I've always thought NC State would be a good target. They seem to be odd man out in the Duke/UNC/WF club.

 

Really? I've always thought of Wake being the odd duck since they seem to have about 12 fans.

I don't see any of the Tobacco Road 4 leaving the ACC.

 

So after the Pac 12's decision where do you think things go from here?

 

Pac-12 - Seems like for now, they are content at 12. From everything I've read it seems like once they met with Texas there were several schools who said no freaking way we are getting in bed with them.

 

Big 12 - Right now it seems that they could be saved, but who knows what the conference will look like. OU wants some concessions made before they are willing to commit to the conference and I'm not sure either the conference or Texas is willing to sacrifice what they want. Besides all of that A&M is out and Mizzou has an offer to leave if they choose. Plus it looks like in order to save it some schools will be added. I'm seeing BYU, Louisville, and WVU as prime candidates for schools to come over. Seems TCU would fit in nicely, but maybe there is stuff there I'm not thinking about.

 

SEC - Everything I read still says A&M is coming so that leaves the SEC at an unattractive 13. Mizzou on the other hand is a lot iffier and could very well stay put. So if that happens, does the SEC stay put for now or go looking for a 14th school? Maybe WVU becomes an option once again or do they look east towards the ACC?

 

ACC - I think the ACC will get to 16 for sure, it's just a matter of who they take. They probably feel UCONN and most likely Rutgers will come if asked but I think Notre Dame is still the #1 target and they aren't acting until that's off the table. Also, there is the crazy Texas to the ACC scenario I wouldn't completely discount.

 

Big Ten - With their focus on academics you'd think they'd want to grab their choice schools before they are gone. But they seem to be quiet in all of this. Are they working behind the scenes or truly just content where they are at.

 

Big East - The wildcard in all of this and probably the conference most likely to blow up. Rumors abound of schools heading to the ACC and Big 12. I think once those conferences decide what they are doing we will have a better picture of the future for them.

 

These are just my thoughts from what I've read the last few days and I claim no insider information whatsoever.

^ True, and I'd rather raid C-USA for schools like Memphis and UCF than bring in service academies, Nova and Temple.

I am hoping that U of L doesn't allow pride to leave them high and dry. That is a legit fear that I have at this point.

So Villanova is going to make the move up to DI football? I know there had been discussions but hadn't heard anything of note.

Louisville is not going to the Big 12. UL will be in a terrible Big East conference.

 

The Big 12 wants TCU, BYU, SMU, and Houston. Makes since for them it fits the travel.

 

I knew UL would get stuck. Everyone talks about what a great job Jurich does, well this is the second time he has failed the university. He has had 2 years to get the Cards on the move. This will be worse than they Kragthrope hire.

^ What makes Louisville desirable to another conference? It's obvious what made Syracuse and Pittsburgh desirable and we're not in that league as a university. As an athletic department, absolutely... but the university as a whole can't compete with Pittsburgh or Syracuse in terms of what the ACC was looking for. Just yesterday UofL president Jim Ramsey talked about the $70 million athletic department budget and its relationship to the $1 billion budget of the university as a whole. That $70 million is a lot but my guess is that the $1 billion isn't all that much compared to the types of universities we're talking about in the Big XII or ACC.

 

As for the Big XII, my impression is that it doesn't know what it wants and that Oklahoma keeps firing off press releases and other statements... probably just to keep taking jabs at Texas. Until they figure out who is in their conference, who the leader is and what direction they're headed in, I don't think it's a situation any more stable than the Big East. But if the Big XII really does start picking apart C-USA, then the Big East absolutely MUST do the same as far as I'm concerned. Temple and 'Nova but not Memphis or UCF makes very little sense to me.

 

If you've seen the breakup of the Big East coming for two years, then your disaster prediction skills are far greater than mine. Even still, if talking about adding service academies is the conference's key to the future, then I agree... it's doomed. Hopefully that was just some information to throw out there until they know what's going on.

I agree Big 12 has to decide what they are going to do first. But no way the Big Least keeps their BCS bid. As for the basketball Conference when they lost Cuse and Pitt and UConn is next, this league is average after those departures.

The breakup of the Big East from a basketball perspective is a tragedy to some. This is simply a money grab, and after all of the conference nonsense settles down, I do think it will pave the way for a college football playoff system, and for that I am grateful.

Those people need glasses because they aren't seeing the big picture.

On that we can definitely agree. They should have been VERY aggressive about expansion as soon as the TCU decision was made. The Pac-10 and Big 10 had already started the pieces moving and the Big East should have been on top of this. Problem is, I still don't think anyone foresaw Pitt and Cuse jumping ship. Maybe they should have; I don't know enough to say. But there definitely should have been more expansion. When basketball went to 17 teams, my first thought wasn't "Wow that's a lot of teams!" but "It would be great if we could get that to 20."

With Mizzou most likely to stay in the Big 12 now, my big question is how long will the SEC remain at 13?

I guess this was an attempt to take a shot at UK fans, but I am not seeing UK fans saying anything about basketball controlling the NCAA?

^ I don't think that's the case. Basketball is king in Kentucky and that includes UofL, WKU and the general mindset of fans across the state. Would I like it better if more consideration was given to basketball when deciding if destroying the Big East was worth doing? Absolutely. We all know basketball doesn't control things, even though many of us (who greatly prefer basketball) wish it did.
