Agree with dmh115, that debating #2 is crazy. This is like saying "40 is the new 30". Only said by 40-somethings who want to be 30-something again. Does #2 really mean anything? This is why polls like this or the college BCS drive me nuts. You can debate until the cows come home...no one will agree, no one will change someone else's mind, and the only true way to determine it is on the field. That won't happen this year with BG and HHS.

 

Question: does anyone know if Highlands will be scrimmaging Trinity next year? With all this talk about rankings, I need to add that according to Dallas Jackson of Rivals High Highlands fell completely off his radar screen this year after Trinity beat them handily in the scrimmage. So, if HHS is interested in garnering national attention next year the may want to think twice about playing against Trinity, be it in a scrimmage or a regular season game, unless they plan on beating the Rocks.

If playing Trinity prepares HHS for the drive for another state title but takes us off the national rankings radar screen, that is a tradeoff that I would be willing to make every year.

 

The only number that matters in HHS land is #21 and hopefully that comes home next Saturday. The saying for this year at HHS has been "Drive for 5", not "Drive for #2". Rankings are "icing on the cake" (no pun intended), but the goal is always a state title. Good luck to the Purples. May you bring home a state title next weekend while playing in your backyard.

Highlands would beat BG like the " Red Headed Step Brother " that they are...Highlands owns the western side of the state..Until someone from the western side beats the Birds SHUT IT UP!!!

Which is why Bowling Green went out and beat both St. X and LexCath on the road in addition to their impressive wins over some of the western side.

 

The nature of Highlands is such that they are probably going to be better than any team from almost anywhere in the state 9 times out of ten (or even more). The stars will not often align that one of the other teams that are capable of knocking them off will meet them. This would have been one of those years where a team like Bowling Green would have had a decent shot.

 

The LexCath results in comparison paint a different story than what those of you working off of past results are looking at. After all, LexCath is one of those teams from the east that dusted Bowling Green back in 2005. Your answer to that would probably be that that LexCath team was much better than this one. Well this Bowling Green team is much better than any of the ones that has made your opinion of them so low.

Well put. totally agree. Still think HHS would win a head to head match up this year but it would be one heck of a game!

You alone makes it very hard to pull for Highlands but thank goodness that 99% of Highlands fans are not like you. I have a friend who sat in Highlands section during the state game last year and he loved how all the fans acted. Said they were knowledgeable about the game and had class. You must have not been sitting there.

I'm not changing the argument. My belief that enrollment doesn't matter is the fact that schools like Beechwood, Highlands, Bowling Green, Boyle County, LexCath, LexChristian, Bell County, etc etc have continually beaten schools that have a larger enrollment than them. What good is having 1500 boys going to do if none of them are any good at football? Enrollment doesn't matter.

 

You forgot the part where I said "all things held equal". Enrollment does matter. The larger pool you have to choose from, the better chance of getting a good athlete.

 

Those teams win consistently because of the commitment to their programs.

The entire purpose of the statement, as has been explained, is that generally people only debate who #1 is. There is no debate about who #1 is. Therefore we debate the next team down. It will be the same way next year and for years to come.

I think even the kids know that at best they will be the 2nd best team in the state of Ky. They'd be ignorant to think otherwise.

Enrollment is part of the whole equation. But to say it doesn't matter is ignorant.

 

To each his own. I think it is ignorant to believe Highlands would beat Bowling Green this year based on what Bowling Green did years ago.
