I said after covering the Highlands-Boyle Co game that NOBODY else on their schedule would come within 3 td's of them. Their offense is something else. PT is one heck of a QB, and IMO, best in the state. (No disrespect to Trinity's Wright)

 

Highlands will cruise to #21 this year as long as they stay healthy...they are in the middle of one heck of a run.

Agree.

I agree.......but I think the onus is on the Mason County AD and head coach for scheduling this game.............Why play Highlands if you are Mason County?

 

 

And on the flip side, why would Highlands schedule this game? Maybe there is a good explanation but I would think Highlands would try to play a tougher out of district opponent.

Someone had said Mason was thought to be pretty good this year after their 9-1 season last year.

My guess is that Coach Buchanan scheduled Highlands thinking it would improve his team for the playoffs. Some kids buckle and quit when they get beat bad; other kids look themselves in the mirror and realize they have to do what it takes to improve. I'm quite certain MC's coach feels his kids fall in the latter category. Sometimes a good old fashioned tail whipping can be a good thing.

 

I saw some things I liked on MC's team. Obviously No.10 is an athlete and player. No. 14 plays with intensity. No. 32 looked like he has a lot of speed and talent when he was returning kicks. No. 9 looked good when he played QB (he's a frosh, correct?). Nice composure and arm. No. 21 played well and displayed leadership.

 

MC will not play anyone in the playoffs as good as Highlands. If the MC players respond to this game like I think they will, they could make a nice run in the playoffs. There's work to be done no doubt, but it can be done.

 

Folks from MC were extremely nice, pleasant and welcoming. Great facilities. Enjoyed getting to meet and talk with Dan Waddle before the game. Nice fellow.

Thank you and you are correct in why we scheduled Highlands- not just for the playoffs but to make us better as a team and program for the long haul. We did not play well and that starts with me, the head coach. When I say that, I am not taking anything away from the Blue Birds. They are a GREAT team and one of the best I have seen- ever.

 

Even after the game, our staff was glad we had taken on the challenge and thought we could use alot from that game to improve. I still believe we have great kids and coaches and that we will fight through this and be better.

Mason County fans were all very gracious before and after the game. Very classy in a tough defeat. The short field due to the fumbles and the depth of HHS really put them in a disadvantage.

The names looked good, but it hasn't worked out that way.

 

-Boyle will be better later, but they were in a little deep for opening night.

-Dixie Heights has one player and no defense

-Western wasn't ready for that level

-Mason County lost a ton from last year and then their best player gets hurt

 

What initially looked like four good primers to prepare for Covington Catholic have left most everyone knowing that Highlands is really good, but also that they haven't had too many challenges yet, which is completely not their fault.

Coaching staffs have friends in common & when the game was scheduled MC had Harris. The way the MC offense runs he would've made a difference. Also, I'm sure MC wanted Harris to be able to showcase his skills v. Highlands.

Dale says he can play in the NFL someday. Strong praise.

 

One of the coaches I coach with went to the game. He said he wants Towles to start next year at UK. He came away really, really impressed with his savvy, arm strength, and overall ability.

I just feel bad for kids when they get embarrassed like this, thats all. It is a game and is all about the kids. I just feel for them thats all. Congrats to the Birds on another win.

First of all, nobody wants to play HHS in KY so when a school agrees to play the birds jump at the chance.

 

Secondly, the 2 coaching staffs have friends in common.

 

Finally, when the game was scheduled MC had a healthy Josh Harris and he would've made a difference in the final score.

Coach, will Mason County schedule lighter next season outside of district play? Maybe some good competitive Class A schools to take the place of Highlands and Rowan and Lafayette. Our 2012 schedule is identical to this season but flipping Home and Away. My preference would be to continue to play Highlands in 2013 and beyond as long as we can both work out a date and they want to continue to play us. Of course, we need to start winning some games for me to continue to be the coach- that is the reality of coaching. In the past 16 years, we have accomplished everything except play in the finals and win it. We think this game pushes us to improve our team and program, and our players individually in the matchups from this game as well as motivation for the offseason.

 

On the other hand, we are not too good to play anybody. There are alot of good programs around us and all of them are improving. They would all be good on our schedule, and some of them are already on our schedule.
