October 5, 201114 yr I understand what you are saying and it will be interesting to see how it plays out. If you play 6 divisional games and one rivalry conference game, that only leaves one game. You would have six other schools in the opposite division and if you play one for two years, then you are playing most of the opposite schools twice and then not again for 8 years. I think the argument will be "What was the benefit of bringing in Texas A&M if you don't actually get to go there and play?"I would not play one for two years. I would play one for one year then on to the next one. It would rotate as to which game would be home-away. Or, as people have been saying, you can wave bye-bye to annual inter-conference rivalries.

If they played 9 conference games and one OOC rivalry game (Georgia/Tech; UF/FSU; Kentucky/Louisville) that's only ten games. The other two could be against the Easterns, Westerns, and Jacksonville States of the world. The only SEC teams that play a big-time OOC game this year are the ones that don't have an annual rival. Teams like Alabama (Penn State), LSU (Oregon, West Virginia), etc. What it would do is likely kill the potential of second big game for most schools (Florida - no Miami; Kentucky - no Indiana, etc.).
October 5, 201114 yr The league has done its best in the past to preserve cross-division rivalries. If you play a 9-game slate, 6 games are already spoken for (within your division). That leaves 3 other conference games. Moving Auburn to the east would mean the Alabama-Auburn game would be cross-division. Tennessee would almost certainly have to give up their annual game with Alabama (they currently are cross-division rivals and meet annually), something I just can't see happening. And I don't believe the Mississippis and LSU would want to lose their yearly game with Auburn. And one last thing, taking Auburn out of the west would mean no annual game with Texas A&M, meaning a hit on their ability to recruit in that state. I don't believe any involved would want that switch. For what it's worth, these are the current cross-division rivalries: -Alabama/Tennessee -Arkansas/South Carolina -Auburn/Georgia -Florida/LSU -Kentucky/Mississippi State -Mississippi/Vanderbilt It would seem fitting that Missouri and Texas A&M would maintain their current rivalry when they move into the SEC. I'm sure the administration will jump at the opportunity to drop Louisville. And that's a bad thing for all involved, in my opinion. On the other side, if Louisville doesn't go to the Big 12 and the Big East implodes, then Louisville could be considered a mid-major and Kentucky might play them!:sssh: I kid, I kid!

There would be some stink raised, but ultimately I don't believe the legislature would say much. Now they probably would if it were basketball. Can someone older than me shed light on what led to UK/UL playing in football in 1994? Had there been a legislative push or was it something else?

Not all WVU fans are bad folks just like all of ____________ (your choice of school in the blank) are bad fans. FYI - WVU and Va Tech quit playing each other because they went their separate ways due to conference affiliations. Just like Penn State and WVU and just like what will happen when Pitt joins the ACC. Week before last it sure looked like LSU fans wanted to come and watch their team play in Morgantown, and I met a lot of nice LSU fans, and I've met a lot of nice Auburn fans when they were in Morgantown. It's like this just becasuse one person has lied to me, doesn't make everyone a liar. Besides, when was the last time you were in Morgantown GT? Do I need to take you to a game with to let you see it's not my dad's Morgantown any longer. The beating of a man and his pregnant wife sitting in traffic like after the LSU game "happens everywhere"? Bologna. You don't find it odd long time rivals keep walking away from WVU for good? Seriously? Bury your head in the sand much? I was there 3 years ago for the UC game and had to leave work on the sidelines and retreat to the press box because full beer cans and batteries (amongst other things) were being thrown at the UC bench, hence my comment about players not taking their helmets off the entire game for their own safety. Going to a game there is dangerous. Period. End of story...

ND has zero desire to play football in the Big East, and if they did join a conference the B1G and ACC would be way higher on the list...
