They can't afford to lose what Notre Dame brings to the table in basketball, baseball, etc. If you put the pressure on them, the Irish may go to the Big Ten or ACC or somewhere else and if you're the Big East you're left with nothing. A little Notre Dame is better than no Notre Dame in this situation.

The conference will not be together if they lose any more teams. Everything I am hear is the Big East will not be a conference as soon as Mizzu makes its mind up. So if you are not going to have a conference in about 3 months it seems to me like the best thing to do. You have nothing to lose.

The Big East will probably stay together with basketball as the highlight. I just think they will no longer be a football conference. Unless something changes with their independency I'm sure ND will stick along in that conference and therefore will be an attractive team in it. Also, there is a 0.0% chance ND would join the Big East as a football playing member. If ND forgoes their independency tt will be Big 10 or ACC for them.

Because you are only looking at the product on the field. For every person that likes ND, there are just as many or more that dislike that will root against them.

Its always about the money. Notre Dame will sell out any BCS bowl stadium and will draw the best ratings for TV. No one else (besides maybe Texas, although that is a stretch) holds that kind of audience sway. People will watch Notre Dame to root for them and others will watch to root against them. If you run a stadium or television station you win either way. And because of that, the system caters to them.

They have one of their premier programs to lose. But nothing to gain as ND will not under ANY circumstance join the Big East as a football school.

 

$$$, ND has one of, if not the biggest national followings. Plus LONG before today's lucrative TV contracts ND had one with NBC.

ESPN reporting BIG 12 has open the door for TCU to join the conference.

If Missouri doesn't leave, Louisville and Cincy are left in the Big East, and the conference will try and hobble along. WVU will almost certainly be gone, and the conference WILL lose its BCS status. Without TCU and WVU, there's no way to keep it.

 

If Missouri does leave, Louisville is for sure to the Big XII. I believe that Cincy and WVU both are as well.

 

Speculation is that TCU took BYU's spot, that BYU was being a pain and the Big XII broke it off with them. In my opinion, taking all three of the Big East schools is the best idea, as it gives the football schools leaving a majority voting bloc (Pitt, Syracuse, Louisville, Cincy and WVU versus Rutgers, UConn and USF). Don't forget, the Big East football conference and the basketball conference are separate entities for financial reasons-- if the football schools voted to let someone go for football, the basketball schools couldn't stop them. They could hold up other sports, but not football. If I'm wrong on this point, please correct me, but that's how I understand it.

Aren't Pitt and Syracuse going to the ACC? What did I miss? :confused:

That's what I'm saying- if those five schools are leaving, then they make a majority of the Big East football conference and can vote on letting themselves leave as a bloc.

I am hear Texas and Oklahoma want to stop at 10 teams.

 

Plus Mizzu is staying because the SEC doesn't want them. They think they can get a bigger Market team.

 

So UL and UC are back to CUSA.
