I have a very hard time believing BG would be ranked #11 in any credible national poll(oxymoron, I know...) but without doing the research I would say yes that is BG's highest national ranking ever. Of course my posts lack credibility also so take it for what it's worth.

ESPN has HHS at #42 and BG not ranked..:thumb:

You've caught on to the conspiracy. Lots of Bowling Green parents looked to have kids in 1993 and 1994 in order to have them be seniors the year after Highlands moved out of a nonexistent class in football. They were very forward thinking.

I get your point but you have to admit, Mason County fans would love to be able to at least be in the argument that their team was the second best team in the state this year. You know it and I know it.

 

Also understand that for the last several years, Highlands fans have heard throughout the year how some western Ky team (or even teams) was/were better than Highlands. When that matchup eventually occurred it didn't turn out so well for the western Ky team. The BG fans are proclaiming that this year's BG team is much better than western Ky teams of the past and BG is indeed better than Highlands. Based on my review of tape, I see an improved BG team but I still don't see a team that I can say is better than Highlands. Perhaps BG would win. They could win. But I still think based on what I see that Highlands would win. Sorry folks, but I see a team typical of what I've seen in past matchups. Extremely good, fast and athletic skill players and average at best line play. We have beaten the western Ky teams in the past with superior line play. Why people are so confident that this year would be different is somewhat surprising to me. Highlands skilled players aren't chopped liver. I'm sorry, but I see an offensive line that would have extreme problems handling Highlands D. Others disagree with my assessment of BG's O line. I'll put my knowledge and ability to assess O lines up against anyone on here. Anyone.

 

Defensively, those so confident of a BG win because of BG's defense need to step back and honestly ask themselves: have they played a team that is so balanced and effective offensively; have they faced an O with a D-1 QB of Towles' abilities; have they faced a team that year in and year out turns out one of the better offensive lines in the state; have they faced a team that has the ability to put 4 extremely talented receivers out in routes on the same play? They haven't. Then those fans have to ask themselves if they can be certain that their defense would perform as well against Highlands as they did in other games? Common sense and football knowledge would tell them no. Perhaps they'd still perform effectively enough to win. I get that the BG fans are pumped up by the win over Lou X, but unless folks have ignored what has been posted about X this year and years past, X's O is no where near the challenge that Highlands' O would be for BG. I was impressed by Lou X's win over Cincy X. But even in that win, Lou X's O scored zero points. Their one score was an interception returned for a TD. Does that indicate an offense that's any where close to the level of Highlands? I think not. The Mattingly kid for X is surely one heck of a player, but that doesn't equate to a real good offense for Lou X. So I'm not sure too much should be read into BG's win over Lou X this year.

 

When asked the question if BG is the #2 team in the state, do you expect Highlands fans that think, after watching BG on tape, to say sure they are, even if Highlands fans think their team is better?

 

If people think the whole issue of who is second best is a stupid one, don't call out the Highlands fans who honestly answered the question. Call out the person who started the thread. Or better yet, ignore the thread entirely if you think the issue and discussion is stupid.

 

I get the enthusiasm of the BG fans. Heck I would be also if I was them. But people can't criticize Highlands fans for being arrogant in predicting a Highlands win when those fans are demonstrating that exact same enthusiasm. Talk about double standard: we're arrogant when we think we'll win. But when the fans of any other team post they think their team will win, they're just enthusiastic fans and believers. I'm amazed people can't see that.

I did a quick sort by replies, and one of the largest we had was back in '06 when the "blind draw" occurred that shuffled the 4A districts and forced Trinity and X to face in the regional finals. The one where that was essentially the only class where things got changed in a "blind draw".
