October 19, 201115 yr I guess we have a difference in opinion on Richardson then. I see him as being on the AP level of talent. Not many of those guys out there. We do. If he is that special I would give up two first rounders to move up to get him without a problem. If they get him, no matter how they do it I hope you're right.
October 19, 201115 yr You'd be happy and content with your team trading away two first rounders potentially or a first and a second for certain to get an average QB who could keep your team around the .500 mark for 4 years? That sounds like a good deal to you? It depends. As a fan probably not. I was looking at it from Hue Jackson's standpoint. He has a 2 year window. Who cares about draft picks if you're him? If you win your division this year this trade was worth it as a fan, coach or owner.
October 19, 201115 yr Look what Oakland has traded away from the upcoming drafts... 2012 First Round Pick (to Cincinnati) - Carson Palmer 2012 Second Round Pick (to New England) - 3rd and 4th Round picks in 2011, Joseph Barksdale & Taiwan Jones 2012 Third Round Pick (supplemental draft) - Terrelle Pryor 2012 Fourth Round Pick (to Washington) - Jason Campbell 2012 Seventh Round Pick (to Seattle) - Aaron Curry 2013 First or Second Round Pick (to Cincinnati) - Carson Palmer 2013 Mid-Round Pick (to Seattle) - Aaron Curry That is half of the next two drafts. They forfeited 4 picks for QB's alone. They're hardly going to be able to add anything to their roster in next year's draft. Ironically, for this trade to be good for Oakland, it needs to end up being two first rounders, because that would mean they made it to the AFC Championship game in 2011 or 2012. With their draft history that might be a wash.

If you win your division this year this trade was worth it as a fan, coach or owner. Not telling what it does to the Raiders in the log term. Losing half their picks in the next 2 drafts could be brutal.
October 19, 201115 yr Do I think Mike is a genius? No. But he is the shrewdest negotiator I've ever represented. In spite of the "no trade" talk, I believe Mike had every intent to trade Palmer at the right time. Mike's been around for a while. He knows that starting QBs get hurt a lot and teams get desperate. Did he foresee the Raiders losing their starting QB? No, he's not a tarot reader either. But common sense and past history said that something like what happened with Oakland would happen to some team. And if it didn't before the trade deadline, Mike could trade Palmer in the spring. It was costing him nothing to park Palmer in S. CA. Heck, Mike had to be pleased as punch to hear Palmer was continuing to work out as that only helped keep Palmer's stock high. Combine that with Mike's "no trade" talk gave Mike the leverage to demand a lot in the trade. Mike has his shortcomings and I understand why people don't like him (a lot of it is Mike's personality which is drier than sand in the Mohave and a lot of it is dangerous pride in being Paul Brown's son), but he is one heck of a negotiator. We know how he out negotiated the Hamilton County Commissioners on PBS and got the Bengals an absolutely fantastic deal. I don't blame Mike for the sweet deal he got on PBS; I blame the idiots at Hamilton County. Great deal Mike and outstanding negotiation tactics. Now continue to stay out of Marvin's way in coaching the team and selecting draft choices. It's working well. Leave Marvin alone and he'll make you a lot of money. I know it's tough for you to do so, being Paul Brown's son and wanting to convince the world that you know as much about the game as your father did and have lived up to the expectations of being Paul Brown's son, but stay out of the way and the Bengals could be more successful (on the field and financially) than you could have ever imagined. Very well put LN and I couldn't agree more.
October 19, 201115 yr Not telling what it does to the Raiders in the log term. Losing half their picks in the next 2 drafts could be brutal. Absolutely. But this is only two more picks. They started getting rid of them long before this. If they win their division this year isn't it worth next years #1? The other pick is what makes it a steal for the Gals.
October 19, 201115 yr This whole merry go round with Raiders began with the bust pick of Jemarcus Russell.
October 19, 201115 yr This whole merry go round with Raiders began with the the bust pick of Jemarcus Russell. JaMarcus Russell, rookie. Sorry I had to.
October 19, 201115 yr JaMarcus Russell, rookie. Sorry I had to. Funny thing is the 1st thing I typed was Lemarcus. Got a little closer
October 19, 201115 yr So you don't see it as being a solid game if say the Bengals finish .500 and the Raiders make the postseason this year? Heck, the freaking St. Louis Rams (7-9 last year) hosted a MNF game this year. The Washington Redskins hosted a MNF game this year already. Jacksonville is hosting MNF this coming week. Can't argue these woodsrider. Awful. I'll give it a shot. While most of those are not good they all have some draw. The Rams played the Giants which is out of the a big TV market. Washington hosted Dallas, huge rivalry and Dallas has one of the biggest fan bases in the league. The Jacksonville game is one I don't really have an argument for, they actually get 2 Monday night games this year. When the schedule was made I don't think anyone thought they would be this bad, that's all I got.
October 19, 201115 yr 2012 MNF @ PBS Oakland Raiders vs. Cincinnati Bengals....Mark it down. Carson will be booed more than anyone ever has in the Nati. I don't doubt it as ignorant as Bengals fans are.
October 19, 201115 yr I don't doubt it as ignorant as Bengals fans are. He quit on their team. He deserves it IMO.
October 19, 201115 yr He quit on their team. He deserves it IMO. You ever quit a job? Happens all the time. He did it the right way. All the idiots who will be booing him were just as down on the Bengals as he was.
October 19, 201115 yr You ever quit a job? Happens all the time. He did it the right way. All the idiots who will be booing him were just as down on the Bengals as he was. Not even close to the same thing. He signed on for a specific number of years willingly. He knew exactly what he was getting into. My job isn't based on a specific amount of months or years. He quit on them plain and simple. I couldn't imagine what people would be saying if this was someone like TO. He would be getting blasted.
October 19, 201115 yr You ever quit a job? Happens all the time. He did it the right way. All the idiots who will be booing him were just as down on the Bengals as he was. Come on. You can't compare quitting as a franchise QB in the NFL to a you, me or HT quitting a job. That's absurd
