"If everything falls right"...what does that mean, exactly? When Trinity runs the table and finishes the season undefeated, will they have enough to win a MNC on their own merits...absolutely not. Their schedule isn't tough enough and they don't come from a power state, plain and simple.

 

Now, if Trinity does all that and teams like DBP, Prattville, DLS, STA, ST. X (OH) all lose, then they might have a shot. But on their own merits with no help = no way in hades.

"If Everything falls right"...that was the key phrase. If every team in the country loses a game and Trinity is the only one to go undefeated then yes, they would be MNC. Anyone could guess that.

 

However, I think what theguru was really getting at was if Trinity goes undefeated and absolutely plows through their opponents, is there a chance they win a MNC REGARDLESS of what everyone else in the country does? That's the only question that matters and I say, even if they do that, it won't be enough.

 

HOWEVER, if they do that, it will put them in a position in 2012 where they will start the year in the top 5 nationally and depending on what Trinity's schedule looks like, could very well be in line for a national title. It's a two year process to a MNC and it begins next week.

He has no choice. i am not saying that we are always the end all / be all.....but in 2002 we waxed Ohio's best team. If that happens again this year, AND we run the table....I really don't care what CardsFan says...

This isn't an Ohio vs. KY thing at all. You've got me all wrong. This is a Trinity vs. Don Bosco Prep, Warren Central, Prattville, St. Thomas Aquinas, DeLaSalle, Allen thing.

 

Your last statement is untrue. I firmly believe that Trinity is as good as anything Ohio has to offer this year as I sit here on August 15th. Obviously this is a very special class at Trinity and they deserve all the national attention they are getting. Truly.

 

That being said, if any of those above-mentioned teams goes undefeated and wins their respective state titles, they will, and should, be ranked ahead of Trinity.

I'm not sure they have a great shot even if they go undefeated. As we all know with most polls like that, the big name gets the pub. The teams above them ARE the big name schools. More than likely at least 1 of them will be undefeated. I'd love to see Trinity as National Champs, but I doubt it happens.

I am not understanding what CardinalsFan said that is so demeaning. He was just reiterating the fact that unless Trinity comes out and demolishes everyone, the chances of them hopping over other undefeated teams from across the country - with bigger reputations - is slim. I would say that is pretty accurate.

They will have the same disadvantage as teams in the BCS polls who start the season ranked 22nd and go undefeated with 3 huge wins only to find themselves outside looking in b/c of their conference. For Trinity to go undefeated, they would have defeated the top 3 teams in the GCL, Louisville St. X (probably twice), and about 3 other teams that would be good to solid wins for any team in the various Top 25 polls. If they do that, then NEXT season will they have enough momentum to catapult a lot of teams and START the year ranked in the Top 5, where anything is possible. Huge compliment to Trinity to even be able to discuss this.

If Highlands can make it to the top 5 or where ever they ended up a couple of years ago playing the schedule they did that year, then Trinity can win a title. I am not knocking that Highlands team as I have said since before that season even began that I think that is the best team in Highlands history. But if we are comparing that Highlands schedule with this year's Trinity schedule, it isn't close. Didn't Highlands finish in the top 5 in a poll that year?

A high school national championship has to be a joke, who votes for it when the season is over?

 

There is no way the voters can see all the games/teams to give a fair vote.

 

How is a pre season top 25 determined?

 

You surly cannot compare scores with each other.

 

Look at the area of the nation, does a one loss Texas team still better than an undefeated team from Georgia?

 

A team beats # 1 rated Prattville, now does that team which wasn't even thought of go to the top ten?

AL, you are correct. A high school national championship is a joke.

CF is 100% correct. If the top 2 or 3 teams run the table T is not going to be national champs. Fairly or unfairly.

Three things w/ that. 1. The St. X game was nationally televised and really pushed Highlands a lot of spots in one week. 2. A lot of top teams lost and Highlands was able to move up w/ each. Trinity starts outside of the USA TODAY Top 25, and Highlands started in it. It's harder to jump spots as other teams stay undefeated. The thing that Trinity has going for it is reputation and a schedule w/ nationally prominent teams.

It may be a joke but when I was working in Batesville last year and South Panola won it in almost every major publication,the people sure didn't seem to care. That said though I'd like to see trinity or x play s. Panola.
