Possibly; I believe that the question could have been answered much easier if Highlands did not move down to 4A. No doubt that Bowling Green and Highlands would have been a great game.

As good as Bowling green is, they are not in Highlands league.

Where do I start?

 

1. Boyle County has the utmost respect for the Highlands FOOTBALL TEAM

 

2. I don't care if you play Trinity, the Cowboy, Ravens, whoever. Remember, it's not all these other teams fans that have a problem with Trinity being the best team in the state and not being able to do a darn thing about it.

 

3. We played the Bluebirds this season and lost by the second lowest margin of any Ky school Highlands played, all while having every offensive lineman graduate. And we won't talk too much about the Boyle/Highlands past game history as we all know we've been pretty respectable in that area as well. But when the topic is brought up about Boyle defeating the Bluebirds, it is quickly discredited with the fact that it was probably the lowest point in the Birds era, and it's what caused Dale to start reevaluating the whole blueburds program and start platooning. I guess your welcome, BTW

 

4. If you want to sit around and use Trinity as a team that Highlands isn't afraid of playing, we,(the other teams fans), say why not schedule them during the season and take away all doubt that your not afraid to play outside of the box! You all sure like to throw the around the big GCL teams that are on your schedule, but when we bring up Trinity, most of you start throwing around garbage about how many students they have to choose from, and how you all would be the only team to be within 2 to 3 touchdowns of T in the state. Put up or shut up. You can't brag about not being afraid to play the big teams and then set up a "scrimmage" when you have an opportunity to put it on record.

 

5. I have news for you, Boyle , Lex Cath , Male, Ballard , Bowling Green have earned respect, maybe not from you, but that doesn't hold much water on here anyway. Unlike you, we don't huff and puff when all of football forum land doesn't bow down and sing your praises on each and every post. You start a thread about any subject at all, and sit back and wait for someone to say anything at all that doesn't glorify the Birds in some way or the other. It's a discussion forum and everyone doesn't have the exact same views as Bluebird nation, remember, it's a football forum with fans from many teams across the state, your not going to convince everyone that your team is the best(or 2nd best in this case) So give us all a break and state your opinion on threads without constantly needing us to validate it.

 

6. Boyle County plays teams outside of their class every year, not sure if we're talking about the same Boyle County team or not. Let's think about this for a second. You call out Boyle to come up and play Elder and CincyX, right? Well, Highlands already played, and beat Elder and CincyX...are you still with me? We scheduled YOU, and YOU already beat them, so in essence, we scheduled a tougher team than CincyX or Elder by playing YOU right?

 

7. The answer to your question about Boyles winning streak, it's 5, you were talking about consecutive state titles weren't you? You all should catch up with that streak next week, we've had that record for awhile now and it would be an honor to share that with Bluebird Nation.

 

8. Last but not least. You call us haters, but what your failing to realize is we don't hate Highlands, it doesn't have anything to do with those fine young men that put it all on the line every Friday night. Let me repeat this in case you're a little slow...The majority of us do not hate the Highlands football team(reread #1 above). It's the arrogance of narrow minded fans that spew garbage on these forums that would turn any unbiased fan away from cheering for your program for the simple fact that if we're not a Highlands fan, then somehow all of our programs or fans are beneath yours, and that's just simply not the case.

 

I'm sure their will be posters that cut, copy and paste parts of this post (or the whole post) and insert their funny, cute, arrogant, smart-a** remark. But that's expected. I wish the Bluebird football team the best next Saturday on their way to #21. And the Purples too!!:thumb:

Nobody expects anybody to bow down to HHS , if we show support or talk positve about the Birds , people like you think it makes their team inferior. I can understand Boyle fans wanting HHS to lose next week because of the state title streak is about to be tied if HHS wins. This year? Yes.

There is still one more week of football to be played... perhaps we should wait to see how everything plays out before coming up with a final statewide rankings list. Highlands and BG are heavily favored to win their respective state titles. But what if either Highlands or BG really struggles and plays poorly this week? Also, Trinity is heavily, heavily favored against undefeated Scott County, but what if SC plays Trinity really tough and makes a pretty good game out of it? Couldn't SC then lay claim to #2 in the state?

 

Also, while we don't often debate who is #2 in the state there are extenuating circumstances this year, given how dominant Trinity has been. Frankly (and I am sure the THS supporters may disagree), but with how many OOS games THS has played this year, how no team in the state has come even remotely close to laying a finger on them, and that the biggest issue to be settled with THS at this point is whether they win a mythical national championship this year or finish runner-up, I no longer really even consider THS when thinking about KY prep football. I really only think about THS at the national level at this point.

 

Also, since there's all this talk about what the pecking order is in KY prep football in this thread, I will go ahead and make a very bold prediction: as long as Coach Beatty is in charge at THS, Trinity will NEVER again lose a varsity football game to a KY opponent, not against Louisville St. X, not against Highlands, not against BG, not against Male, not against any KY team, EVER, as long as Beatty is at the helm.

No doubt in my mind that HHS beats anyone not named Trinity if they played this year. However, I also have no problem with anyone who thinks BG is the second best team in the state. They have had a very impressive year.

I have watched BG against LexCath and the playoff game against Warren Central. Perhaps to you, BG's O line is fast of the ball. To me, they are not. Not near fast or quick enough to be able to maintain blocks against Highlands defenders. I'd rather not discuss specific players by name and "flaws" I see in their game or techniques.

 

BG does once again, like almost every western Ky team I've watched over the last 10 years, have great speed at the skill positions. But ask yourself: has that been enough to beat Highlands in the past? Do you really think the are that much better than the skilled players from western Ky of the past? Do you really think the O line is that much better than in the past? Why do you think they could do it this year? I'd say the burden of proof is on someone predicting something different would happen than what has happend pretty often in the past. BG's center is freshman; left guard is a sophomore. That doesn't cause you concern as to how they'd be able to handle Highlands defenders? Problems in the kicking game (long snaps on punts) not a concern? Come on. I appreciate supporting a team or perhaps any team that is being compared with Highlands but you are not backing up your opinion with a solid foundation.

 

Spend some time seriously watching tape if you haven't. As you do so, consider who is BG is playing and how that team would compare with Highlands. Then ask yourself: would BG be able to do what it is doing if it was Highlands that was lined up against BG?

 

Warren Central is a decent football team. It is not in my opinion, after watching them, a real good team. BG could stack the box and bring the house against Warren Central without much risk. O line and RBs didn't pick them up well. It seemed clear to me that Warren Central is a running team and doesn't pass the ball well. So when they attempted to do it, it was a disaster which BG exploited. Ask yourself: do you think BG would be able to get near that much pressure on Highlands QB? They wouldn't. Highlands would run screens and quick passes until BG backed off bringing the LBers. Once they backed off, Towles would have a lot of time to find open receivers. BG's d line is not athletic enough on its own to get pressure on Towles. Like 45 (Music sp?) for BG a lot. Nice player. But Highlands O line is much, much better at both run and pass blocking than Warren Central's. That's not coming from Highlands arrogance: that's coming from watching tape and following O line play as closely if not more closely than anyone on here.

 

It amazes me that people always talk about how the games are won in the trenches, yet spend so little time actually watching it. BG's skilled players may be a quick or two steps quicker. Even if they are, if the games are won in the trenches, what does it matter if they are quicker?

 

I didn't justify BG's win in 95 to it being Dale's second year. BG had the better team. But if you believe that Highlands program is anywhere near where it was in Dale's second year, you are mistaken. Quicker faster lines do give Highlands more problems than slow unathletic ones do from my observations of Highlands for a long time. BG does not have a fast, quick O line.

 

I do look at past history. Only a fool doesn't look at past history. Does past history guarantee what will happen this year? No. But it does give one a starting point as one reviews tape.

 

I still think Highlands beats BG. Don't know it for sure, but my past assessments based on tape review have been pretty darn accurate, which is why I'm inclined to believe I'm right this time. You don't have to agree with it. No reason to fling the garbage about Highlands fans. I gave my analysis as to why I think Highlands would win. You can disagree with it, but how about doing it in a respectful manner. Sadly, I expected responses similar to yours when I made my original post; hence the panties in a bunch comment.

I know nothing about Bowling Green this year, but Patrick Towles may be the best High School quarterback that I've seen play. The kid knows what he's doing. As far as coaching, I don't doubt that Dale Mueller is one of the best, if not the best coach across the state. The way he develops talent year in and year out given the numbers he is working with is nothing short of outstanding.

 

But as far as who is better, we'll never know. Threads like this come up every year. It's kind of silly, but hey, atleast it gives everyone something to talk about. Maybe it's because I'm an NKY guy, maybe it's because I witnessed Highlands defeat a very solid Covington Catholic team, but my gut instinct is to say Highlands is better. I guess it's hard for me to believe that there is a better team in the state. But who knows. Definitely not me.
