Pretty much what ol' papa expected. Highlands did whatever they wanted. Gold standard team and great fan support.

 

On a side note, mcmama - who ALWAYS looks for negatives associated with the other team whenever another team beats Mason County in basketball or football (don't get her started on a couple of schools that shall remain nameless) - had nothing but positives for HHS after the game. This is about as near an exact quote as I can remember - their fans were great, their team was great, they didn't really run up the score even though you wouldn't know it from the scoreboard.

I don't think we can sell CCH short yet. Boyle and CCH would be a battle.

 

I agree, looking for the game between the Birds and CCH to be better than some may be thinking. The only thing that would worry me is the CCH defense, I don't have much doubt that they will be able to put points on the board.

Certain schools put 70 and they get a pass on here, others get bashed. Truth of the matter is sometimes you cant help but to score alot of points.

 

Highlands had short fields the entire 1st half. Mason County's QB was having a difficult time with the snap from center the whole 1st half.

Some of these games might be more entertaining if the JV played the other team's varsity. NDA soccer team did it a couple years ago.

Ouch. They will out up 100 on Pendleton Co. And for all people who said "Dale wouldn't do that" 71 tonight is close enough and proves he sure would.

 

Doesn't sound like Highlands was trying to run up the score, but sometimes its hard not to? After watching Brossart hang 41 on Pendleton tonight; it may be hard for Highlands or CCH not to come close to the century mark??

I can't accuse the Birds of running it up; they had their subs in exclusively during the second half and a running clock pretty much all that time. You can't tell your subs to just go through the motions; it may be a cliche but that's how folks get hurt.

Agreed. My philosophy is starters should get to play half the game, they deserve it, and you have to let them play. You have to let all the players play. I agree with Bobby Bowden: "Holtz immediately recounted the 1970 meeting between his first-year William & Mary team and Bowden's West Virginia squad.

 

"Unfortunately, we had more Marys than Williams," cracked Holtz, whose squad absorbed a 43-7 loss. "When we met at midfield, I said, 'You're my friend, how could you run the score up?' Bobby looked at me and said, 'If you want to hold the score down, that's your obligation. If you want to make it a competitive game, coach harder, recruit better, but don't count on me.' ..."

 

It's the other teams job to keep you from scoring. (In the 8th grade my son's basketball team beat another 8th grade team 98-0. The subs played more than the starters, but you got to let them play.)
