I agree that 2 out of 10 yrs NCC would be able to compete but the other 8 games that end up 56-7 would not go over good for this rivalry. I compare NCC to how Highlands handled Beechwood the last two yrs. No disrespect to NCC they have a great program but to maintain that level that Highlands does would result in some lopsided scores over a 5 to 10 yr stretch.

I too have no dog in this fight and I see no point in playing this game. NewCath is a AA school already playing 4,5,and 6 A schools. Why play HHS? no point. I think it is more of an issue for older HHS fans in the stands who want to say "haha we won." As for Bob, if you know anyone from NewCath you know nobody ever called him a great coach, but a great man. They don't even call him coach Schneider it is Mr. Schneider by his players.

You are right on with these comments. Anyone who criticizes NCC's schedule isn't paying attention. No point in adding another school with many more students. Some Highlands fans can't stand the fact that other smaller schools like NCC and Beechwood get credit for what they do. If Highlands is all that concerned about scheduling they should play Trinity and several GCL teams every year.

As for having any negative comments about Bob Schneider, you are sadly misinformed. He is highly respected throughout the state by people with much more credibility than the nay sayers.

The fact that Rule only won by 3 Tsai when NewCath had 5 turnovers tells you that it would have been a game seeing as Ryle beat Highlands and CovCath, who NewCath ran all over, gave the Birds all they could handle. I am confident that last year would have been a stellar game. I think that this year would fall in at about a 14-17 pt loss for NewCath

I say yes and believe this game is more competitive than some are thinking in the next few years, especially if Coach Eviston stays around with the Breds.

I remember when Highlands was a small School and now they are not. They would only take out of city kids if they had room, now they have the room and they have kids coming from all over to go there, I think they are close to 800 kids. Yes NCC is going the other way they are down to 390 kids people just don't have the money to send there kids to a private School.

The Newcath Ryle game was a very inaccurate showing. The refs made every call in the favor of Ryle. Interceptions throw by Hightchew visibly bounced off the turf and were still called INTs. Newcath had 5 turnovers overall, 3 of which were high snaps. Nice try.

Fact is both schools are very close to each other, natural rivalry already exists. Both schools once played in the same classification and were very competitive. NC,prior to merger, and NCC has always been a smaller school. If they can play Ryle and SK, both 6A schools, CovCath, 4A and McNick in Cincy then your size argument is lost. This game ended during a down period at NCC and a few too many flare ups with Schneider and Duffy and then Dale.

 

I think Eviston will bring this one back in a year or two, hopefully.

After reading all the post, I may have mis-voted. In all reality, this wouldn't be much of a game in most years. Like some said, 8-10 years, it wouldn't be close. The other 2 years, NCC might get a win. Heck, in the last 10 years, very few teams have won 1 of 10 games against the Birds. So with that said, I would like to change my vote. NO!

Ryle was in complete control of the game and Elliott literally ran them over on a number of occasions. NC is not in the same league as Highlands but the game would help NC improve each year.

Are you remembering what they did in their opener? They weren't struggling. 5 turnovers, they were gifted 5 possessions. They should have been in complete control. If I remember correctly, that game was dictated by a very long second quarter drive. Also, one game is a very small sample size. I watched about 9 of 15 games last year live or online and watched 6 Highlands games. It pains people to admit it but their are seasons where the Breeds can trade blows w Highlands. Last season was one of them. Again, this does nothing but draw a huge gate for NewCath. They have nothing to lose.

I say yes. Maybe start with a two season agreement. It seems New Cath and Cov Cath are usually on an even keel with each other every season and Cov Cath plays Highlands. It has been said on here before, you should play better teams to get better, within reason of course.

What benefit would Highlands get by playing NCC? The answer would be none except maybe to fill out the schedule. The days of yesteryear are gone where NCC was about the size of Highlands and more often than not gave them a very good game. The economics of today are definitely having an impact on NCC and seeing as how things do not look to be improving in the very near future, I would expect enrollment to continue dropping. Thus this game would more than likely not be real competitive based upon the sheer size of the rosters.

As much as this is another Highlands chest thumping thread, it does bring up a good point. How does Highlands fill their schedule w/out expanding their transportation costs significantly? Highlands just lost another large local school from their schedule. They now only play Ryle on an annual basis. Next level down is Connor, Cooper, and Scott. Next year Connor will be a pretty good team, but they are inconsistent generally. Cooper and Scott both would be far outclassed. They already play CovCath and Holmes. Below that, only NewCath and Beechwood would be worth scheduling. As has been stated, at least 4 out 10 times (and maybe more) these games would be ugly.

 

The intended target is the wrong one. Highlands vitrol should be at the 6A schools that have kicked them off of the schedule. The only options to play local, similarly sized schools would be to schedule GMC and GCL schools. They have Elder, but they may have to add another each year, like Middletown, one of the Lakotas, La Salle, or Anderson. They may have to look more to Louisville or Lexington.

Bishop Bob might be old and retired but he also knows when to protect the integrity and pride of his program and community. The decision yrs ago was based on an isolated incident and I personally thought this game would have been back on by now but with the way Highlands has continued their dominance I am sure Eddie is ok with everyone solely blaming BB for not allowing this game to go forward.

There have been a few NC teams in the last few yrs that could have competed but Highlands would still dominate the series.

I usually try and attend a NC game when the Birds are on bye week and I always come away impressed based on the shear number of kids they have to pick from.

But the reality is, Highlands plays at a different speed and has way too many weapons. JMO.
