I get where you are coming from. Kinda like the CCH/Beechwood game. I would like to see Highlands play the likes of Anderson, Turpin, Columbus Desales.... Teams on their level size wise. Pickup some more Ohio teams that are close by. Or I guess we will have to head to Louisville and get some down there. IDK! I do know NKY is weak for the most part. After those 3/4 teams, it falls off pretty quick.

Dale always wants the HS "Natopnal championship" He should play all GCL schoold every year before district play. If you want to be the big dog beat the big dogs year in and year out. Elder is awful this year and Moeller is rolling. They only reason HHS would want to play NewCath is just to win 9 out of 10 and say haha we are great. The game is pointless for both schools.

Bishop Bob might be old and retired but he also knows when to protect the integrity and pride of his program and community. The decision yrs ago was based on an isolated incident and I personally thought this game would have been back on by now but with the way Highlands has continued their dominance I am sure Eddie is ok with everyone solely blaming BB for not allowing this game to go forward.

There have been a few NC teams in the last few yrs that could have competed but Highlands would still dominate the series.

I usually try and attend a NC game when the Birds are on bye week and I always come away impressed based on the shear number of kids they have to pick from.

But the reality is, Highlands plays at a different speed and has way too many weapons. JMO.

 

The integrity and pride comment is asinine. We're talking about football. How do you affect the integrity and pride of your community based on a win or a loss? That is only affected by how your alumni affect their communities, both positively and negatively. Not playing Highlands this year, next year, in the future...that is not dictated by Mr. Schneider. That is the current staff's decision and their ultimate goal will be to be state champs, not champions of Ft. Thomas.

 

I don't get Highlands fans and their infinity w/ hating other programs coaches. Spritzky gets skinned alive every week by Highlands fans. Mr. Schneider is hated, and he hasn't coached in 2 seasons. Get over it. Everyone knows that you have the best program in NKY.

For HHS -- be willing to play NCC whenever they want to help fill out an increasingly sparse schedule; go into it knowing that 2 yrs. out NCC may decide not to play; for example, in NOV or DEC 2011 have NCC let HHS know if they want to play in 2013; NCC should have "some idea" of if such a game will make sense based on the Frosh & JV squads currently in place; that will also give HHS a reasonable opportunity to fill its schedule

 

For NCC -- decide what makes your program better; cannot argue with what NCC is doing the last few years; if they want to keep that up it is certainly reasonable for them to do so; if, however, they want to play good competition in a non-district environment to improve both the current year's team and the overall program, pick & choose the years where you think the matchup will benefit your team; the #s advantage HHS has over NCC certainly entitles NCC to some benefit to even things out -- in this instance, it is the free right to play only when you think it makes sense for your team rather than every year under a firm contract

Exactly. Schools do this all of the time. Look at how college teams schedule out of conference. Highlands is very smart with this as to when to schedule the top tier Cincy teams, and when to play teams that they will have a good game with. 2003 Highlands doesn't beat St. X, but 2009 Highlands did. It was scheduled at a time when Highlands had the size and skill set to match up on a level playing field with St. X. I like your idea.

You would run the risk of only playing 9 games if you couldn't find a team to fill the "open" slot. But I see that as an idea that could benefit Highlands. For example, Beechwood likely would have been willing to schedule Highlands this year but no way they would want to face Highlands in 2012. Too much turnover in the Beechwood roster this coming year to have Highlands on the schedule in 2012. The same type of thing may be true with NCC. There may be some years like last year where they would want to play Highlands but they probably don't want to lock into a two year contract. As has been stated by mex and others, the smaller schools like NCC don't have enough bodies and depth to compete with Highlands year in and year out. They might have a team with a real chance to beat Highlands 2 of 10 years at most (mex says 4-10 but that is too high IMO). So if Highlands had an open date on their schedule where they would look to fill it with a team that wants to take a shot at them, that may work. Correction, I said that they would beat them/on par 2 out of 10. 4 times out of 10 it would be a 14-21 pt. game and 4 out of 10 blow outs.

Wasn't there, so I don't know. However, he doesn't seem like the kind of coach that would run his mouth during a bball game. He seems like a coach who is only concerned about his team and let's everyone else be.

Liked Coach Eviston's quote in the enquirer. "Brady Hightchew is the best player, by far, in Northern Kentucky." Obviously Mr. Eviston is to busy to get out much on Fiday nights to see what else is out there.

 

I have no dog in the fight here, but I think Brady, if not the best football player in NKY, he is definitely one of the best. I think he is the best all around athlete in NKY. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe he will have started varsity for three years in football, baseball and basketball. What other athlete in NKY can say that?

 

Not really sure about any benefits of a Highlands vs NewCath game. I think it would be good to see but if Highlands won a number of these games wouldn't NCC possibly lose some kids to Highlands? I do think NCC would have given Highlands a game last year. They definitely had the size and talent to play with them.

Looking at it from a comparative standpoint it seems to equate Beechwood and CovCath playing. I do not see a difference in that game and a Highlands/NCC game.
