Basketball will have 15 to 17 home games compared to 5 or 6 for football, plus, I mean the NCAA Tourney has a multi-Billion dollar contract. You do realize even a place like UK (that has a crazy fanbase, leads the nation in attendance every year, etc., etc.) makes less money on basketball than it does on football, right?

October 4, 201114 yr As a WVU fan, some of you on here have not clue as to how "most" WVU fans are. We are passionate about our school just like you are yours. While Morgantown may not be the best college football town, Starksville is not that appealing either. Just an FYI, WVU was recently named one of the top 100 universities in America academically. Now that Pastilong is out as AD, we have a very respectable AD in Oliver Luck who will continue to look out for what is in the best interest of WVU. Also, President Clements, is also well respected as well. Now that Barney (Bill Stewart) is gone as coach, Dana Holgersen will again take the program to where it was when Rich Rod left. I would personally like to see WVU in the ACC, I think not only can WVU compete there, but also win that conference as well. That would keep the Back Yard Brawl game on a yearly basis and restore a rivalry with Va. Tech. I would like to see us in the SEC as well, while we wouldn't win the conference until our recruiting becomes better, hopefully it would help in that department. I would also love to see us play Bama, just so we could bring Nick home once in a while. Here is the ultimate contradiction from what you start with to the end of the paragraph. Va Tech ran as fast as possible from the rivalry with WVU in large part because of the fan base, and the fact it is simply not safe for opposing fans to go to a game in Morgantown. When was the last time opposing fans ended up in the hospital in Starksville? When did opposing teams have to keep their helmets on at all times during games for protection against objects flying from the stands? The WVU reputation has been very well noted and earned over the years. No one wants to go there to watch their team play. Period...

Who is to say that Texas doesn't bolt in a year or two? Mizzou had the option of staying and risk being left out if Texas left or accept the SEC offer and stability. An overwhelming number of Mizzou fans wanted the SEC. Ultimately, that won out. The Big 12 is still in a tenuous position. They are being held together by one program. If all the rumblings are true, then this could be Pitino's swan song at UL. It is disappointing to see it go, because of the basketball, but the Big East is done. The SEC Network is coming...

If the 6 year media rights deal went down, it would have been suicide to leave before the deal was up. Even if Texas bolted, the league would own their rights for the length of the deal. Mizzou is caving to fan pressure and offering the program up for sacrifice to the sharks. The same people that are caving now are going to be looking for new jobs when they can't compete...
October 5, 201114 yr Author From what I understand there was no real agreement other than spoken word on media deal. The media deal would not do anything to curb the Longhorn Network. What would happen in 6 years? Stability plus money will win out. In addition, the Big 12 by laws are written very very poorly. Mizzou will get out cheap, and into the money. They will be gone officially by December.

Even if it wasn't I'm sure in 6 years the Big 12 would be here again. Schools seem to be taking the slogan "don't mess with Texas" literally. As for the competiting. Was Mizzou really competing anymore than they will be in the SEC?
