I was floored today when approached by Mr. Madrick about this decision. Sad day for Covington Students and Staff. Mr. Madrick's presence will be missed greatly throughout NKY Venues. Thank you for what you have done for the Covington School System and NKY. Wishing him nothing but the best of health and happiness with his family!

 

 

COVINGTON, Ky. -- Ron Madrick, athletic director at Covington Holmes High School since 1993, resigned Monday because of health reasons, the school announced.

 

No replacement has been named.

 

Madrick, who was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference Hall of Fame last year, coached high school football, leading DeSales to a 4A state runnerup finish in 1981, and joined the University of Louisville staff in 1983. He is a member of the Jefferson County Football Coaches Hall of Fame (2005) and the recipient of the Mt. Carmel Man in the Arena Award (2006).

He should be in every hall of fame. He's the model for athletic directors. He'll be missed in the community more than he'll be missed as the AD.

Terrible news all around...best wishes to Mr. Madrick.

As CovCathiRadio said, a model for HS AD's to follow! Going to be strange attending a Holmes or Ninth Region Sporting event and not see Mr. Madrick around!

Sorry to hear about this and hopefully it is nothing too serious. Who are the potential candidates to replace Mr. Madrick?

You don't "replace" someone like Coach Madrick.

What a class act! I'm very happy for him. He will be missed by all local schools. Nice article in the Enquirer today about his decision. They are always my second source of information after BGP. Skinny did a great write up about Ron.

Hope this guy is okay, Holmes has been on the rise in all sports lately, big loss for them.

I really didn't know Ron very well but he always made a point to come up to me at games and tap me on the shoulder with a smile on his face and an approving nod. He always made me feel welcome at Holmes and the BOK. I have a whole lot of appreciation for this guy. Best of luck to him for sure.

Could be, then again wouldn't surprise me if Stan Steidel gets the gig.

I've known Coach Madrick since I was in the 7th grade, which would have been right around 11 years ago. He was always a great guy and someone you could go to for help or advice.

 

I can still remember helping him with the move from Latonia to Richwood and how grateful he was. He appreciated the little things and made sure you knew.

 

He will be missed not only by the Holmes community but also NKY athletics in general. The man always treated everyone with respect and had a smile on his face. I wish nothing but the best for him and his wife.
