September 18, 201115 yr To be honest, both of these teams are so bad, UK particularly, that I didn't even care, win or lose. I've suffered through some bad teams over the years, but I'm being honest when I see that through three games, the 2011 team is the worst I can recall watching. That in itself would be bad, but considering the progress they'd made in the past few years, it is really frustrating. Kentucky football is back at ground zero. It is a matter of when, not if, with Joker. He hasn't done anything to give hope to the fan base, even going back to his last year or so as the OC. Why not try that no huddle earlier in an attempt to get some rhythm? I said it last year, and its even more prominent this year, but they look more and more like those old UK teams that repeatedly shot themselves in the foot, and didn't play like a team that believed they could win. Rich Brooks, I believe, had turned that corner, but apparently Joker went back around it. The fumble early in the game by King was big...and, of course, the fumble that negates a first down on the next-to-last play. That was vintage UK.

Optimistically, I can see the season shaking out like this to reach 6-6: Wins Marshall Rutgers Syracuse at Connecticut Losses at North Carolina at Cincinnati at West Virginia Pittsburgh at South Florida Still think that's quite a longshot after the first few weeks, but playing increasingly good football over the next two months could get the Cards to bowl eligibility.

Western Kentucky, which lost 14-3 to Kentucky on a neutral field, was beaten 44-16 at home by Indiana State, a Division I-AA team. Central Michigan, which fell 27-13 to Kentucky, was bombed 44-14 by Western Michigan. And ... the Wildcats gave up 24 points to Louisville, which had scored 17 against Florida International and 21 against Murray State, another I-AA team. I would like to see Mike Leach's phone records this week.

September 19, 201115 yr Time after time after time we have 3rd and 7 or 8. Our receivers come out of the huddle and run 5 yards, catch the ball and get dropped 2 yards short of the first down. Does anyone not teach these receivers to find the first down marker on their routes? And please do not tell me the QB does not have time to wait for the receivers to run 2 to 3 more yards. Watch the really good teams. The receivers KNOW where the marker is!

September 19, 201115 yr I have never been more pleased not to have watched one second of this game. If the score is any reflection, both of these teams are in the lower 20% of college football teams.

September 19, 201115 yr I've watched the game twice, now. Maybe I'm naive, but my observations are as follows ... The UK offense is still adjusting to a new scheme. I expect the early games to be rough. I just hope it doesn't take the entire season to work the kinks out. Injuries on the UK line and the replacements having to deal with Charlie Strong's psycho blitz schemes can drive any line coach nuts. UK not having a definite "go to" receiver, hampers that, too, though Fields proved he may be the guy. I'm not ready to throw the towel in, just yet. Of course I tend to be optimistic, regardless of record, and intend on giving Joker the benefit of the doubt longer than most.

After all this offense is woeful because every single playmaker from last year's squad is gone--Cobb, Locke, Hartline, Matthews. You can't lose that kind of firepower without struggling in the early part of the following season--perhaps even the whole season. So I give Joker a pass on that. There are other issues where there needs to be improvement from the coaching standpoint...namely playcalling. But overall, this is the team I expected to have (unfortunately). The bigger issue, at least when speaking of Joker, is that I believe last year's team could have done much better. Specifically, I'm looking at the Ole Miss game on the road, Tennessee at home & the bowl game vs. Pittsburgh. Losing all three of those was a difficult pill to swallow. The victory over South Carolina & taking national champ Auburn to the very end showed that we should have been better than 6-7.
