was younger , but I haven't picked up a pool stick in years ! If you have any more questions or want to give me driving lessons , you know how to contact me. :rolleyes:Go Birds !!!!

That is the main problem with this thread and why it is going on page 5. Highlands fans act as though BG can't beat or play with Highlands but there isn't one speck of evidence that comes to that conclusion. It is still all speculation. BG would definitely be one of the best defenses Highlands would face all year, there is proof of that. BG also has speed on both sides of the ball to keep up with Highlands also. I'd also be shocked if BG's slow o-line was any slower than Boyle's was this year and when I watched BG they didn't seem to have many(if any) players playing both ways. If we are going to be completely truthful then the best thing to say is that BG would easily be the best team Highlands would face this year not named Trinity. How it would turn out is anyone's guess. It just kills me to see comments like 'they aren't in Highlands class', 'they look like the same old team from WKY', 'they don't have Patrick Towles', etc etc. You guys know football well enough to know anything is capable of happening when two teams of that caliber get together on the field. Unfortunately, it won't happen this year.

Either way it goes, to act as if BG can't beat Highlands in 2011 is just.......well......you all know what it is at this point.

^ This.

I completely agree. I know that it may not seem it on here, but I have heard plenty say that they believed Highlands and Bowling Green would have been a great game this season, and many of them were from NKY with a good amount of them being from Ft. Thomas.

Woo-hoo! We're number 2!

I get your point but you have to admit, Mason County fans would love to be able to at least be in the argument that their team was the second best team in the state this year. You know it and I know it.

Also understand that for the last several years, Highlands fans have heard throughout the year how some western Ky team (or even teams) was/were better than Highlands. When that matchup eventually occurred it didn't turn out so well for the western Ky team. The BG fans are proclaiming that this year's BG team is much better than western Ky teams of the past and BG is indeed better than Highlands. Based on my review of tape, I see an improved BG team but I still don't see a team that I can say is better than Highlands. Perhaps BG would win. They could win. But I still think based on what I see that Highlands would win. Sorry folks, but I see a team typical of what I've seen in past matchups. Extremely good, fast and athletic skill players and average at best line play. We have beaten the western Ky teams in the past with superior line play. Why people are so confident that this year would be different is somewhat surprising to me. Highlands skilled players aren't chopped liver. I'm sorry, but I see an offensive line that would have extreme problems handling Highlands D. Others disagree with my assessment of BG's O line. I'll put my knowledge and ability to assess O lines up against anyone on here. Anyone.

Defensively, those so confident of a BG win because of BG's defense need to step back and honestly ask themselves: have they played a team that is so balanced and effective offensively; have they faced an O with a D-1 QB of Towles' abilities; have they faced a team that year in and year out turns out one of the better offensive lines in the state; have they faced a team that has the ability to put 4 extremely talented receivers out in routes on the same play? They haven't. Then those fans have to ask themselves if they can be certain that their defense would perform as well against Highlands as they did in other games? Common sense and football knowledge would tell them no. Perhaps they'd still perform effectively enough to win. I get that the BG fans are pumped up by the win over Lou X, but unless folks have ignored what has been posted about X this year and years past, X's O is no where near the challenge that Highlands' O would be for BG. I was impressed by Lou X's win over Cincy X. But even in that win, Lou X's O scored zero points. Their one score was an interception returned for a TD. Does that indicate an offense that's any where close to the level of Highlands? I think not. The Mattingly kid for X is surely one heck of a player, but that doesn't equate to a real good offense for Lou X. So I'm not sure too much should be read into BG's win over Lou X this year.

When asked the question if BG is the #2 team in the state, do you expect Highlands fans that think, after watching BG on tape, to say sure they are, even if Highlands fans think their team is better?

If people think the whole issue of who is second best is a stupid one, don't call out the Highlands fans who honestly answered the question. Call out the person who started the thread. Or better yet, ignore the thread entirely if you think the issue and discussion is stupid.

I get the enthusiasm of the BG fans. Heck I would be also if I was them. But people can't criticize Highlands fans for being arrogant in predicting a Highlands win when those fans are demonstrating that exact same enthusiasm. Talk about double standard: we're arrogant when we think we'll win. But when the fans of any other team post they think their team will win, they're just enthusiastic fans and believers. I'm amazed people can't see that.

There is a difference between believing your team will win and arrogance. Go back and start on page one and you'll see the difference. Had it been just Highlands fans saying Highlands would win is one thing. The way it is said is another thing. If not for the arrogance I would have done what I intended and avoided this whole thread. Even the words "looks like the same old WKY teams" comes off as condescending as if all WKY teams are garbage or not worthy enough. Whether or not that is the intent is lost in the tone. And for the record, plenty of fans believe that Boyle County fans are every bit as arrogant as Highlands fans and arrogance is one thing I can find in a post. It's dripping in this tread on every page.

As for your analytical info....I go back to my previous point about Elder. Cincy St. X beat Elder 21-6 but couldn't score enough on Louisville St. X to beat them. A team that you said isn't on Highlands level offensively. Highlands beat Elder 34-29 with McCoy at qb and Elder was missing how many starters that game? Were the Elder starters still gone against Cincy St. X? And I am not saying Highlands wouldn't have beaten Elder if Towles was in the game against a full Elder squad. All I am saying is that if you are going to discredit BG's win against a down St. X then you have to discredit Highlands win against a down and depleted Elder team as well. Which brings us back around full circle as to who is the better team. To which I ask now, if they play one game does that automatically make one team the better team or the better team that day? We've seen that happen before also. If Scott County beats Trinity should Scott Couty be #3 in the nation?

As for your watching tape question we all know that Highlands fans don't need to see tape to say or believe they are better than BG. Unless BG beat you 38-6 then I wouldn't expect 75% of the Highlands fans on this board to give BG any credit for anything. If BG beat Highlands 38-35 on a last second field I bet I could charge a nickel for every time I saw "BG was the better team today" and I would be able to pay for a lifetime subscription to BGP.

Crap, I can't believe you of all people are criticizing some Highlands fans for thinking Highlands would beat BG without even watching tape. I believe it was you that posted, in speaking about yourself: " I am a blind and loyal fan first and foremost.....just like the rest of you."

So it's okay for you to be a blind and loyal fan first and foremost, but it's wrong that some Highlands fans do the same thing. See a double standard there? And for the record, unlike you and some others, I am not a blind and loyal fan first and foremost when I assess whether I think Highlands will win in a matchup. You may be; some other Highlands fans may be. I am not. I keep my mouth shut (or more appropriately my fingers still) unless I know what in the heck I'm talking about.

If you took "typical western Kentucky team" to be condescending, that's your problem. I meant what I said in the context it was said: typical in very good skill players; average O line that would have trouble blocking and maintaining blocks on Highlands defenders.

Sorry if some Highlands fans posted stuff that you interpreted as being arrogant. We all interpret things on here differently. I interpret a lot of your posts as trolling and arguing just to be arguing because you think it's fun and cute, thus lacking credibility. I doubt the Highlands fans that you think are arrogant care about your opinion; I doubt you care about my opinion of you.

Anything else?

You couldnt be more wrong PP92. A few and let me re-emphasize a few times I have watched tape of upcoming opponents or have even seen them personally against other teams and have been concerned about the potential outcome of a Highlands matchups, I have been wrong.

I would proclaim to a buddy of mine that I was concerned and worried about a certain RB or a certain Defense and that Highlands would have trouble stopping someone or moving the ball on someone and this buddy would reassure me that after watching tape with LN that we would be fine. LOL. I didnt believe him but to date he has been right.

I dont really care what happens in the trenches because I was a special player (jk) a QB and all that I worried about was that I didnt get sacked or that we moved the ball at will on Offense.

LN knows what he is talking about when it comes to playing in the trenches and he also has been pretty good at predicting the outcome of HS games. How? IDK, but he does.

I now believe this reason is because in HS the game is won in between the TE's period end of sentence. I didnt believe this at first but that is the key and the truth.

My buddy also said that his buddy is buddies with a buddy that played with a buddy that beat BG a few yrs back that a buddy told him the same thing.

Just sayn Buddy...................

In all seriousness, BG has a nice respectful program that you are obviously very proud of as we are very proud of our nice respectful program. :thumb:

Lastly, I would charge more then a nickle but then again the arrogance says that 5 is a catchy number this yr. I couldnt resist.

And the word of the day is...............

I'm going with Buddy for word of the day!

Have to agree with Leatherneck's breakdown on a BG / HHS matchup. I've seen both teams several times but BG about twice as often as HHS. Just 2 weeks ago BG still beat Greenwood convincingly but a pretty bad Gwood team moved the ball relatively well and had the ball inside the 10 yd line on 3 or 4 occassions and got nothing. Last night BG played lights out and now the big margin of victory has everyone thinking BG is the obvious #2 team in the state. One thing BG has over HHS presently is that they have had virtually no serious injuries while HHS has lost their best receiver and probably one of their best linebackers for the year and have several other starters not at 100%. That being said I'd still take the birds by a touchdownor two for the exact reasons Leatherneck stated. Still hope BG gets a title this weekend because I really like a whole bunch of their seniors and they truly deserve a championship. Otherwise won't lose too much sleep if it's another 16 years between titles. Leatherneck, assuming you watched the BG/ Lexcath tapes. If so, why did Dale not go after Bolin like they attacked the CovCath qb. Obviously a win is a win but after watching how BG shut down Bolin with lots of blitzing thought HHS would do the same and actually thought HHS would beat LexCath alot worse than they did.

Thanks jbc for agreeing with my analysis. I doubt there are many other BG residents that feel the same way though.:D

I did see the BG/LexCath tape and of course I watched the Highlands/CovCath game live and on tape. I really have no idea why Dale (really Brian) made the decision to only rush 3 primarily against LexCath and drop the LBers so much. Given the success that Highlands had blitzing CovCath and BG had blitzing LexCath, that would have been the thing to do. I can't always figure out why Dale and Brian do the things they do. Perhaps Brian didn't want blitz packages on tape any more than was necessary. It was obviously clear from the regular season matchup against CovCath that if we gave Bir time to pass, he'd do so very effectively, which combined with their running game success in the first game, meant long possessions with the ball. Adjustments, such as blitzing were necessary to stop the run and get more pressure on Bir. Perhaps Brian was more confident in his defense's ability to slow LexCath's O without blitzing than he was in his defense's ability to slow CovCath's O without blitzing. Perhaps Brian was more concerned about LexCath's ability to complete crossing patterns across the middle, making it necessary to have the LBers drop. I really don't know the answer to your question, but it's a valid question.

Hope to run into you this weekend. I'm coming down Thursday and will be in town until Sunday morning.

Definitely agree with you Buddy.

Aint that something. A buddy goes and agrees with a buddys buddy and another buddys buddy gets all the credit. C'mon Buddy...........

I have always admitted that I am blind and loyal to Boyle County and Bowling Green. Always. Why do you assume when I am talking about arrogant Highlands fans I am talking about you? Did you not see the words 'whether it was your intent or not'? I am sorry I don't call games for KHSAA so I don't have access to game tape to make an 'educated' post you so desire to form a 'credible' argument about who is the better team. I form my opinions on belief and what I have seen with my own eyes and I have seen both teams once this year. I didn't realize my opinion didn't count because I hadn't watched tape. I used to find you as a respectable poster with credible opinions but at this point I am truly tired of you. I am trolling? Whatever. If i see something I don't agree with that I have an opinion on then I will voice my opinion. Period. Better yet, if my posts are trolling posts that lack credibility then just ignore me. Nobody is making you respond to me. It is clearly obvious that you and I don't click and never will. Funny you are the only person on this website who has ever appeared to have a problem with me. Was it not obvious that at this point in the thread all of the hostility was gone and that the thread had take an agree to disagree tone? Forgive me for challenging your almighty superior game tape watching opinion on a hypothetical matchup. You are absolutely right. Highlands would beat BG because they are so much better than BG at everything, including algebra. We get it. Nobody beats Highlands except Trinity. I apologize for believing otherwise without checking the tapes. How ignorant, asinine and idiotic of me buddy. Don't worry. You will NEVER see me in a Highlands thread again. I wouldn't want you to think I was trolling. I won't even get in the Boyle CountyHighlands Predictions thread. I'll just go ahead and say Highlands will win since that is obviously is what I am supposed to do.

You couldnt be more wrong PP92. A few and let me re-emphasize a few times I have watched tape of upcoming opponents or have even seen them personally against other teams and have been concerned about the potential outcome of a Highlands matchups, I have been wrong.

Same old story us dogfaces have had to live with--"Line's get the wins, QB's get the women."

Of course, maybe our line coach told us that to make us feel better about not getting any women. :D

That is the main problem with this thread and why it is going on page 5.
