Carson Palmer traded to the Raiders

Featured Replies

All off season when people were giving Mike Brown crap I said if he was smart he would try to call Palmers bluff, to see if he comes back. Since he still would have given them the best chance to win. Then I said if he really does not come back, trade him before the deadline or after the season. It was not like we were going to get picks before this years draft. Mike Brown played this perfect. Even though I didn't think they could get two 1st round picks possibly for him. I thought it probably could be a #1

Which by the way people on here have to realize the main people down on Palmer were Bengal fans. Not as many coaches, or NFL guys were as down as Palmer. These people actually saw the things I been trying to explain on here for awhile, and that there was more to it than just Palmer. Which even with that Palmer still threw for 4000 yards and 26 touchdowns last year in a bad year for him. He is not this horrible QB as many people around here believed.

This was a great trade for the Bengals, and I wish Palmer success except for when they play the Bengals. Hopefully we see them in the playoffs! Now that would be fun!

Palmer restructured his contract to fit under the cap for Oakland I heard.

How much salary is Palmer getting on his contract? Did the Bengals have to eat any of it to make the deal happen?

He will make 7 Mil and some change this year. No the Bengals aren't paying anything.

My crystal ball says Oakland at Cincinnati for Monday Night Football in 2012 !

Conditional pick in 2013 is 1st rounder if Raiders win 1 playoff game or it's a 2nd rounder

I can see it now. Oakland wins West, Cincy sneaks in as a wild card and CP is playing a home game where if Oakland wins it's actually better for Cincy.

You were all over this. I never thought his value would improve. Campbell getting hurt worked out perfectly for the Gals.

If ever they were going to trade him this may be the best circumstances, with Campbell being likely out for the season but Oakland having a good season means that's Palmer maybe be more valuable to them now.

I guess I was right, I know Brown's a bit of a hard nose guy but it's hard to pass on 2 first round draft picks.

I think Palmer will stay out and I think the Bengals will trade him during the season as the trade deadline nears if they can get what they feel is value and the team is competitive with Dalton. Those are the two big if's in that scenario, with the biggest if being getting what Mike Brown considers proper value for Palmer.

I thought Mikey was handling the Carson situation correctly, but I have to admit I really didn't expect those two huge if's to fall into place ... but they did. This QB situation has turned into the perfect storm for Mikey. Everything that needed to happen has happened. Palmer had to stick to his guns and stay out. Dalton needed to perform above average. The team needed to win under Dalton's leadership. There needed to be a team that was in playoff contention and desperate need of a QB. That team had to be willing to give at least one 1st round pick for Palmer. It could not have fallen together any better. Even the haters (which includes just about all of us when it comes to Mikey) have to congratulate Mikey on this one. It is great for the Bengals, great for Mikey, great for Palmer and ... well know in a couple of months how good it worked out for the Raiders.

Ya I figured they'd trade him mid season if the conditions were right but knew Mike Brown would have no problem holding on to him if it wasn't an offer he didn't really like. A team with a 4-2 record after week six, losing their starting QB turned out to be absolutely perfect conditions for the Bengals to trade CP.

Al Davis's ghost is now running the Raiders... :ohbrother:

All Bengal fans should be on cloud 9 for this one. MB got lucky on this one.

Wrong. Everything to do with first round pick.

History would suggest otherwise.

How serious are the Cincinnati Bengals about not giving in to Chad Johnson's trade demands?

Serious enough to swat away an offer from the Washington Redskins that could have netted the Bengals two first-round draft picks, team and league sources said.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, who initially denied the team had received offers for Johnson during a Tuesday news conference, confirmed to ESPN that Cincinnati turned down Washington's offer of two picks over the weekend.

I about fell out of my chair. What a coup for the organization.

Only difference was Chad was not saying he would retire if he was not traded. If Chad said that, and that was the offer he probably takes it then too. Even though he should have taken it anyways. Both parties played this perfect, Palmer stuck to what he had to do and the only leverage he had to get out. And Brown stuck to what he had to do, and made it clear he won't just trade guys who want out. This also made a team have to be willing to give up a lot to get him, and he got it from a desperate team. Well played by both.

Raiders Super Bowl odds went from 30/1 to 20/1 today. Any idea who they picked up?

I agree with your point that Carson "retiring" added an element to this situation that was not present when Mike B. turned down Daniel Schneider's offer for Chad. In my opinion, the most significant difference (that prompted Mike B. to pass in '08 and act in '11) was the string of consecutive sellouts that was in place in 2008 and the loss of the season ticket base + tens of thousands of empty seats in 2011. Follow the dollar.
