Carson Palmer traded to the Raiders

Featured Replies

I guess anything is possible but I just don't see it. Would be one of the worst MNF match ups in recent memory.

Seriously? Have you seen the MNF match ups this season? Raiders are a good team and the Bengals have young up and coming stars. I think it would be above average for a MNF game.

So you don't see it as being a solid game if say the Bengals finish .500 and the Raiders make the postseason this year?

Heck, the freaking St. Louis Rams (7-9 last year) hosted a MNF game this year. The Washington Redskins hosted a MNF game this year already. Jacksonville is hosting MNF this coming week.

You think Giants vs Rams, Bucs vs Colts, and Miami getting 2 Monday night games are better/more watchable than ex-Bengal franchise-holdout-crybaby QB Carson Palmer playing at home against his old team? Get real.. That's just this season. We're in week 6...

Good for the Bengals and good for Palmer, but probably not good for the Raiders long term (depending on how many years Palmer has left in him). If the Raiders are working out everybody and their brother at backup QB, then they should reunite Bush with Brohm :thumb:

Not like the schedule this year has been much better.

I disagree. If he starts for four years it was well worth it. Jackson knows he probably only has two years. Oakland isn't known for keeping coaches. At best drafting QB's in the 1st round is a 50/50 proposition. He feels CP is a top notch talent. If he's right a 1st and 2nd is a good deal.

You'd be happy and content with your team trading away two first rounders potentially or a first and a second for certain to get an average QB who could keep your team around the .500 mark for 4 years? That sounds like a good deal to you?

I will believe all the Bengals hype this season after they get into their big divisional games. I've never claimed to be a Bengals fan, but I'll say that this has the potential to be a turn-around moment for the franchise. For the first time in a long time, Mike Brown has made an outside of the box decision dedicated to the positive outlook of the franchise (besides draft choices, etc.). I'm excited to see what this young team can do with their draft picks. I fully expect them to have Buccaneer 2010-2011 like success and produce a young and dangerous team.

Not saying they're not dangerous yet, but I just feel like with the teams they've beaten so far (combined 7-17 record I believe, with 4 of those wins coming from a Cinderella Bills team) don't warrant getting excited for anything close to a playoff run until they prove themselves against the few big guns in their schedule. Those big guns happen to practically all come in the form of division rivals.

Look what Oakland has traded away from the upcoming drafts...

2012 First Round Pick (to Cincinnati) - Carson Palmer

2012 Second Round Pick (to New England) - 3rd and 4th Round picks in 2011, Joseph Barksdale & Taiwan Jones

2012 Third Round Pick (supplemental draft) - Terrelle Pryor

2012 Fourth Round Pick (to Washington) - Jason Campbell

2012 Seventh Round Pick (to Seattle) - Aaron Curry

2013 First or Second Round Pick (to Cincinnati) - Carson Palmer

2013 Mid-Round Pick (to Seattle) - Aaron Curry

That is half of the next two drafts. They forfeited 4 picks for QB's alone.

They're hardly going to be able to add anything to their roster in next year's draft. Ironically, for this trade to be good for Oakland, it needs to end up being two first rounders, because that would mean they made it to the AFC Championship game in 2011 or 2012.

Type quieter. Futurecoach will blow a gasket if he hears you.

In regard to the MNF schedule, I started a thread earlier this year before the season started about the absolutely pitiful schedule they have planned this year (not to mention few of the potentially good match-ups got foiled by a Peyton Manning-less Colts). I am with Blue Magic. I don't see a plausible argument for the Bengals-Raiders in a MNF game not being a good match-up. Americans loves their revenge stories, and this has the potential for either the city that threw franchise quarterback away or that franchise quarterback having his way with the Queen City.

I would think Bengal fans would hope the Raiders tank, improve their draft status for next year. Not sure I wouldn't rather have a high first rounder with a 2nd rounder than 2 mid to late first rounders.

Good point.

If the Raiders tank or do great, that 2013 pick will be virtually the same value (low first vs. high second).

Oakland drafted Rolando McClain in the first round of the 2010 draft. If they make it to the AFC Championship game this year or next, 2014 will be the next time they pick in the first round.

I disagree EZ and so does ProFootballTalk.com:

Bengals fans have a right to be excited about their young team. For all his faults, owner Mike Brown has done a nice job drafting in recent years at the top of the draft.

His top two picks this year: Andy Dalton and A.J Green — have re-shaped the franchise.

In 2009, the team added a strong starting tight end (Jermaine Gresham), a fine pass rusher (Carlos Dunlap), and a good defensive line piece in Geno Atkins.

The Bengals have seen some of their other recent picks slowly develop into solid contributors: Rey Maualuga, Michael Johnson, Andre Smith, and Jerome Simpson.

Go back even further and you find some top-shelf talent picked like cornerbackLeon Hall, tackle Andrew Whitworth, and cornerback Johnathan Joseph, who left for Houston.

This is a better track record than most of the league. If Dalton is for real and the Bengals can hit on their two first round picks next year, they have the makings of a strong young core that will be dangerous in the AFC North.

I agree with this; if the draft patterns over the next two years produce the results that the past few have done, especially with what they got for trading Palmer, it is hard for me to not see a bright future.
