Carson Palmer traded to the Raiders

Featured Replies

You didn't hear much about Brats play calling in 2005 and 2006. It's easy to place the blame on other people. At some point you have to realize a lot of it was Carson.

No doubt. He is not the player he was in 05-06. He is better than at least half the starters in the league. He is better than every starter the Gals have faced this year by a lot.

The Raiders did not bet the ranch on Palmer for next season

Yes they did. Actually Hue Jackson did and the Raiders listened to him.

I wouldn't say he is better than Fitz by a lot but everyone else probably.

I would believe they made this move for THIS season. And yes if Carson fails, Jackson will probably be fired

Honestly I kinda agree with what you just said here. That is what does not make sense to me. The team probably was set up perfectly for him now, having a new OC, new young talented receivers and TE. Not to mention after the last game last year, he told Simpson to get ready that he and him were going to tear it up next year. So what happened from the last game of the year, to two weeks later when he asked to be traded? The situation had become good here.

Did he have a problem with Marvin which he will never admit? Maybe he believed Marvin definitely would be gone. It wasn't until after Marvin was resigned that he asked for the trade. Was it maybe family, and his wife and kids wanting to be back on the west coast. Obviously he wanted to keep playing football or he would have just stayed retired. So what happened after this year to make him now decide to want to be gone, because the situation here was not going to be that bad. That is something I wonder about, and something we probably will never know. Since he probably will never reveal the real reason, and will just keep saying it was a time for a change for both parties.

I think it was one of those "straw that broke the camel's back" situations. Palmer was getting more and more fed up every year. You could see it in his pressers. He looked like a depressed man and not just because they lost a game. He was wearing the weight of the world on his face. Last season was it for him and I think the final straw was when fans started dumping trash in his front yard. I really think that was the final straw for him. He was done, his wife was done and that was the end of it for CP in Cincinnati. I really believe that trash in the yard and the personal feeling attacks were the final straw. That's why there was nothing the Bengals could do to get him to come back. It was personal and family at that point.

Hue and CP will get at least two years. They can't draft a QB this year

The game changes every year in the NFL. If you keep doing the samethings people figure it out, you have to keep adjusting. Which it never seemed like they did, it was always the same stuff and same passing combinations. I been saying that for a few years, and now TJ basically said the same as me. Brat kept trying to do the samething he did back in 2005, even though the personal was changing and with people starting to catch on. He was here since 2001 and was always basically the same. People caught on, and we never seemed to adjust. Which TJ is not the first to say this either. This is why we can put blame on the OC. Then you can't deny receivers were a problem too. Yes Palmer was not innocent, but all three parts Carson, OC, and receivers played a big part in it.

Don't forget in 2005 they also went a lot of no huddle, so Carson was calling the plays at the line himself. Not to mention in 2009 the offense was once again best in the no huddle at end of games. Seems like when Brat was not the one calling the play, they did better.

I'd agree. But this move was made for this season. If they wanted Palmer for next year, they would have made an offer for him in the off season, which would have probably been not so impactful for them.

Obviously they wanted him this year too, but this isn't a one year move. Seattle is said to have offered two 2nd round picks for CP also. Maybe he's not as bad as fans in this area think.

This is not a one year only move. Jason Campbell's contract is up this year. The Raiders made this move both to win this year and also counting on Palmer to be their QB for the next few years as well.

Oh I understand. However there will be some pretty loud rumblings if Palmer doesn't get them in the playoffs this season, considering their current record and the division they are in.

From everything I've heard, Seattle offered a 2nd and a 4th.

A thought just occurred ... if the Raiders let Jason Campbell go, won't they get a draft pick or two for him as compensation? If yes, that was probably a factor in the picks they were willing to give up for Palmer.

This situation sets up pretty well for Palmer. He plays in a mediocre division, w/ a coach that he is close to. The offense is run based, so he will not have to win games w/ his arm. His defense is having a terrible year against the pass, but isn't putrid. All he has to do is keep the chains moving. However, name 2 wide receivers for the Raiders... who is he going to throw to on third and medium to get the crucial firsts that sustain drives?

Wouldn't it also have to be a situation where another team loses its starter and needs someone better than their backup to keep them in the playoff hunt? I mean, if Seattle somehow ends up losing out on the Luck sweepstakes because they win more than Miami does...Campbell might be a candidate up there. But they'd simplly sign him as a free agent in the off season, wouldn't they?

Anyway, I don't see the Raiders releasing him this year simply because if he is able to come back from the collar bone issue this season, he gives them a much better backup to Carson down the stretch run than Boller would.
